I read it.  Yeah, it was pretty funny with the SWG reference.

I wouldn't say the reporter was biased in the writing.  More of not knowing a d**n thing with the history of SWG.  So if he wanted info of SWG, he probably went with the official people.  And well... that should be spun positively by them for their "product."

A few minutes interview with a PR flack and viola, 'In Depth Reporting' at it's best.

Someone should point the author in the dirction of the missing Jimmy Hoffa corpse and JFK assasination, I bet with his crack reporting skills he'd have both crimes solved within a week.........

Atleast it's a non-biased review, atleast, a break from all the whiners.
  • WarmakerWarmaker Member UncommonPosts: 2,246
What, a break from us whiners and into Fantasy Island?

Sweet Mother of Meat!  They gave us the CU and NGE!... and actually drove players away by the freighter-load!

Quite truthfully, there weren't all that many people playing SWG pre CU/NGE..which is why they made these drastic changes.  True, the remaining faithful were driven away by them..but SOE felt it was worth the risk... because there was little to lose at that point.

LOL if they call systematically destroying their game "tweaking"?! I'd hate to see what they'd call major changes!! To be totally honest IMO all SOE had do to with SWG was fix the known issues with the game and add some content and I'd still be playing, and so would a lot of the old vets.

Aye just a clueless reporter tbh but lets be fair when a big media corcoration starts reporting on MMO's something must be going right.

I expected better reporting from the BBC. This is quite a let down.

That artlicle read like an advertisment for SWG.

Ya star wars galaxies is taking on WoW.  I wonder how that is going for them?

SOE didn't have the manual to make MMO's and that is why swg sucked? Oh well then I forgive them.

Hey fellow cabal members are you ready to return and play swg now.  They didn't have the manual the first go around.  Apparently they just found one.  Its time to go back.  Esh.  My bad fellower swg/ngers.  I am now in your ranks.  SWG pwnzerz.

Funny thing is this game was more popular when it wasn't trying to be like another game. Rather, it had more subscriptions when it was trying to be it's own game.

You at least google the damn thing to get some backstory. He just wrote it off press releases and talking to PR reps. That wasn't a news article, it was a reacharound.

"Galaxies was one of the first MMOs," said Mr Neri. "There was no handbook on how to do these things."

Well at least they finally finished writing their handbook on how NOT to do these things....lol

muahaha they tweaked the game out of competition, SOE ban made me go to WoW and after being UNprema-banned I played the tweaks and like hundred  of thousands of you - quit .

Now Its LOTRO.  SOE is not longer in competition .  SOE's only hope to obtain MMO glory once again is the DC Universe MMO but a Belfry full of Batmans does not sound like my idea of fun.

One of the first? Oh, so you mean that Ultima Online, Everquest, Anarchy Online, Meridian 59, and Dark Age of Camelot all being released before SWG still makes SWG one of the first MMOs? When I first heard about SWG in development, it was labeled a second generation title. How can you be a second generation title and be one of the first MMOs? That seems like a huge contradiction to me. I do have to say, after reading this, I lost a bit of respect for the BBC. As mentioned, it's like he did zero research before writing this. All he did was play lapdog to PR people.

That’s not unbiased, that just uninformed, or, wasn’t pertinent to the article.

Not every article needs a whole section devoted to the "Horrors" of SWG.

From what I have read of BBC coverage of MMORPGs, the guy writing all these articles thinks because he started with WoW, there was nothing previous to that which was any good.

I am sure many four letter words could be created for a response to that.

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

Pre-combat upgrade two statements about SWG

    1) Fastest selling MMO to up to that time period.

    2) Second largest MMO in north america.

People left because the game didn't work.  Making drastic changes to a broken game so that it is a different broken game doesn't change much.  if they had just fixed the game it would have rebounded.
