EQOA

nowarrantynowarranty Member Posts: 75
I was wondering, I really liked EQ online adventures for PS2, and I can't really find a game that I like as much. I think I'm one of the few that enjoy grinding, and I'm not really a fan of questing all day every day. I don't like the style of WoW or LOTRO and was wondering if this would be better. EQOA had a bad grind at least up to lvl 30, and was wondering how this game compares.

Thanks.

this game is seriously a grinder (which I enjoy). I have the 360 version and after about 10 days the game was more boring then anything. So I am in LotRO which is amazing.

The graphics really are bad, even worse then EQOA which are fairly colorful and fit. FFXI i found the graphics dull and boring in each city with floaty animations.

Quests are ok, but bland at times, fun at other times. They are standard, and could be better written for sure.

The economy is wacked, and insane. Low level spells costing 1500-2000 gil when your lucky to make that in a full day of grinding.  The economy is one part I really hated, especially when a +1 sword costs 19000 gil. Totally wacked.

The music is very annoying and I had it off. Sound effects are ok, but nothing special until level 20 is when I noticed sounds for spells, zones, etc were getting good.

Overall it is a very bad game.

    Playing EQ2

Yeah if I got it it would be for 360. Only 20 bucks too.

I bought LOTRO, I'm lvl 13 but I can't decide if I like it or not.

You still play eqoa? How does the game compare to the way it was like 3 or 4 years ago? Dead? I think I had more fun in Diablo II, besides that, I think EQOA was some of the most fun I've ever had in a game, even though I didn't get most of my chars above lvl 10. I bought EQ2 hoping it would be a similar experience but I was disappointed. Another thing I loved about EQOA was the amount of exploration. You explore, find a new waypoint, then you can travel back and forth whenever free. None of the other games seem to have that amount of freedom.

I think I have kind of simliar feelings as you about MMO's, although I never got to play EQ:OA (really wanted to.. but didn't start looking into it till it sounded like it was kind of dead.. still kind of want to try it if servers are even up).  But in EQ the thing I liked was how open and unconstricting the world seemed in alot of ways and the grinding was fun because it made things like high lv players or epics just really wow me (granted some of that had to do with my first time playing an mmo also).

Since EQ I have tried and enjoyed to some extent, SWG, WoW, EQ2, DAOC and a few others for short stints.  And most of them (probably DAOC the least but its kind of old) had some problem... in SWG it was kind of fun, but never really alot of interesting areas to visit or good grouping.. WoW well not that much grouping and instances and always on the move (if grinding) made it rather dull for me eventualy (although I still enjoyed pvping and still play the game occasionaly) and EQ2 is kind of in the same boat.. and also everything seems to be a PoI in EQ2 to the point where you never feel like you are really in the middle of nowhere (and combat is.. well less than desirable).

That brings me to more recently.  I tried out LoTR online with the open beta and it seemed interesting, but I personaly just couldnt get into so many instances and different little areas.. still found some interesting parst (and admittely didnt put alot of time into it), but it wasnt exactly what i was looking for.  And other than that I have been playing Vanguard (I highly expect to get spammed for saying anything like this but hey).  Now you need a good computer (I run a 3 something ghz processor 1.5 gb of RAM and a 7900 GT card and it runs well enough and looks nice), but it certainly has that open feeling I have been looking for and grouping is pushed in alot of areas.. finding a group isnt always easy and there are a ton of quests (lots of solo which can be pretty boring).. but the big thing for me is just this absolutely open world with tons of areas for all lvs on the continents and as I lv up more and more (31 atm), the adventuring areas are just getting better and better and I really love the dungeons (and video on raid dungeons looks neat /shrug if into that).

Now I really don't know a ton about EQ:OA, but from what you had to said this may interest you.. although im sure its not exactly what you want, and also from my little bit of FFXI time.. it defiantly is a grind (was done soloing sooo fast), but something about how it looked and how i moved and combat and everything.. just made me feel outside the game, though i know people that loved it too!

Graphics are not bad in this game, but you won't find those sharp cartoon colors you see in games like WoW.

Quests are NOT "standard" in this game. This game does not have  quests like "kill 20 of those mobs and get this weapons/equipment" like you see in most other games.

Low lvl spells cost from 62 gil - here's the price list for the magic shop in Bastok Markets:

Do not consider weapons/equipments as a "cost". What you buy, you can later sell, sometimes you earn a little more than you paid, sometimes it's the other way around. All in all, I consider weapons/equips as a "loan". There are exceptions, like so-called "rare/ex" items, which can't be sold, but you didn't pay for them in the first time either.

Btw, "a full day of grining" at low lvls would give you several stacks of crystals, flints, etc. If you only got 1500-2000 gil for that, I guess you sold them to vendors... haha!

The music is very annoying and I had it off. Sound effects are ok, but nothing special until level 20 is when I noticed sounds for spells, zones, etc were getting good.

A matter of taste. Personally I think music is ok in low lvl areas, and later some tunes are just fantastic, like in The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah.

Overall it is a very bad game.

    I totally disagree!

    Lord of the Rings Online

    Everquest Online Adventures

Quit - EQ, EQ2, EvE, FFXI, DAoC, TitD, AO, AC1, AC2, AA, CoH, CoV, D&L, DS, DDO, EA, GW, HZ, IW, L1, L2, M59, UO, MoM, MoUL, N2, RS, RO, RoE, RYL, SB, SO, SWG, MxO, UO, VSoH, WoW

If you quit all those games, you'll be out of LOTRO too, and very very soon... Seems you're a difficult person to please.

I too love the grind. I've been waiting for something similar to EQOA to release for years, but i havent.
