Hello, I myself am considering upon purchasing lord of the rings online, im a definate fantasy nerd, and read the lord of the rings books many times, for the first time when i was 6 (ye i know ... took a while ^^). Anyway, i would like to know a couple of questions.
First of all, the most important one for me, how is the game world, compared to the world from the books, is it exact? whats missing? and whats there? Does it have a definate lord of the rings feel?
Secondly, The grind, ah yes, the biggest pain in the ass in MMO's, how is it in LOTRO?
Is the Game solo orientated, or group orientated? Dungeons and bosses maybe?
Finally, what has the game itself done to attempt to break the mould of standard fantasy MMO's (WoW ... :P)?
Thanks for answers in advance, and if anyone possibly has a buddy key they could provide me with, i would be very thankful
Cheers guys!

2) The grind is not nearly as bad as it is in some games. The game is primarily quest based, which means almost all your EXP comes from doing quests. Unfortunatly a lot of the quests are "go here, kill x number of beasts, come back for exp and money" but that doesn't bother me nearly as much as have to kill tons of mobs to gain a lvl so I can actually do a quest.
3) The game is very solo oriented. There are plenty of group quests to be done, however you can go 1-50 just on solo play. I will point out that currently there is a gap in solo content from lvl 30-40, however that is being filled in with the June update coming in about 2-3 weeks.
4) I would say the game breaks no molds, but its not exactly a bad thing. Even though it takes a lot from many previous MMOs, EQ2 and WoW for example, I think it puts them together in an enjoyable way that will keep at least me playing it for a long time.
Well hopefully my answers helped you out some. If you have any more questions feel free to post them up.

The game world is not zoned. The /ooc and chats are set up in zones. Not the world. You do not zone from breeland into north downs. You do not zone from the shire to breeland. The only place that you zone from right now is ered luin to the shire and that is cause there is a gap between the two that will be filled in later. It is missleading to say the world is not seamless when it is the chat that is set up in seperate zones, meening no global chat were everyone in the world can here you looking for a minstrel when you are in bree. Just the people in bree can here you.
You do have to zone in and out of buildings. That is for lag reducing purposes. You also have to zone in and out of instances and dungoens. The overall world is seamless with insides of buildings and dungoens in zones. Oh you also have to zone into ettenmoors since it is seperate from the rest of the world to keep the monster players in that area.
1.- Do not rely in movies, this game is based on lotr trilogy books. Extremely well done enviroment, map 90% accurate, dev's had to add content not in books to create a lvl progression kinda line.
2.- Ther's grind at some point but u'll not find yourself killing countless numbers of trolls just because u want to raise lvl.. heh, it will take FOREVER! (so far the most annoying quest i had to do was to collect boar stomaches, considering it's just one out of hundred or so quests i've done, the quests are done amazingly well, in a few words Quests rocks over lotro!). So yes, quest are the thing to do, and i say thanks for that dev's!.
Wow created such a bad gamestyle *sigh* it's amazing that ppl actually ask for grinding zones . *Yes, yes i want to spend 3 hours killing the same thing viewing the same place, HOW FUN DUDE!!!!*
U can solo all lvls, but u'll miss some nice historywise quests (xp and rewards as well) that actually makes u want to do those over and over again, i migth recommend the great barrows line, lonelnads line, and of course the north downs line. Man i love the quest dev's of this game!!!
3.- ther's a lot of mould breaking, starting with the dread/hope system, read this review and u'll see what u'll find that is not in any mmorpg. http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/128287
The crafting is done just right IMO. It's not too technical like in other games, and it actually MEANS something in LOTRO.
Just to give you some reference to your questions and also other responses in this thread:
I am currently a level 41 Human Guardian, and my crafting profession is an Artisan Metalsmith. Metalsmithing is basically an armorsmith in which we can make Heavy Armor which is used by Guardians, Captains, and Champion classes after you gain a certain level in those classes. I've made quite a bit of money making armor and selling it on the Auction House, but most of the armor I have made for my kinship (guild).
Leveling is pretty much based on questing although you can just grind mobs to level if you want to, but it's MUCH slower. The quests are done well and pretty challenging at the higher levels. You can solo if you want to but alot of the quests after level 40 are group based, but some you can do solo or with a partner.
IMO, LOTRO is one of the best MMO's I have ever played next to UO and EQ1. Hands down.
By the way, if you want to check out our website just to look around, it's at http://www.mithrilguard.com
Very nice info joe, may i just ask, what other games you have played, to see what your comparing to?
Oh and still, no one has a Buddy Key going spare?
Edit: Don't have a buddy key spare anymore, sorry. Gave mine to neighbors son already.
The list is long but here goes, and this is in order:
Neverwinter Nights on AOL
Meridian 59
UO
EQ1
DAOC
SWG
DDO (didnt like)
WoW
EQ2
Vanguard (about a month)
and finally...
LOTRO
The problem with the "crafting mess" thread is the original poster is some are saying crafting is useless which is SO NOT THE CASE. Jewelcrafting, metalsmithing, tailoring are just some of the professions where you can make some very good money, and the items are some of the best in the game if you have the rares to make them with. (purple crafting rare items to make the final product).
