Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, or Other

XiacbXiacb Member Posts: 51
Everquest 2 looks pretty tempting and I am going to try out the trial tomorrow. I played the first EQ when it first came out and was on there for a while. I got up to a level 65 druid, made a lot of friends and had tons of fun, but I can't play that anymore because it would be impossible to get up to 75 soloing since I wouldn't be able to group.

World of Warcraft I played for about a month and got up to level 38, but it doesn't seem like there's a lot of end game content (ex. raids, and other cool stuff to do you can't do while a lower level)

Finally I'm considering a new game that I have not heard of that you will tell me about.

       Thanks,

If you want a very challenging PvE mmo i would play FFXI because of how difficult it is. But for PvP, DAoC or EQ2  otherwise I personally would wait for a new one to come out such as Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall, or Pirates of the Burning Sea, etc.

It is not worth playing WoW because of how easy and simple minded and repetitive where as EQ2 has a couple of overpowered PvP classes.

What is the estimated released on these new games?

Also, when was FFXI released and are a bunch of people still playing?

I'd recommend trying out also Saga of Ryzom, it's maybe not as good as WoW and EQ 2, but it's diffirent and you might find it fun.

And as WoW player I must disagree about there not being end game content. There are raid instances, heroic instances, lot of quests, reputation grinds to get items, crafting if you have crafting profession, arena ladder for only lvl 70 people, battlegrounds from earlier levels are still accessible, etc.

And the end game is not so easy either, in arena ladder you have to compete against real humans and be better than them, and the raid instances are designed so that usually very few or none have been able to complete all instances at any time. They keep adding new ones as people progress in old ones.

Ya, I never experience World of Warcraft end game content first hand. I just saw how my levle 70 guild mates would just be Pvping   to get armor and complaining how it was boring.

I played FF XI a little and I can tell you there are still ppl to party with..  after 30 minuted of playtime I already was in a Linkshell..  the community in FF is really nice.

Right now I'm playing trial of EQ2 for.. 5th time ^^''  I REALLY have to but this game.. I'm in love with fae... ^^'''

Why worry about endgame?  For me thats then end of the game and I move on.  I find raiding to be the most repepative waste of time myself.  Others may love it and thats okay too.   As for WoW being repetative and EQ2 not thats kind of silly.  EQ2 and all MMOs are very repetative.  As long as you are having fun that is whats important.  If you are having fun leveling quickly through lots of quests or having fun leveling slowly through very monotonous repepative content as long as your are enjoying it thats what is important.  Everyone has their own thing.

They are both awesome, I find that starting New though, It is easier since WoW has more NEW players than EQ2.

So basically more people to play with at the same level in WoW then there will be in EQ2, Although I did think EQ2 was a better game...just grouping was tough.

I don't see what the big stink is over EverQuest 2.

-The PvP is very broken. Some classes melt faces while others can hardly stub your toes, they have level caps on who can fight who so don't expect your faction to really protect you.

-There are like 20 different graphics for armor, and all are recycled. For instance, Paladins and Warriors wear identical armor. Sorry, that's just unimmersive.

That among a bunch of other things, like the linear gameplay really turns EQ2 sour for me.

Everquest 2 was released as PvE only game so the classes aren't made for PVP, they put up pvp servers because people asked for them, as far as I know they've never bothered really tryin to balance them for pvp.

I agree on the armor bit but atleast they're working on it, personally i never really cared as long as my armor was good.   Im not sure what you mean by linear gameplay in EQ2 I never really experienced anything linear unless all you did were the straight forward average quests.    I mean you had your everday quests, your guild/city quests, heritage quests, armor quests, faction betrayal quest, class quests.  Lore quests, crafting quests, exploring quests.  I mean you can kinda go in whatever direction you want.   The higher level you get the more areas you can choose from to go and explore and play in.

Unlike the absolute linearness of WoW where everyone pretty much fights over the same areas and gear all the time.

First of all There is no "big stink" about eq2   if there was that would mean alot of people DONT like it  not the other way around.

second on armor Other than raid gear you generally never see a pally and warrior wearing different armor anywhere because usually the pally and warrior are both trying to tank as best as possible and that means going for the same stats which would be on the same gear.

The end game gear in Eq2 definitely looks different for each class.

About eq2 pvp   it is a pve game first so they don't care about balance.

The thing alot of people like about eq2 is just how smooth it runs and how good it looks.

To me games sometimes just don't feel right.  It doesn't matter to me if the game is popular or not.  In WoW everything seems to fit together well.  I don't go in for discussing hard vs easy, cartoon vs real, and PvP.  If the game is fun for you you will know it right away when you play it.  There are many games right now like LOTRO and EQ2 that just feel wrong to me.  It's like they forgot to put the fun in the game even though everything is nice and polished.  As I said though it's differnt for everyone as people like differnt things.

Why can't more people be as objective as you? Seriously so many people forget that not everyone thinks or plays the way they do and some are just irrational but *shrug* you right to each their own.

I can't say I hate WoW i just got...i just got bored and i didnt like the idea that when i did reach endgame i'd be stuck to grinding and raiding.

im on a seriously bad typo trip day

Hehe I don't worry about endgame.  I just play the game and if it's fun I continue to play.  Generally when I get to the point of raiding I'm not having fun so I stop and either look for a new game or spend my time doing something else until a new game comes along where I find I'm having fun.  :D

I Actually just started playing eq2, after 6 years of DAoC i just needed something diffrent. I enjoy it. the community is great, the graphics are well done, and the gameplay is solid.Plus they update consistantly. and contrary to popular belife there are plenty of people to group with even at the lower levels. I was worried about that myself. just pick a more populated server. I can't say anything about the pvp though.  a bit burned out on it so choose to go the pve/rp route

I agree but when I hear about how this is unbalanced and etc it does make me dislike the game more, I was enjoying wow and it fit together it felt right but after a while the community got to me and I was finding pvp pretty dumb and not only because of the forums, but the forums can make you change your mind if you are not careful best to stay away from the wow forums.

I actually agree with this 100%. Although there isn't anything really terrible about EQ2, from the first moment I logged on I felt disappointed and the game didn't 'feel right'.

I dunno, maybe it was the interface, the graphics or whatever but it just didn't click for me. WoW did, however, everything came together nice and it was easy to be immersed in the game, the grinding just got to me eventually.

I'm going to start calling that feeling that you get if the game feels right or wrong the 'home factor'.
