It's almost 3 years old and has all servers at "medium" pop and one at "high" (this example being EQ2, as I just checked) as opposed to a game that is about 3 months old and all servers are stuck at "low" almost always (this example coming from Vanguard as of about 10 minutes ago).

Not grounds to flame me please, as I'm actually a fan of some of what Vanguard "promises", but I just wanted to point that out. Oh, and the reason I feel it's ok to make such a direct comparison is that since both games run on SOE servers, I assume the population standards are the same for all their games ( I could be wrong though)

Have to agree on that. Been heard really bad things about Vanguard.

I've been waiting for PoTBS, STO, G&H, and SGO but I won't buy it until I hear the reviews from a few months after. If they're as bad as what I've been hearing Vanguard is, I won't be buying them.

To be fair, i reckon EQ2 a few months after release had low server population too.  A flood of people left at the time just like they are doing in Vanguard at the moment.

Vanguard will get more subs over time just like EQ2's population went up heaps after a time.

Just to let you know, you aren't considering the fact that EQ II had server merges a while ago due to low populations and they re-did the the way the"numbers" in the software display what is a low population vs. a medium population vs. full population.  Another words, back when the game came out, a full server was like 5k players and now they lowered the number to 2 or 3k so it appears there are more players and the servers have a higher population.  Wasn't sure if you knew these two details so I figure I would clue you in.

And just for fun, let us try to count all the servers in WoW...

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.

Their forums were full of haters, and still are.  The game was a pile of crap for about 2 years, and after about 100 expansions it is somewhat a resasonable game.

Um.. 3 expansions.. Well.. Three. close to 100.. I guess..
And, haters? The forums are fi lled with love and Everyone is helpful and nice.

You sure you're not talking about WoW which has had loads of content added, is filled with nutjobs, morons and .. umm.. twats?

I believe Vanguard will gain more subs just like EQ2 did eventually, and yeah the servers on EQ2 do probably have different standards.

In all honesty, I made this thread out of boredom :P

Let us hope that SoE can breath life back into Vanguard.

Are there enough subscriptions on EQ 2 to sustain both MMO?

The most serous problems EQ2 had were fixed in the DoF expansion 10 months after release. It was a so-so expansion content wise but it got the basic mechanics in order and has been what the EQ2 dev team has been building on ever since. EQ2 has been steadily improving since then and had been a top quality game for some time it’s just taken a while for some people to notice.

Whether you like it or not, WoW does enter the picture because a big reason why people are taking another look at EQ2 is because they are under-whelmed with TBC.

Don't worry about the trolls and haters. They're just mad because after 3 years we have an awesome game and now THEY'RE stuck with crap (A pile of dung, so to speak).

I liked EQII for what it was. If it had a larger world and a better mix of content type I'd love it. But just like WoW it's all about gear and grind. On top of that, their maps were so small up until the latest expansion. Playing on a server with about 2k people would be fun, but I like the massive side of MMOs if the mechanics aren't anything special.

lol , yea look at the eq2 forums than at the wow forums and lets see which one has more positive threads Vs negative. And honestly eq2's forums are the best i seen there is no nerf this and nerf that.
