I think it says something about a player when they stoop to buying in-game gold with *real* money.
Why? Most players (in most games) are paying a monthly fee for the right to spend thier time earning in game gold. If they are going to pay for that, why wouldnt they pay for the money directly?
The intention is that players pay for the experience/service. However, many are finding that they are not getting the experience that they desire, because they have to spend time grinding money/exp/items. So if they are willing to pay for a certain experience... why not pay a little more and actually get it.
The problem isnt that people are buying/selling gold. The problem is that doing this improves the game (experience). That just shows that the game is flawed, and that those flaws have created this market.
