Beta questions...

in Aion

Looking good !  but is this currently a closed beta?  The eye-candy looks great, but its eye-candy that GETS you playing, supportability and content that KEEPS you playing.

Anyone in beta that can clue us in as to depth / emersion, GUI controls, camera abilities (first vs. third person), etc?  Some game mechanics info would be interesting...

    No, there is no beta yet.  They have said they are aiming for a summer beta, but you never know. Keep in mind that this is being developed in Korea, so we tend to get information a bit later in English (so far). And while they are aiming for a simultaneous global release, that does not mean the beta will start at the same time globally.

    So far the game looks like it will be adapted to meet the needs of westerners, meaning we'll probably get third and first person view, highly customizable characters at creation, player housing, quests and PvP, which is mostly RvR but there will also be an arena. And the place called the Abyss where the RvR will take place will be a PvP area the rest of the time, where the two warring factions can duke it out.

    There's also crafting and a player based economy, the world will change and form according to the players' choices which means you might get a slighlty different experience from server to server. The classes are quite typical, ranger, priest, warrior and wizard, but they will branch out later on. We've been told recently that wizards at one point can summon elemental creatures. Speaking of elements, the natural environment is supposed to have impact on your stats like FFXI, if it's raining you'll have a hard time using fire spells ect..

    And last but not least, actual free flight, and you can fight while flying so I'm expecting this to be a dynamic experience unlike let's say CoH flying. Well I hope that helped you out a bit ;)

    Still have to remember that its NCsoft who is developping the game, so its kinda random when you get some information out of them.

    True.  Meteor strikes are easier to predict compared to information releases about this game.

    sadly thats true aswell :)

     

    Dont forget.. if you plan to play AION once it comes out.. the customer service is not NCSoft strongest side.. wich is both good and bad :(

     

    Good cuz all those players that whine about other players rarely get heard!

    Bad cuz.. sometimes the petetitions is true, and should be heard! :(

    Well so far the NCsoft english community representatives that visit Aionsource have been top notch. Very friendly and they pop up to answer questions all on their own once in a while. So hopefully they will keep this trend and hire quality GM's and customer service reps, but even so early on they are starting on the right foot imo.

    hopefully this game will be as good as it looks and hopefully EU and US servers are combined and im soo happy about the free-flightlol... the game looks reall! great and and does anyone know any sites where i can see each class and have their NAMES WITH THEM im fed up off pics without discriptions...plz help ive seached everywhere.

    I'm recommending a system upgrade for this game to fully enjoy it. Personally I'll be switching to a brand new computer from my 3-year old one (it was upgraded many times, but still). 2x GFX card solution is the way to go~~ ;)

    Well the problem is they haven't announced all the classes yet. We have only seen four of them (Ranger, Wizard, Fighter, and Priest) and the class names might be changed anyway.

    I am really looking forward to this title. It seems like its headed in the right direction. The aspect of pvp during flight is something i simply cant pass by and i love the art thats ingame so far. Im a huge fan of L2s art concept (played it for 2 yrs) and though this game is a completely different title it seems to be similar in art style. Another cool concept is the fact that were not dealing with orcs/elves/blah blah in this game; but rather angels and demons. The dragons will be the NPC faction which will weigh in during castle sieges randomly showing up and supporting either side or simply take on both.

    On the customer service aspect, i may be alone in this but in 4 years of dealing with NC games ive never had a personal complaint about them. Though i do know people irl who have. But imo i do feel like over the years theyve started to listen to their community more and more.

    Since yesterday ive seen and read A LARGE ammount of information and media on Aion and personaly i can see that the game is going to be great and i mean GREAT!!!! for a broad idear on what  gameplay is like i recomend you watch this whole vid and be sure to watch it all   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1LeEpB52o8  it shows u some of the specs on a few of the characters, and i hope it helps, i did find a site which had a 8min video of gameplay AND it had gameplay of free flight AND free flight fighting BUT i must say it looks AMAZING if i do find the site again ill post soon, if anyone knows the vid im describing and the site its on lol  plzzzzzzzz remind me :)

    Someone hold me, i'm slightly nervous with anticipation of an actually new and original game! I really hope this game turns out to be something special and a "non-wow cookie-cutter".

    Thats what a Rep. Said at the E3 2006, I enjoyed the gameplay, and im looking forward to the release, ill update Mmorpg.com of any news that gets to me as soon as i can!

    Is this game going to be anything like the game called Perfect World? Cause so far from what I have seen Aion doesn't have a pet system, a marriage system, or even well not the same concepts that the game Perfect World has.

    This game isn't based off Perfect World so i'm not supprized they don't have similar game play functions like marriage and pets. Its possible they can add it later, but as much as I like the pet system in perfect world, I dont think games should copy eachother in such a way. Uniqueness is what sells games like this.

    Also, theres so little information out about AION that you cannot make any assumptions on what game its like or its just another asian grind fest. (I know u didnt say that just example)  But, I'm betting the AION will not be like anything thats on the market yet.  It might have some of the charactoristics of Lineage2, and if it does, its going to be a whole level up.  This game is a step-up from any MMO out there.

    What this game has to offer that others dont is matter of speculation.  Sometimes people find different things in different games.  But to truly understand what separates Aion from other games you must first play it, so until closed and open beta start u will just haverto wait.

    Well now that this post has been pulled up from May of 2007, can I ask is there's any news regarding any sort of beta? I thought I read one somewhere about a Korean one. =)

    Korean closed beta starts on Oct. 31, no word as of yet as to when international testing will start.
