Well for me the killing point of GW is how its completely instanced.

I reccomend WoW if you've never played it...

Guild Wars leans to PVP and WoW to PVE, although there is PVP in WoW theres more PVE in it. Also, in Guild Wars you get the max level insanely fast.

edit: If you go WoW, make a Warlock or Hunter for PvP, they are noobie-friendly classes.

Well if you haven't played WOW. You will like it. The only reason i quit Wow is because I am bored because I have played it for so long.

As the previous post mentioned roll lock or hunter if you want to dominate most of the other classes in PVP.

realize, you can't compare them. GW = Skill based/fast/PvP based - WoW = The opposite.

    A matter of choise really.

I recommend you GW. PvEs are boring. In GW you will easily level up and then PvP. If youre looking for action play GW.

It's a matter of taste to a large degree. Do you like to feel immersed in MMO's? Do you like to feel as if your part of one big virtual world? In that case go for World of Warcraft. Like roleplaying? Go for WoW.

If you dont care about the virtual world feel of traditional MMO's and only play for action and pure gameplay go guildwars. If you don't feel the need to be immersed in a virtual world which becomes more than a place to game and you really just want to blast away enemies and have fun playing, go guildwars.

Thats the main difference. In general WoW is also stronger in PVE while Guildwars is better in PVP, though if you are the type that wants to be immersed in the world you play in you will miss WoW's world PVP.

Both are excellent titles. My advice would be like me and get both. Since guildwars doesn't have monthly fee you can play it aside from another MMO without much risk and just losing 20 Euro or so for a copy of one of the three titles (i'd get prophecies).

I've never played WOW (I can't afford it) but I have played Guild Wars. So for what it's worth, this is my opinion of the game:

I've tried so hard  to like Guild Wars, it's one of the most graphically beautiful games I've ever player and the game controls are superb (you can use either the mouse or keyboard to play).

But as the other posters have said, Guild wars' main focus is on PvP. If you're not into PvP then this really isn't the game for you. Although you can play PvE, I found it very frustrating and simply not fun at all. And you can forget trying to play solo, despite the instanced world (which I love by the way, no griefer's, no kill stealers..just wonderful!) it is absolutely impossible to play solo.

The difficulty of the game is extreme. I've never played a game that was this hard before. If you're a hardcore player who loves a challenge, this will suit you to a tee. But if you're a casual gamer like me, who just wants to fill in a few hours with a bit of monster slaying, the game is simply too hard and too unfair.

Overall I rate it like this:

    Graphics 10/10

    Game Controls 10/10

Fun 2/10 (higher if you're into PvP).

Graphically you won't find a better game to date than Guild Wars and  is probably one of the best competitive games out there still.  The only prob with Guild Wars is that if you aren't into pvp then you find yourself doing alot of repetitive pve tasks, like constanly making new characters because there isn't tons of pve content compared to other games. They do have titles you can earn in this game but those are for only who like titles. I have been playing Guild Wars for almost 2 years and have no regrets. Don't forget as well that Guild Wars has it's expansion coming out in Q3 and also they are making a full blown mmo Guild Wars 2. It also has no monthly fee so you don't have to feel you need to put tons of hours each day into the game to justify the monthly fee cost. Guild Wars ftw !

If you're asking yourself "GW or WoW?", putting them on the same plate, then I suggest you get World of Warcraft.

P.S. Guild Wars PvE is not hard, wtf.

Definitely get WoW. WoW is definately better in most aspects and will last a lot longer as well. GW will get boring in 2 weeks time.

i've played guild wars and WoW. i got a lvl 70 rogue on WoW and i'll say its a huge time sink. i feel like i jus gotta complete this instance, or that quest and then it jus keep going on. i feel like i have no life lol. however i must say its quite fun ( the pve aspect and the community) but it gets boring once u to lvl 70. really nothing cept raid and raid and raid. if u have a lot of time on ur hands and no where to waste it tho, u can try WoW.

Guild wars is nice i like the story and the graphics and how its all instanced (no foreigh interference ). its pvp is also very fast paced and skill based ( unlike WoW's warlock pwns all, as stated by previous posters ). however it does get boring if u are more inclined to pve. the end game pve are not exactly a lot, so u'll find urself doing nothing but creating new toons / pvping / farming / trying out builds.

Both are great games, give em both a shot =) if u are more rpg-inclined u can play WoW and if ur more mmo-inclined try guild wars.

To play or not to play, that is the question - MMO Freak

The main things to notice I think are: GW is cheaper, WoW is expensive. GW is more casual, WoW isn't and has way more content. You can trial them both (as said above).

There are players who do powergame GW (waste of time IMO re-complete it with a diff character) but I think its a more casual game and if you want to invest your life into a game WoW is better suited for you. What sort of player are you? I like GW because you can log on a short amount of time and have some PvP fun but still play it all day and theres virtually no grinding (non in PvP) and ownage is based on player skill not money and time invested like with WoW. Trial them tbh they are both top notch games

They just released hard mode FYI. But yeah many GW players love the PvE. But myself and others are PvP junkies. PvP on guildwars is one of the funniest things ever, I'll never forget some 8v8 competions i've entered with my guild.
