supposedly there are a number of actual constellations in it, or at least that was a rumor in beta. Any Astronomer types can verify or deny?

The stars are the constellations just as you can see from England. The devs stated that somewhere (and this would also be true to Tolkien lore).

Wow...i played in beta but never noticed that at all...I like how they try to make LOTRO as detailed as can be. I cant wait to get this computer upgraded and come back to the game.

According to the new PCGamer article (June 2007) The night sky is (stars and such) is how you actually see it from England.

from what i read on the main site, they say the constellation is supposed to be how it looked from Tolkien's own window (so yea, the constellation in England basically)

It looks amazing, I wasn't a fan of the beta 1 one sky or beta 2 sky, but the definitely spent a little time for the release sky

FYI: If you live on an east west axis roughly Calgary, Liverpool, Berlin, Northern Ukraine, Mongolia you see very much the same sky that is in the game.

Yeah, you can see the big and little dipper, Orion (western sky I think...) and some others that are there.  Very cool I think.
