Release postponed till Q4 2007

According to this press release the Chronicles of Spellborn is post-poned from Q3 to Q4. Although we all know that should have been from Q2 to Q4. Anyway, the usual stuff for mmo's: shifting dead-lines.

Too bad. I was hoping it would be released before AOC and WAR. I think those games will bury this one now.

I agree.  I think a lot of people are looking for a new game at this point and those potential players will probably pick up AoC or WAR now before TCOS.

    -Currently looking forward to FFXIV

-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda

    I am confident they will

This delay was to be expected, as they need to put in a whole new set of character annimations

War was allready delayed till 2K8, Conan will soon announce a delay too, just beleive me...so i'll stick to vanguard for now...and enjoy the beautifull landscapes.

It does seem like a big miskate to sychronise rlease with WAR and AOC. However, TCOS does not require the latest processor, graphics card and huge amounts of RAM. So hopefully those who are dissatisfied with their PC performance is new gen MMO's will turn to TCOS. It's just as good a game as WAR or AOC, and has some brilliant unique features that sets it above the rest imo. No stats on gear, and freadom to be origional, means goodbye cookie cutter characters. It's been a long time since I've played an MMO where endgame characters looked different.

Regardless, we can only hope that OB starts soon, and progress steps up a gear, as it would be a real shame to loose lots of players to other releases in Q4.

A little birdy told me that this game still has problems with sound cards, especially onboard sound cards that are more than ~18 months old.  The game cannot run w/o sound btw either.  This is just one of many other hardware and various other compatibility issues present...or so I was told...

Like I said on the mian site, THIS IS A GOOD THING.. why?

All those who actally want to play the game will still play it, all those just looking for the' next big thing' will just wait until AoC/WAR and not touch TCoS. Look at LOTRO it's the best selling game but it wont last, a LOT of players have said 'i'm playing this until X' meaning all those servers that are currently being put up to cope with this influx of players may end up being barren when games like AoC turn up and then players WILL jump ship.

The playerbase for MMOs has no loyalty anymore, players only play for months now, not years like it used to be. If this relase gets stacked to somthing 'better' then only those loyal to TCoS will play thus not wasting the company's resources in getting new servers up in which a lot of those players will only use for 5-6 months.

    Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!

They've been watching the Vanguad train crash and decided to play it safe. And they are right! The customers want playable, polished products. I bet some of the other upcoming MMOs will also postpone their launch date.

QFE!!! Hopefully the gaming industry got the picture that we, as comsumers, will no longer tolerate paying to play beta versions of a game! And Kudos to the devs on Spell Born for saying hay we aren't quite ready yet! That being said I can't wait to for this game it looks great, but I will till the devs feel its ready!

This used to be the game I was waiting on.

Still worth waiting for ? no. Why? that prese release didn't exactlly inspire me to wait.  Only to Alt-F4 and think what  a load of....

Why do we care if they despatch a korean mmo-expert to this game ? next paragraph tells us they are trying their best to be a non korean studio! korean / asian MMOS have significant differences in playstyle to european ones..

Is it me, or have perhaps the makers of TCoS realised that if they postpone and work on making their game more suitable for asian markets they can forget about the european niche the game will be, and throw it into the asian mainstream.

I know its speculation, but.. hell.. Why not?  the game i've been waiting for, for a long time, has just been postponed.  I guess I will just have to enjoy Age of Conan instead.

    :P

This game I was kinda on the fence with...it looks like it could be good, but it could also bomb big time.  While I think that it is cool they dont want to Mcquaid this project, i think the competition that is around when this game will come out will shadow this game big time.  I think everyone is going to be wrapped up in AoC or WAR by the time this comes around.

I may be reading the press release wrong, but to me it looks like this is a statement from a transaltion company that will be localizing the game into different languages and not a direct press release from TCOS, plus the release date has not changed on MMORPG.COM and I have yet to see anying on the forums for TCOS relating to the press release quoted, the last info on release dates is here

So there is still hope for Q3 in the US.

    Age of Conan...possibly...?

Warhammer announce earlier this year that they were moving their timetable back...that may even get a further pull back as well...

    I couldn't agree more.

It's a real shame, I was so looking forward to ToS comming out soon and playing it until AoC and WAR. There is no way I am going to pick up and play all three games that are due out around the same time. So it looks like ToS will not be on my buy list

Do you really believe either AoC or WAR will come out this year?

I am all for post poning the dead line. I want a polished product rather than a unfinished one; I just want them be able to do a smooth-as-WorldofWarcraft launch. if they could do that, I could wait for a long time. ;)

Better toss in the "LotRo Effect"... releasing a polished game in light of VG's failure caught a lot of dev's attention... it raised people's expectations about how a game should be released..and smart devs would be wise to pay attention, even if it means release the game a few months later....

I don't know why anyone would think release dates aren't going to be pushed back. Is this the first game you've ever followed? Hell, PotBS was suppose to be released in 10/30/2005 at one point. Its part of a game coming out. People don't refuse to play a game, because its not out "on time". A game is done when its done. I'd much rather play a finished working project than crap. Lots of crap out there, and not enough good games.

I wouldn't be surprised if Spellborn AoC, and WAR all launch in Q1-Q2 of 2008.   However Spellborn launching anywhere near those two games is a massively bad idea.  They need to be significantly before or after  AoC and WAR  so Spellborn can  grab hold of people before they can try AoC and WAR, or wait long enough to nab those players who get bored of the other two titles.

It is difficult to predict when a game will be release when it is still in closed beta, which obviously involves finding and reparing bugs and possibly widening the scope of systems on which the game is supposed to run without error, and what not. SIL has said again and again that they will release the game when it is ready for release and will not take into account when some other big games will be released. How would they be able to anyway, because those other games might face being postponed too. It is all very unpredictable.

Will Spellborn suffer when it will be released together with other big titles? Of course, but so will the other big titles. However, for each and every title it will mainly influence the sales in the first few weeks. It usually takes players a few weeks to discover whether the hype is justified and whether a certain game is for them. When there is doubt they will start trying other games before making a final decision, well at least a percentage of them, an equally large portion of players do have limited amount of money to burn and need to make a decision before release and will try to get into open beta for that purpose.

I predict that each of these games will find its own audience, and from what I see here and in other forums of other games I think I will stick to this game, because of the type of players this game seems to attract and the look and feel of the game itself of course. Maybe this game will not be a mega hit, but it will not make this game any less than the other titles mentioned in this thread. Maybe even on the contrary, but that will only become clear when we come closer to the release of each of these games. It is a luxury to be able to make a choice between 3 such great titles (assuming they all live up to the hype that is created around them).

This game is for me. I wish others with more problems making a decision good luck and loads of fun with the game you decide to play. Or lots of free time when you want to play them all.

I used to have hopes for this game, but they can't even properly update their website. I JUST copy/pasted this from their FAQ on their website...

"Having entered Beta testing, we have regularly expanded the scope of the tests as well as the number of participants. While we do not have fixed numbers of testers planned, you can make the assumption that the total we require will grow relatively rapidly throughout 2006 until release. Our internal milestones have dictated the flow of new testers into the game, and during the International Closed Beta it is possible that we will make extreme changes to systems as we balance. Character wipes may very well take place at intervals as balancing progresses. The expectation during the Closed Beta testing is that we will be making notable changes and closely working with the Beta community (as well as the community as a whole) to tune the game into a cohesive, enjoyable product.

In late Q3 2006 we plan to begin an Open Beta period. During this time relatively large numbers of testers will be given access to the game. This will allow us to "rehearse" for our release, as well as test hardware on a larger scale. The word "Open" refers to the fact that at this point we will be removing our NDA (non-disclosure agreement) and that people will be allowed the freedom to discuss the game with players outside of the Beta. Until that time, all breaches of our testing NDA will be met with direct and immediate action. The Open Beta period is expected to extend all the way until the release of the game. During this period the focus will be on any remaining large-scale issues we find, and the game should feel relatively "ready" to be played."

Not only that, but I brought this to their attention over a week ago. I made a post in the community forum and the community manager responded within an hour saying they were going to update it, but still they haven't done it. While its a good thing the community manager actively browses their official forum, if they can't manage to update a simple text-based FAQ I'm afraid to see how the actual game will be managed.
