I would pay 40 Bucks a month for WoW, Or LOTRO , or Hell even DDO & get more of my moneys worth on any of those individual games than I would from SOE entire Library for $9.99 a month!

Can you name an MMO that SoE has cancelled?

    EQ still going

    EQ2 still going

    MXO still going

Milking failing games is not the same as a successful game.  EQ is mostly comprised of old timers not willing to leave.  Most MMOs have those.  EQ2 is a modest offering with some decent content but hardly a breakthrough success.

The rest are disasters waiting to die.  SOE will milk them for every cent they can get.  Business-wise, makes sense if you can't seem to put a title together that appeals to a broad audience.

The DC comics game will also be a bust.  Why?  because SOE can NOT make games that appeal to broad markets.  They have a mnetallity of "hate the player" in all shapes and forms.  They started this in EQ and have continued it until now.  Yes, they get people who do community stuff that seem to really care about the game and players but they are peons.  The execs and Smed run the show and they are morons.  As long as they are in charge, no SOE game will ever be more than a modest hit.  No breath-out games, nothing to succeed on the level of WoW or some of the games coming out soon-ish.

I concur.... Mooo!!! milk those games while others grab gigantic market shares and crap all over their perpetually failing MMO department... I'm sure SoE milks their investments like every other sound business does.   They also improve and reinvest.  I'm not really sure what some of you are getting at other than you got a beef with the company and can't get over it.  The Community Managers are not peons in the company.  They are very involved with the game and act as liasons between the players and the devs.  Look at EQ2.  Lots of what people are wanting get put into the game.  Some don't but it's not like they can make everyone happy.  I think EQ2 is a solid game.

I think SoE is a solid company.  They are still the one of the best in the business.  I love how WoW has become the new benchmark for MMO success.  Which other MMO even comes close?  Basically, I see that SoE provides a good life for their employees and constantly develop new titles.  How is that failing?  They will be around for a while I imagine.  So will Smed.

    Well said.

And to add to it.  If SoE wasn't making money off thier games they wouldn't continue to pay people to work on them.

It's a real simple concept.  If you don't make money on something, you don't have money to support it.

Do some of you people use lighter fluid to get your torches lit or do they light up easily enough without it?

MMORPG is a mmo-neutral board; so you won't find censored content such as on an affiliate site where the mods will delete anything detrimental to the game. People need to hear the negative side of things, to make informed decisions, and if there is a huge uproar of negativity, then maybe, just maybe the wrath is warranted.

We understand that you are upset that your life, Vanguard, is being attacked for being an incomplete piece of software; which it is, there is no denying that fact. The game may indeed be prettier than launch, but if the bicycle gets a new coat of paint and set of tyres, and there is no seat, you still will have an incredibly uncomfortable ride.

As for your comment on another thread about how happy you were in buying a new machine just to play Vanguard? That is a load of crap. Noone should need to buy a new rig, just to play a game, especially a collapsing one such as Vanguard.

Oh, and before you start whining about Vanguard-Haters and such, I have attempted to enjoy Vanguard, but sparse content, lack of support and my god the netcode.....

They should have let the game die and taken the tax writeoff.

People might complain, but Smedley, and SOE, has managed to convince hundreds of thousands of people to pay $29.99 a month using that strategy.  There are business owners who would sell their souls to generate revenues like that using old "washed up" products.  (Maybe SOE already has???)

    - How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?

    - I don't know, but some people without brains do an awful lot of talking, don't they?

Er, no. This forum may be for a particular game, but it's on a free public website that isn't limited to subscribers of that game.

If we were talking about official forums that only active players could post on, that would be a different story, but as long as anyone can join this site, and as long as anyone can comment in the forum of their choice, regardless of what game they play, then this place will be agnostic about Vanguard, and every other game on the site.

I disagree with that.  I'm not saying it's a forum dedicated to only subscribers, but it is a forum dedicated to a specific game.  Kind of loses it's nuetral factor to me; seeing as people that post here have some vested interest in the game itself, whether they love it or hate it.

The general forum however is nuetral as it's not dedicated to any specif game, but MMO's in general.

I'll consider it a nuetral forum here when everyone starts posting about how they neither liked nor disliked VG.

    It's a forum about Vangaurd.

Good, bad, and all points in between dealing with Vanguard.

If you're looking strictly to only hear people singing the games praises, I would highly suggest starting ones own forum where anyone that has a gripe can just be banned by oneself, as they seem to enjoy doing that anyway.

I like the forums here the way they are for the most part.  Be pretty boring around here if we all agreed on everything.

The game engenders a lot of hate... It's just that bad.  Even the people playing it are really only in it waiting for something better.

I have to agree, I do enjoy Vanguard, but it feels horribly unfinished still, the latest patch is still changing things like rare spawn rates and complication rates for crafting, things that ought to have been sorted out well before release.   Sony Online have burnt all their goodwill with me a long time ago, having stopped playing SW:G due to the "NGE" invalidating my character choices (MBioEng/MCH!) then in EQII server mergers killing off my preferred names - casual gamers lost out huge on the server mergers, and of course with unique naming I went to that server in the first place to get the names I wanted.  So if they hit three strikes by not continually improving Vanguard to fulfill its potential, for me it will be time to adopt my friends' mantra - never play any game from SOE, because even if it's good now it won't last.

If Blizzard bought the rights to Ultima Online from Mythic, and made a true Ultima Online II (i.e. WoW with player placed housing, bard provoking, skills rather than classes, and more involved crafting) it would certainly be bye bye Vanguard for me.  I can hope.  Until then, yes Vanguard has the closest thing to UO cotton fields, so I will play that ... for now.

SOE is not the ones who messed up VG Flute, just as they were not all responsible for the mistakes in SWG.

If Blizzard ever bought Ultima Online, I would throw up and feel very sick due to what they would do to the game. The simple fact is that UO is doing just fine and does not need to be bought or touched by another company. Blizzard fired most of their original awesome employees if ya did not know.

Blizzard is just as guilty at milking games as SOE is, if not worse. Promising a great expansion and not delivering for two years. When said expansion does come its a joke. When a small group makes a fake B.NET so that people can play D2 mods on it they sue them. They don't fix dupes and hacks in D2. They don't fix hacks in WC3 or Starcraft. They live off the name of their old games yet they get rid of most the guys who made the old games. They still charge 40 bucks for Diablo set, they still charge 40 bucks for WC3 set. The gold botter community in WoW is terrible to everyone yet they are not stopped. The support in WoW and the horrible Servers kill a ton of peoples fun but it still happens every day.

Everyone is gonna point to SOE and say they are jerks etc. You and many other people need to start realizing that a ton of game companies have screwed people numerous times. The only difference is that the SWG community cried louder and harder than everyone else. The also little know fact is that the SWG people won't stop going on about it after years and years, others just go on.

Seriously people, if you think SOE is the only bad company then let me know how you create your little fantasy worlds, i want one that has trees that grow cherry cheese cake.

Be cool to people, and try and stay cool that way you never have to regret making someone feel bad. Don't take what ya got granted because some people never get to feel happy. We get to play these great MMOs and surf a good site. Be thankful for what ya got and next time ya feel down imagine a fat sea otter waddling with a pillow and a night cap. Bam! smiles!

Some people are anti-SOE. That is their right and they are justified in having that opinion and posting in VG's forum since they probably are going to be bought by SOE.

Do I personally think that SOE is the only company that is a money hungry non-caring bunch of suits out to get the next penny to squeeze? No I don't. I think SOE simply is far more obvious about it than others and their inability to top their success of EQI has made them worse. People keep screaming that they want a game this way and SOE releases it that way and then they add "EZ mode and /Pizza" to make everyone happy. Then they seem confused why it didn't work. Brad and SIgil seem even more dilusional than SOE but obviously went to the same PR school and game creation school.

I can appreciate the "Lets all be happy little otters" and listnen to some Sonny and Cher and pull out the tie-dies and hug our brother but be ready for some protesters in your hippy love world. SWG, EQI and II, Matrix, and VG ticked off a lot of people. Some were SOE's fault and some were failures that got dumped in SOE's lap and they didn't do anything with them. Either way, no amount of positive "spin" will help. SOE needs a big success right out the gate. Gods and Heroes or DC Heroes or something just needs to be good and polished and complete. That would go along way towards helping with their image.

In SOE's defense I swore that Turbine we're the shortbus of the MMORPG community. AC2 stunk so bad that it got canceled before it's aging brother and D&D was a huge IP that they didn't do very well with. I didn't think they had a clue till I tried LoTRs this weekend. Anyone can change their reputation but SOE and Sigil need someone besides Smed and McQuaid to speak if they want to change there rep with the community. All of the PR stuff is moot until you get a working game out that is enjoyable. EQII is finally getting there 2 years after release which isn't what I would call timely and VG is obviously far from perfect as well.
