Looking into EQII

AltarisAltaris Member Posts: 9

I've been looking to find an MMO to fill the lazy hours of summer and I've heard nothing but good things about EQ II.

I'm a pretty casual gamer but I like some harder stuff once a week atleast. I like diversity in my games and lots of content as well as story. I played EQ 1 way back in the day and I liked it alright. My favorite game of all time would probably be either DAoC or SWG.

You think I could handle this game?

I think the game might fit you. eq2 allows you to play solo in small groups or in full groups up to max level. there are quests and instances that have story around them, as well as the basic kill 10 rats type quests. there are also lots of heritage and signature quests (more complex quests for usually better rewards) and also each expansion as well as the original game had their epic questlines (these usually starts with group quest and end with raids).

if you are interested best download the trial and test it yourself to see if the game is something for you.

I'm really into grouping, just worried there won't be enough people to group with. Any population problems?

population depends a lot on the level ranges and server you are on.  if you start with the release of the new starting zone nad new race end of may you will most likely find a lot low levels around there, a lot players will create alts to try out the new zone/race...

Also finding a guild with lots of low levels will make grouping a lot easier.  As far as i heared there are some level ranges for which groups are harder to find but you should be ok to find groups even for that (it might just take longer).

Overall populations are ok, but the lower levels are not as populated as they should be.  You level through them quickly and are not allowed many character slots so people don’t roll as many alts as in other games.  Once you get to about 50 things pick up. This really doesn’t take that long, but I still think SOE needs to do some more work here. Allowing more slots so people try more characters would help, as would a good advertising campaign.

There is also the very important step of getting more boxes on the shelves. Even the companies that sell CD keys online have trouble keeping EoF boxes in stock, and in some places (the UK apparently) it’s apparently almost impossible to find an EoF box for sale. Part of this is certainly higher then expected sales, but the distributor really needs to step it up and get more boxes out there.

Anyway, you can still find groups in the lower levels but it really helps if you are good at building social networks.  It’s also easy enough to solo, but you do miss some good content this way.

the next liveupdate will also add another character slot for normal subscribers (2 for station access subscribers) so i guess that will help for a bit in the next months.

All I can say is grouping is still kind of difficult, but for those who like to play with themselves, the solo game is still pretty strong.

I often meet people in-game with a little problem to find groups.
Well, the first 15 levels fly by like nothing. Then the first dungeons are available and it is sometimes hard to find people. Some hints...
    - dont be upset when everyone is playing his 70 raid alt on a friday night
    - saturday morning i see a lot of groups building for stormhold, wailing caves and crushbone keep
    - There is a lot of things to do if you dont find a group (make some money, complete collections, do solo quests, L&L, tradeskill)
    - From playing a few (6 exactly) alts beyond 60 i know that it is much easier from 30 onwards to find groups.
    - Once the new LFG tool is in-game there will be a lot more people to team with. My alts will be for sure to complete a lot of old stuff and earn AA XP.
