ps3 and hdtv's

I just bought a ps3 and am planning on buying a hdtv shortly.  I have been hearing that the ps3 won't display hd on some tvs.  Can someone that has one clear this up for me?

    Haven't you heard, if you connect the PS3 to a HDTV it will come to life, eat the TV and then kill you and all your family.
