I wouldn't recommend you do that. If you're coming from WoW than you will be very disappointed to find that the PvE in this game is lacking incredibly. The quests are very boring and, compared to WoW's PvE, just plain out sucks. But not all hope is lost! The PvP in this game is VERY good! RvR is THE best part of the game. Keep trying to get the trial to work, but don't go and spend money on it if you don't know you're going to like it.

Aye, like the poster above said, DAOC is very different from WoW, specially in terms of PvP and PvE. The PvE is pretty empty, specially nowadays with instances (you'll be able to get at max level in around a week, if you play enough), and get a decent gear in some days (if you're starting in a classic server), but the PvP is just way better than most mmos around. I don't remember if trial accounts have access to instances, but if they do, you can get to the most popular arenas in a matter of days (try thid, molkvik or cathal valley) so you can taste how it's like.

    Ultima Online 98~04
    Dark Age of Camelot 03~07
    Final Fantasy XI 04~06
    Guild Wars 05~08
    World of Warcraft 04~05

Just because you played WoW does not mean you are going to be disapointed.  The first DAOC players originally played EQ so it was not like "oh this is different than EQ so we do not like it."  In fact, it is when the PvE became more like EQ (and now WoW) that people were upset.  Besides, if you liked WoW you would just stick with it.

After this next patch DAOC will be returning to its roots as a group centric game and almost all raid content will be gone.  The PvE is a lot quicker.  I guess I am just cynical.  It is not like WoW did anything different in PvE than other games, they just dressed it up differently.

I look at it this way, it is your money.  I will say that if you do try DAOC, you need to really try it.  Many people that complain that "tried" it are ones that play it for 10 min and because things are different than WoW they say they do not like it.  I will say you really need about 2 monhts of playing through to decide if you like it or not.  Even with the 14 day trial you are not going to get to most of the content.  So the hotbars look different and the character movements are different.  Things do not look like a cartoon.  There are 44 classes and 3 realms. There aren't 40 man raids.

So I look at it this way, are you willing to spend $30 on a game you might not like?  That is up to you.  I look at it like any other game mmo or otherwise.  Certainly free-trials can help, espically if you are picky and minor things piss you off, but for the most part with DAOC you need a lot longer than 14 days to try so many different aspects out.

ONCE again somone comes here and states that people uses instances to level, WHERE is this happening? nobody I know level in instances anymore, there is ALOT better exp outside nowdays since the new bonues were intruduced... If people stopped comming here posting lies about the game maybe more people would play it.

You can level in the battlegrounds on enemy players all the way to molvik if you like, many players do on the classic servers. 150-200% expbonus in rvr-zones tends to make it enjoyable.

I wouldn't do it.  At one point 5 years ago DAOC was state of the art.  It's now way past it's prime.  When I got to WoW, I could help thinking it was DAOC II.  Blizzard took the best ideas from Mythic's game and incorporated them into WoW in a McDonald's sort of way.  Is DAOC a better game than WoW that's up to each of us.  If you played WoW, I'd stay away from this game.  My personal opinion.

    WoW is nothing like DAoC.

Play DAoC on a Classic server, hit the newbie PvP areas, enjoy.

You dont have to be lvl 50 to get into the PvP in DAoC.

DAOC is more dificult yes... But its still one of the best MMORPG's out there, nothing beats a good night of heavy RvR !
