To many people, it seems as though no games out there now are sutible for there "high standards" of gaming. So what do they instead of whine and moan about the current games out there, they talk about upcoming mmorpg's only to be disappointed so they can whine and moan some more. A few examples of these incredible failures is Vanguard SoH, Horizons, and Star Wars Galaxies. My thinking is, is that one of these hyped up games will live up to these "high standards", and to the standards of everyone else. Warhammer Online: The Age of Reckoning, Age of Conan, The Chronicles of Spellborn, and Darkfall, among others come to mind when I think of a future successful mmorpg. But if only one was to live up to these standards, what would it be, and why? What would be the doom to others? Can one, if not many be a success? What would you like to see in these games, and what should stay out? You don't need to answer all of these questions, but for the ones you do answer, please be detailed.

I fully know and trust Funcom to do their absolute best to deliver exactly what they have promised in AoC, I cannot say the same for any other gaming company. Except perhaps Bioware, and they aren't in the running here.
When it comes down to it, the quality and commitment of a developing team is the only real factor that makes or breaks a game, assuming no overriding external forces.
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

None of the Above?
You listed Darkfall...
The hype that currently exists will not exist when the game is finally released, as we will all be dead. Perhaps our great grand children will still want it?
ROFL! That had me cracking-up! People say some great stuff on this board sometimes.
ha ha!
Tabula Rasa for sure. "what hype?" you would say. "Exactly!" there is almost nothing about it, so it will have an easy time surprising everybody.
Also I believe WAR will live up to the hype, to a reasonable extent. Unsure about all others.

[Here's a list of all the games I've played and/or my computer specs to show how much more seasoned or technologically advanced I am than you.]
Warhammer Online and AoC, just that you can't vote both, so I voted for Warhammer. I got my full trust in EA Mythic.
I'm hoping AoC will live up to the hype, but because im hoping that it will probably dissapoint.
When Everquest 2/WoW where released i expected EQ2 to be the better game but it turned out it was WoW that lived up to the hype.
When Vanguard/LoTRO where released i expected Vanguard to live up to the hype, but as we now all know it was LOTRO that did while Vanguard horribly failed.
In light of that history it seems that games that aim for "some" depht somehow completely fail to live up to their hype while the cooky cutter games come out victorious.
In that light i am afraid that AoC will dissapoint and it will be WAR that is amazing. Of course I am hoping that both those games will kick ass.
It's probably impossible to keep secret but most games are just announced too early. This allows an insane amout of hype and expectation to build up. The seemingly inevitable delays lead to the first dissapointments and the unrealisticly high expectations make that none of the games could ever live up to them.
Possibly this could be countered if devs could be more detailed or release more info but they can't really let out their secrets so the whole rumour and speculation mill goes unchecked.
I support Belgiums efforts to get noticed ... at all.

"When people tell me designing a game is easy, I try to get them to design a board game. Most people don't last 5 minutes, the rest rarely last more then a day. The final few realize it's neither fun nor easy."
I don't follow AoC and WAR, so I can't really say. At my first impression, AoC will most likely fulfill its hyper out of the two, but maintainence where it all really starts.
I have my bet and vote on PotBS. It already fulfilled the void of a different MMORPG genre. *nods*
I personally voted for WAR, i was really impressed with DAoC (easily impressed because it was my first mmo), when i thought it was getting old, i tried WoW, Starwars Galaxies, EQ2, and a few more, but i kept going back to DAoC. I'm hoping, and expecting that WAR will be the same way, but my hopes aren't very high, so it shouldn't be hard to live up to my expectations.
When I put DF, and other games on my poll, they were mostly fillers from top 10 hype on home page
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
The people looking forward to WAR are the people who are expecting a new game similar to those in the past... thats probably what they will get
The People looking forward to AoC are looking for something different and arent satisfied with current games.... thats probably what they will get
All the other games on the list dont have an overwhelming amount of hype, people are looking forward to them, me included, but they arent shouted as the next big game. Or end up in the thousands of AoC vs. WAR debates which stem from every thread
the only game i think will disappoint will be darkfall, the majority of people hyping it are hardcore supporters who have extremely high hopes for it
WAR no doubt will be a great game, but imo everyone is considering this to be the hardcore pvp game and the developers are making it seem like it will be hardcore....But imo WAR is far from a hardcore pvp game..
I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.

Mythic is an experienced company that already showed they could create a good RvR game.
(And the devs videos look to good)
Age of Conan..
Well.. Age of Conan for the sake of the genre MUST succed..
otherwise we will lose (another) oportunity to give new dynamics to MMORPG's..
you have to believe..
And i do. Those two will kick ass
PoTBS is gonna be ill.

Hope so, Tabula Rasa looks like it will bring some new dynamics to the field =D
