[p]I don't know if it's the demographics of the people playing or just the attitude those in the game but everyone (and I mean everyone) that I've come in contact with as been real cool. The game seems to be completely devoid of any griefers or whiners or potential kiddie-scripters. Don't get me wrong, the game's not filled with boring old people. I've had a blast with some of these guys and girls. I'm sure there are folks who are not so nice that I just haven't run into but they are very rare if they do exist. It's cool to just be able to hookup with a bunch of people in a team and go "hunting" and not be in with any insecure egos or complainers. I may not be doing the best job of explaining this, but, let's keep the standard up.

No Phat Lewtz = less competitive = more FUN.  image

Plus the backstory is of the Heroes defending the city *together*, not every man for himself and the first one to hit the level cap wins.

No Phat Lewtz (generic) = less competitive = more FUN (SHORT TERMED) = QUICKER BOREDOM.

    Actually you do get "loot"

Wonder why everyone thinks you dont??

I get enhancemnts and inspirations all the time from drops

Plus if anyone kills Dr.Vahzilok then come back and talk about no loot

En1Gma I think it is the loot itself that causes "no loot" feeling.  My personal opinion for this phenomenon is that all inspiration and enhancement drops look almost completely identical.  Accuracy is what...a yellow coin with a number.  After I got the 800th one I could have cared less.  Not only are the graphical representations of loot very very generic when you are able to level up a power slot with an enhancement the players hero feels and plays exactly the same even though your power went from level 5 to level 10.  Or the recharge of the power is a little less because of a "grey clock coin" (duration enhancement).  This is where boredom set in very quickly.

I could not get a mob to drop that "anal weilding bastage sword of darkness in the light".  Now that is something to look forward to....lol.  See my point?

ummmm sword, coin, its all ones and zeros, just a graphical representation of some stats, basically CoH Loot system just requires a bit of imagination....but i guess imagination is dead, if it doesnt have bells and whistles, everyone complains....

Best game I have EVER played was Nethack, it was 100% ASCII gfx, leagues ahead in gameplay, then EVERY MMO out there

Yeah, but why would you want to weild an Anal Bastage Sword of Darkness in the light if you are a superhero?

No not the point :(  It is the uniquness of the item that makes it worth the trouble and effort to get it.  There are thousands of unique items for each type of character in many MMOG's.  This is just not the case in CoH.  Yeah fight win fight win fight win BUT for what?  All the same!  That is my point.  No hero would want to wield an Anal Bastage Sword of Darkness in the Light but I gaurantee you that Beavis and Butthead would die to fight with one of those puppies.  See this sword something unique that only they can use and there are very few of them being used.  It does not look like every other sword in the game graphically.  And there are thousands of unique swords each with their own properties and graphical representations.  Some look totally bad ass!

The generic graphical representation of enhancements and inspirations and the very minor effect they cause when implemented just plain sucks.  GENERIC GENERIC GENERIC.   Just ruins this game within a couple of days. :(  No amount of roleplaying will cure this ailment!

This game will get boring after a month or 2, may faster or longer for some. It's still a good game. Not enough content. One of the best combat system in mmorpg.

I like the fact that a lot of people who play games for loot and drops seem to be repelled by CoH. It's not that it's a wrong way to play, it's just not my style, and I've had more unpleasant encounters with those types of players than any other.

We all look for something different in our game experience, and no matter how they're packaged, all MMORPG are little more than hack 'n slash leveling treadmills. In the end, what you get out of the game is what you bring into it with your own imagination. I loved EQ for a time and couldn't imagine ever feeling differently about it, until one day I realized that the fantasy had worn off, leaving nothing but the work of leveling and acquiring loot. Someday CoH will get old too, but for now I'm getting my fifteen bucks worth.

So true so far.  Which game in development, if any, will have the best chance to buck this trend?  I am hoping UXO is the one.  I every Ultima up to the first online game in the series.  Many people loved it but it was just not my cup of tea!
