Do huge RPG games tempt you away from MMOs?

napalmswebnapalmsweb Member UncommonPosts: 150
There have been a few games recently, such as Oblivion and more recently, Two Worlds, which have been taking a ton of my gaming time and this has left my EQ2 sub languising. These two games are great because they offer huge, lush worlds where you as the protagonist can actually influence events and have NPCs actually mention events you helped influence.

I was wondering if others here find games like the above, or say NWN2 or Gothic3, have taken significant time away from their MMO playing and whether you feel as the quality of these RPG games improves, whether that will influence your subscription decisions.

If the it's a good game (like Oblivion) it will keep me playing. I've played through nearly whole Oblivion, including the expansion, and still loving it. Even tho I miss to play with other players it's still lots of fun.

If an expansion is to come for Oblivion (a big one) I would certainly buy it and cancel any active subscriptions.

I wouldn't say tempt me away really. I don't really feel a stand-alone RPG can replace an MMO, there's just way to much interaction online to make up for that experience in a single player environment.

That being said, I certainly don't stop myself from playing the good RPGs. I wasn't a big fan of Oblivion myself, bloated nonsense if you ask me, but I loved and still play Vampire: Blood Lines, the older elder scrolls boxes. One of favorites was the original NWN sets, even some of the stand alones were amazing fun to play.

I think the type of player who would be lured away by RPGs is those, like myself, who largely solo MMOs, but also like the grouping aspects occassionally.

I was playing Fable likely 1-2 years ago and I was really addicted to it. But soon I noticed that all rpg gets boring after tou finished it. MMOs are boring too but i never compared them seriously.

NWN2 and games like it make more addiction. Because you feel yourself like you must finish it. All in all mmos forever ^^

I love RPG's but they'll never replace the interactivity and PvP aspects of an MMO.

    I just replayed Lunar 1 and 2.

So tired of Lucia crying getting to me every time.

Still, I'm sure ill beat it until I'm forced to emulate it.

Anyway this has taken away my mmo time for sure, but atm its just a bunch of worthless free ones.

So I think my time was better spent.

I think only the classic rpgs with a heart touching story and sweet ass 90s(hah) metal can be considered mmo killers.

s'why i'm buying a 360 and not a new computer cause MMO's are slowly coming to 360 (AoC) and then theres rpg's like mass effect, elveon, two worlds, obliv, fable 2, KoToR 3, blue dragon- just go to link for a list.

Still I will miss PC MMO-age like GW

I play MMOs to make a badass character and play in a persistant world with other people.  So if a big RPG came along with an online mode I would strongly consider it, I would be happy playing on a private server with 40 other people, I don't neccesarly need thousnds.

Wonder whatever became of the alleged Oblivion multiplayer mod that I saw a while back?

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

I didn't like Oblivion or many of the recent single player rpgs.  I found them boring.  Things like Planescape: Torment, a couple of the earlier Elder Scrolls, Baldur's Gate and that lot,  Vampire: Bloodlines, the Gothic series, etc, of course I play.  I'm not one of those people (well, at least not anymore) who spend hours and hours every single day playing an MMO so I have the time to play both if I like.  Of course, when I find a really good game, or start a new MMO, I always over do a wee bit.
