Well.... I am a Fire-Mage... I love the DPS... I love those fire balls... quick deaths...  Awesome for some instances & small groups that you see a mob get cut down fast

For PVP & Arena... Go Frost/Arcane; plenty of websites out there where to put the talents for this spec.

with the upcoming  patch: Patch 2.1.0 Notes http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/test-realm-patchnotes.html

I am SERIOUSLY considering switching to either Frost/Arcane or Arcane/Frost.  On the Arcane/Frost spec line, while in WoW I have Yet to see one. Some will Frost/Fire & Fire/Frost... but Arcane for PvP has not proved it's usefulness... at least from what I seen.

The reason of change, for the higher gear, places like Kara and The Black Temple have some decent stuff... better then player made... :(  A mage's fun in these Instances has been the *sheeping* of that target for @ 20 seconds.... now, it will be 8 seconds... being a Lock or Rogue will be really needed for a Mob being bound so-to-speak for a longer period of time. A Frost Mage will be better suited now for those areas as well. imo

This guy got it right, frost/arcane mages are better at PvP. You'll know why when you perma-freeze your enemies

That change does not affect the players in PvE, it affects certain mobs that have the ability to sheep players. In PvP the sheep has a far shorter duration and higher probability to break (along with diminishing returns).

What the patch changes (very serious in pvp) for mages is that now Ice Block has a 20? seconds cooldown/debuff, so you cannot use two ice blocks in a row anymore.

About how to begin a talent spec for pvp, for arena pvp, you should take a look at the highest rating players. Yes, most are arcane/frost; some get improved silence, and others go full frost for + damage. In my opinon improved silence is a big help.

Frost mages have far more survivability due to the ice block skill, so generally do far better in most battlegrounds.

Fire mages don't have the same defences, so combined with their low HP they are very vulnerable to enemy attack. However they can be very effective in PvP if they have a large enough front line to hide behind. In Alterac Valley a fire mage can be very dangerous. By the time you work out which of the 20 people standing in front of you has just knocked off half your hit points, it's generally too late.

Well yeah fire is fun (of big numbers) but 1v1 fire mage is a honorkill but frost mages in other hand is really annoying those novas + pet(water element) has a nova skill to witch freezes, so actually full frost mages are really great cuz you can keep lot of players frozen and u know how great it is against melee classes?

But frost/arcane mage is more dmg tended with sum extra dmg and thats nice..ive seen frost/fire mages who frostolt crit 4k+ dunno maybe thats not big number but think yourself..in these days with TBC casters dont hawe more than 8-9hp so two F-bolt crits and theyre dead...

all i want to say is both are good frost/arcane are more dmg and full frost well thats how things work greatly with ice lance n stuff, but fire mages, dunno dont like fire mages, but it dosnt means theyre suck, great numbers but they just die too fast, even in epics..
