Why would anyone go Pirates?

Ok i know from an RP element they can be quite cool, lets face it there way coller than ninjas but apart from that why ever go them? i have 2 concerns about them 1 element i know for fact is in the game and another that im sure i read but would like clarified.

1) WHen they board and take of the enemy ship, the ship goes down to 1 structure point or whatever its called and your free game to all. this for starters would limit you in how much stuff you would actually want to take into a fight cause lets face it if you loose it all goes, and it makes cargoing goods around near impossible theefore apart from being cool and stealing ships theres nothing overly amazing about this ability.

2) Im sure i read somewhere that they cannot build stuff. i may be wrong but im sure i read it which to me put them down at the bottom pile of who id want to play, except france, the french i would never play.

In conclusion i think you cant craft and the ships you steal are limited in function due to the structure point issue. if im wrong im sure id get corrected and id like to too, as i wouldnt mind going pirates so hopefully.

Everyone has a little bit of pirate inside.  Some of those people need to get it out before it carves it's initials on their intestines.

Sexy, but lethal!  And that is why people would want to be pirates.

Most people will probably try out the pirate class, but in the long run pirates will be a small group of elite players imho.

We all know that a pirates life were a hard one : )
  • Pondering my days in SWG and WoW, it makes good sense to me that there are three "good guy" factions, and one "bad guy" faction.  The reason why is that it fits the faction choices that players typically make.  In wow, you'll typically have 1/3 horde, and 2/3 alliance.  About the same is true with SWG.  So if that assumption stays true, then roughly 1/4 or so of the players want to be the "bad guys" (pirates), and the other 3/4 will want to be the "good guys", and will split themselves amongst the other factions.

Tbh I dont care if pirates in PotBS can only use small caravels and can only drink rum and fight.I will pick a pirate cause I like freedom, pirates have the most freedom.I played a pirate in eve online,il play it in PotBS.But on the other hand alot of people will be pirates, the thing id love is to make being a pirate very hard atleast at the begining of the char, like 5x times harder than being a normal trader etc. That would make pirates rarer but more dangerous and fun,and exemple of overcrowding a class is SWG,when the NGE hit and introduced jedi as a starter playable class (biggest kick in the teeth that a MMOG company ever gave to it's subscriber base,I was an elder jedi, became one before the village wich was extremly hard, became a jedi knight wich took ages with skill point loss and BH,and then all kiddies got to play the class in 2 clicks),and as a result 90% of the remaining people that play SWG are jedi...

Yo, ho.  Yo, ho.  A pirate's life for me.

Why wouldn't you want to be a pirate, easily the coolest fictional and non-fictional group of people ever entered in to text books and movies, and now MMORPGs.  Honestly, we kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot!

If you don't want to be a pirate, I question your manhood.

Drink up my 'earties.  Yo ho.

If I am reading your question right, The captured ships have 1 durability point, basically a one use ship. In other words if you get blown up or your ship captured it is gone. A normal ship has many " lives" if you get blown out of the water or captured you go back to port and your ship looses durability point/points, you would loose your cargo or many something else on your ship. If you loose your ship altogther you do get a basic ship that is to your skill level , but not as good as a player built ship. All this could be wrong at was posted on thier forum by others.

I always figured the Jedi class would be a gamekiller for SWG.  Saw it coming a million miles away.  Jedis would either be very rare in which case you'd have a small elite class of players who were insanely overpowered to everyone else or it would be fairly easy to become one in which case everyone would do it and make the whole concept of the Jedi pointless.  They should have just left Jedis as an NPC class.

As far as pirates are concerned, the class has enough natural appeal that it probably would be a good idea to make life quite a bit harder for them in order to thin the herd a bit.  There would still be enough appeal in becoming an elite, feared pirate, even if it was a tougher road, that many would still do it.
