Anyone still get charged after cancelation?

First off, I bought Vanguard at its release date and after reading reviews, I decided not to open it and return it sometime next week. Well, I got lazy and bored one week so I just said what the heck and opened it, checked out the CDs, map, manuel, but never installed the game using the CDs and never used the CD-key. Now its just been standing on my bookshelf collecting dust over the months till recently I've decided I want to give it a look again since I am currently playing nothing at the moment and I have a lot of free time.

Anyways, I've heard that a lot of people have had trouble canceling whether it was just Vanguard or all SOE games I forget but I read that even after cancellation, they were still being charged and when calling into SOE support, all they say is that it must've been a mistake on the customers part. This makes me kind of nervous and I've heard people have had to reject the payment straight to their credit card company because they would not stop charging them the monthly payment after canceling. So just wondering if there is any truth to these statements?

Subscribe to VG only and cancel right away?  If you have a CE, use your buddy key instead.

I don't have the CE, just the regular retail box but it still came with a 10 day key.

I didn't really get your reply, so are the rumors true that they charge you even after canceling your subscription?

Charges after cancellation have happened to some people; there's been a few posts on these forums as you already know. I don't think the problem is anything close to a systemic issue though. I've never had any issues with canceling. If you're nervous about it, just remember not to take the "Thank you for your patronage" confirmation after cancellation as an absolute, go back to the billing model screen and make sure your account is flagged as cancelled/inactive.

I ran into an issue when I cancelled my EQ2 account a couple years back.  Bottom line was it was I that screwed up by not completing the cancellation process all the way and I got billed when the time came due.  When I went back the second time, I jumped through all the hoops including filling out the exit survey and I got a confirmation that the process was complete.  If memory serves me correctly, I received an email confirmation of my cancellation.  Someone may have a different story to tell, but in my case it was OE (operator error) on my part, although the process could be streamlined and clarified better IMO.

Hmm.. I just recently canceled my EQ account and didn't get any confirmation email. From what I can tell, I did everything to cancel the account and it even lists the status as a canceled account and that I have until May 27 but it also says next billing date is on the 27th. When I click on 'edit subscription' it just asks which method of payment I want to use so I assume my credit card is off my record now.

Is there any more that I need to do? What is this exit survey you're talking about? Is it only for EQ2 subscribers?

I ran into this same issue when I wanted to cancel and Sony CS was no help at all. If you are using an old station account (In my case I played EQ for years and used the same account for Vanguard) you must add a secret question to your account in order for online cancelation to work.

I don't remember the steps exactly, but log into sony station and edit your account to add the secret question. When you cancel online after the secret question is added, you'll recieve an email confirming your cancelation and your billing date will say something like non-recurring or canceled instead of a date.

I've been using the same station account ever since 2000 when I started EQ. Which includes SWG, EQ2, couple months of Planetside, They had my CC# when I tried MXO, and they had it for my first 30 days of VG.

I have not once had any issue with SOE overcharging, or not canceling my account, or charging me after I canceled, or anything. Perhaps I'm just super lucky.

Although, I imagine someone will tell me that that's not really the case, that they've secretly been siphoning money from my account to fund terrorist organizations, or something equally "witty".

I cancelled my Vanguard subscription While still in my 30 day trial period and yes, they did continue to charge me afterwards. I called them up and told them i was pissed and they immediately refunded the charge--after they told me i never cancelled. Still pisses me off though. I see SoE  is still up to its usual slimy business practices.

This hasn't happened to me with Vanguard because I never purchased Vanguard. I was only a beta tester. But it has happened to me on other SOE titles.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

I had a slight roblem canceling as my "secret question" was not working. I used the chat system and they canceled it.  If you are having problems canceling, all you need to do is contact them. If this fails, contact your credit card company.
