Ok so I really want to post a screenie, how do you guys do this?

Still unsure how people rave about LOTRO having state of the arts graphics... hehe I mean, I have the game and I would never make that claim... Armor never matches, textures even with everything max'd still looks worse than GW's textures and enviroments for that matter.

The most important part of reading is reading between the lines.

    Armor never matches?

The textures are fantastic in this game.

The game looks good, functions real good, all very good for and mmorpg.

Compare to other non-mmo games the textures are quite weak though.

Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

    Damn!  Wrong quote.

That's because it's the graphics engine from Asherons Call 2, a game that was released some four (?) years ago, a bit tweaked but still the same graphics engine.

(they should have used the Unreal 3 graphics engine)

This is the correct quote, sorry.

I never knew LOTRO used the AC2 engine - I thought it was the DDO engine and stopped right there. I gotta say though, I think that was a wise move by Turbine - they knew exactly how it worked, all the main engine bugs were mostly fixed, and they had all the tools needed to create this brilliant world.

Vanguard used the Unreal engine. While the graphics are nice in VG, the system specifications to run the game at top notch are not (and yes, i wish I had that kind of hardware, heheh). But to be honest, I prefer the way LOTRO looks with the good old engine it's using right now, even though VG's graphics can be stunning too. I mean, any game that can put out quality like this:

....is bloody good in my book. And the fact that this screenshot: http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/3518/scenicpurdygwi0.jpg is still my desktop background ever since I first saw it (thanks Hairysun!), is a great example of LOTRO's artwork... I mean... it looks like a painting to me...

Anyway... my apologies to the OP for the slight deviation of topic.

The DDO engine is the AC2 engine, a bit tweaked but still the same engine and even more tweaked for LotRO.

They did very nice work with the clouds and the ripple effects on the water, I will give them that but the graphics engine is still a bit outdated these days.

How do you get a picture of your character into your forum profile?  That is so cool looking.

Click on the "My Profile" tab at the top right on your screen and then go to the Avatar option, maximum size is 80x80 pixels but it will get shrunk if its too large.

Good luck with your new avatar.

Mine got a little bit shrunk I think.
