Do I need a Pre-Order edition to use Founder Key?

Greets.

I believe I have ordered a regular retail version of LOTR via eBay - will I be needing a Pre-Order version to enable the use of Founder Key? Or will the Founder Key work on any retail version?

Regards.

You needed to have activated a pre-order key to be elligible for the founder's club rate.

    The deadline has already passed.

You may be able to find someone who pre-ordered, that didn't go retail, to give up their account.

    Oh no! :( :( :( *gloom*

    edit:

Assuming I manage to find a preorder key - is the launch date (or expiration date for this offer) the 24th of May?

Do I need to do the following:

    1. Make A turbine account.

    2. Enter the Pre-Order key.

    3. Add the Founder-Key.

    4. Add the retail Key.

ie. is the above order correct? Or should 3 & 4 be reversed?

    Thanks.

I'm not entirely sure on the cutoff date.

Founder would need to be added before the retail key.

Maybe someone else can shed some light on this subject.

Hmm... isnt pre-copy key = pre-order key = founder key? Aren't they all the same? This is getting confusing. :(

I bought my pre-order box from Best Buy and played LoTRO for about 1 week prior to its release to the public. In the pre-order box I got a game key which enabled me to play Beta.

When the game was released on the April 24th? I didnt enter my LoTRO Special Edition key that I bought from Best Buy till the April 29th because the game itself said I had a few more days of Beta Trial, but it was requiring me to enter a Game to continue playing.

I contacted Turbine and stated what should I do since I had a choice of either paying 9.99 month or 199.99 lifetime. I wanted to go with the $199 lifetime since I believe thats the better deal. He said as long as I choose a payment selection before May 24th it didnt matter. After May 24th I will not be given an opportunity to choose. So I picked the $199 deal.

Now this is where I get confused myself. If I hadnt entered a PRE-ORDER key before April 29th would I have still qualified for the founders special price?

From what I am seeing ppl posting is that you will not be granted the founders price, due to the fact you musta entered the PRE-ORDE BETA key before the 29th, despite if you still got the Pre-Order Box or not. I think you had to create a character by the 29th to intialize the founder priviliages. But I could be wrong.

I would contact Turbine by phone just to make sure. There phone # is (781) 407-4054

    Goodluck!

I THINK that onlinecdkey is selling pre-order keys (without the actual game) for 5$ each(or free if you order a retail copy). Not completely sure if it would work, but might be worth looking into. onlinecdkey.com/index/thelordoftheringsonlineshadowsofangmarpresale-p-184.html

There is only the Pre-Order Key and the regular Retail Key.

The Account must be created with the Pre-Ordier Key first.

Then, the Retail Key must be added.

Here is the timing info from the official web-site :

When does the Pre-order Program end?

A: The Pre-order Program officially ends when the retail product is launched on April 24th, 2007. You may continue to apply your Pre-order Product Key for up to 30 days post-launch so long as you apply it before you enter your Retail Product Key and before your first subscription billing date.

You have under 2 weeks left to act.

    Good Luck

Many thanks for all the replies. Specially the above info (sigh of relief). And indeed the Founder-Key is the same as the Pre-Order key! I have updated my turbine account with it - just waiting on the retail to arrive!!!! 2 weeks.... eh? *suspense*

That is completely wrong, I bought my key off of Ebay and had already enter my retail and was playing the game. Once I saw the Ebay sale I bought the founders key and it worked perfectly fine. One thing I did notice though was everyone said you must enter the Founders key prior to the retail except one seller. That seller quoted thier key would work after retail, is there really two types of founders key? Since then I have searched Ebay again and noticed one other is claiming the same exact thing but it seems they have copied the first sellers template exactly, they didnt even change one thing guess they just cut and pasted off the first sellers add. So I am not sure if his keys are the same or not. nocaj is the first seller and if you read the feedback one of the buyers comments how the key worked after retail

    http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=nocaj&&ftab=FeedbackAsSeller&sspagename=VIP:feedback:2:us&iid=320112832832

Someone provided a link to a website called onlinecdkey.com I read the two reviews from customers, guess you have to be careful.

    I pasted the reviews below:

Turbine answers all these questions on there site.

You can still purchase the founders key, I would suggest safe places such as on ebay where you pay with paypal and can get your money back if the key doesn't work. After reading the customers review about onlinecdkeys.com on their own site I would be leary of buying there.

You can enter the key even after the retail key is entered, you have until may 24th to do so.

I linked the turbine FAQ's about this topic below:

Does the same rules apply for the EU servers?

  • ThaindorThaindor Member Posts: 36

Same rules apply for EU, they do have a different pricing plan though.

The Lord of the Rings Online™ Founder Member program offers players two different membership options:

    £99.99 for a Lifetime Membership!*
A six month package for £35.94...that’s just £5.99 per month!*

Wow  now I am jealous the six month plan is is way better than ours.

Yodal, the british pound is not the same value as the USD,  5.99 pounds is like 11.7 USD.

I just bought a founder's key today on eBay and added it to the retail account I've been using for a week.

    The deadline is tomorrow though.
