Also 99% of the quests are worthless to do. Now i am not bashing this game because i loved the combat in variety, they just need to fix a few things before i come back, but for your sake, i would say WoW > FFXI

Hmm.. there's a bit of what I touched on in my last post here..

The comment that 99% of the quests are worthless to do - again, this is subjective. It depends on what you want/expect out of them. What you want or expect is obviously not necessarily what someone else does.

Saying it's a "very slow run"  - again... what's slow to you may be very comfortable to someone else. Again.. very subjective.

For me, the quests are great and I enjoy doing them - whatever the reward. And from another perspective... I did all the Tele quests so I could sell the scrolls for some money. So those alone were very useful to me. Same with the Aspir quest. Same with many other quests... In all i find many of the quests very entertaining. The Star Onion Brigade series of quests in Windy are great... I laughed out loud many times at those. So to me, the quests aren't useless at all. They provide interesting storylines and some entertainment.

Now, if you're looking to do quests only for the rewards they yield then, I can see how they may seem useless. But again.. that's up to the player's expectations. It's not a flaw in the game.

    You couldn't be more right.

People lost the main focus of what a RPG is with MMO. Most of them will only play them to get to the higher level as fast as possible and have the better items. Just look at LOTRO, i was reading the forums and everyone seemed to be saying that for the first week everything was fine until everyone went nuts and wanted to be the highest level asap. The the community started being dull and most of them probably have no clue about the storyline.

As far as i remember, when i used to play a RPG on the SNES, once i've beaten it, i was buying another RPG, but with MMO, the point is to add extra contents at the end of the game for it to become an endless game. I personally switched to the "dark side" after a few MMOs and only wanted to become the highest level with the best gears. I never noticed this until recently, and that's mainly what killed all the MMOs for me.

This being said, it's kindda sad to see the way MMORPGs took. If everyone would focus on the storyline and play an MMO like a real RPG, there would be plenty of awesome MMORPGs. The most popular would probably be the less popular and vice versa. I'm personally looking forward at getting into new console RPGs and be done with MMOs.

Yea i kind of reread it and I realised I wasnt very informative there. Here I will give my list of pros and cons with my experience with the game

    Pro's-

Many classes to choose from, with many unique abilities

Friendly community, I did not run into one asshole that you would see in a game like EQ2 or WoW

no loading times is always a thing people enjoy, and the game had plenty of variety

    Now for the Cons

Inflation, I am not too sure if this was true in all servers, but my server Fenrir was severely inflated making buying gear difficult

Ability gain: unless you are a caster, you will get one new ability every 5 levels, and to me that is way too big of a gap.

Quests: things in this game are not cheap, and the quests do not give the rewards or experience to be useful at all.

Leveling: Once you hit lvl 9, you will have to level in a zone called valkrum dunes, and you will have to have a full group of 6, and from levels 9-75 you will have to group for every bit of decent exp

I hope this is a bit clearer as to my post was, i may be wrong on a couple points do to I havent played the game since before treasures of aht urghan. Thje game is fun, but too many down sides

It depends on one thing. If you'll play the game for the storyline, leveling here and there and the roleplaying aspect of the game, then go ahead. If on the other hand, you want to get to 75 as fast as possible and have the most uber gears, as a casual player you'll probably spend more than a year or more to get to this point and sometimes feel like you spent 2-3 hours playing without even advancing.
