Best Game for SWG refugees?

Heyas folks I was hoping Vanguard will be my salvation but I'm getting ready to jump ship before it goes under.  Any suggestions on games refugees should look out for?

SWG is ready to bounce back with Ch 6 and beyond.

Also, I think VG will be a great game in less than a year. Time will tell.

Chapter 6 has alot of players excited. Stick with it. There really is nothing else out there. Im playing LOTRO and its not only a clone of warcraft, that offers nothing new. If you havent played other MMOs before and jump into LOTRO it WILL be a shock to your system.

If you miss SWG then logically the best thing to do is give SWG another try.

Unless you can think of another game that you have multiple planets to adventure on, Starship combat,  ground vehicles, crafting more involved then games like WoW or LotR's, customization that is still one of the best, meaningful PvP.... let us know. BUT if you go into SWG expecting to find the old SWG....then you are going to be disappointed.

Vanguard is going to be a long salvaging process....personally I think SOE taking them over is the best thing that could have happened to those knotheads at Sigil as the game is a complete mess but thats not exactly comforting lol..........

If not that, Ryzom is probably next in line. Many vets have gone there.

    Really?

i though you could loot/quest better than what crafters can make (other than houses and basic decoration)

P.S. not saying that its not better than WoW, i would not know i only played WoW for 1 month...then canceled

I agree with most here, SWG is still the game most like old SWG, but I know many players who have found homes in quality games like Ryzom and EvE, both have systems of great depth and their communities for the most part are very mature. Personally I think both are graphically stunning as well. They are not SWG though, just good solid games that can be quite fun to play.

Other games I have seen people move on to and stick with are Anarchy Online, World of Warcraft, and EQII.

I am currently playing Second Life and SWG (once a month per new chapter).

I am waiting to see what becomes of Tabula. I was excited about it at one point but they seem to have stripped most of what drew me a year ago. I still plan to give it a chance. Face of Mankind? I'l wait for some reviews, but it "looks" good.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

The only stuff that is better as quest rewards then crafted is weapons.  Anything else is made better by a crafter or can only be obtained by a crafter.  Not only that, but new craftables are being introduced with each chapter now.  Chapter 5 started it, chapter 6 includes a whole new range of BM related components for each crafting profession and Chapter 7 is sounding like it too will contain another batch of new craftables.

So yes, crafting still plays a rather important part in SWG.

Obriak is correct about the crafting. No way is looted armor & clothing better than what crafters can make.

To add one point to Obriaks post. You can actually have crafted weapons that are right up there with alot of  the looted weapons. However they are crafted in the cube and the retrofitted with a socket and then you can add all your +35 mods and attach powerups.

Crafting is slightly being brought back. It is in no way comparible to how it existed pre-cu. As stated, starship items, armor and clothing can be better then looted items. But what impact does +2 points to a stat realy have?
    Weapons are still loot dependant.

Explain please. Not sure I fully understand the statement I marked in red. In game now crafted armor and clothing for the most part are by far better than looted armor and clothing. And I'm not exactly sure what your refering to about the +2 points? Are you refering to mods on clothing or something else?

I wouldn't call the Chu-Gon-Dar cube crafting :P  You also can't retrofit Bio-linkable objects (or shouldn't be able to...) such as what the cube makes.

Unless you're talking about the schematics for the weapons you can make in the cube.  Those are truly craftable weapons, but they're still not as good as the loot items...usually at least 50 DPS off the quested variety.  It depends on what you're out to achieve though, some people need the extra mod to compliment their chest peice and breastplate mods so they're prepared to take a damage reduction to achieve that.

Did I say anything about loot vs crafted? Didn't think so. If you want to argue that SWG crafting is on the same level as WoW as my statement said, fine but don't drag in subjects not touched on. I'll leave the expertise to people like Obraik

    One other thing

Housing - second to none. Chew on that.

I played SWG from the beginning, but WOW is definately a superior game, now that I've played it for six months.

I'm considering dropping SWG altogther .

I'm finding that I don't actually like bugs that have existed from the start of the game and have never been fixed, imagine that!

I would say LOTRO. Me myself think that the looks of the game are very interesting. I would definitely try it if i didnt pay for 2 MMO's and a server already. Other problem would be im short of time cause of it all lol.

Too many games + a life (for whats it worth ) = no time for other really

Just out of curiousity, why are you asking this here? If you don't want to play SWG, fine...go ask some other games what to play.

    General Discussion perhaps?

    SWG Current

Crafted items will improve. Weapons are the only thing equal to crafted - but that is sure to be addressed in the near future. People just want to see SWG fail. Funny that it's sure to bounce back by the look of things. I love having the last laugh.

Avoid SWG, small team of devs that work on it are valiently trying, but they don't have the funds to ressurrect it.  It will just bring you more grief.  Besides the servers are empty, I was on Starsider last night and saw 5 people in an hour, in the cities no less.  When they remove all the dead houses the game is going to look horrid.

If you like Sci-Fi take a good look at Tabula Rasa.  Richard Garriot knows this industry better than most.

Personally I play Eve.  While it lacks the ground action, it has great space action.

    EVE.

When SOE did the CU two years ago, I cancelled my account and vowed never to play any game by SOE ever again.  I tried EVE and was amazed how polished and unbuggy it seemed compaired to SWG.  Two years later and I'm still playing EVE.  I'm almost thankful that SOE screwed SWG up so bad, cause if they didn't I might not have found EVE.

I give alot of kudos to sony for biting the bullet and doing what needed to be done.

Pre NGE SWG had turned into a paradise only for the uber guilds and farmers.

prices of force crystals, grinding to jedi, death of the entertainer class

Since NGE me, wife and friends are having alot more fun, more relaxed

and the latest loving for entertainers and the new pet/beast stuff is awsome.

Alot may have left but alot stayed and respect sony for doing what hadto be done

I don't think it's called biting the bullet...  I think it went more like:

SOE execs: WoW has millions of subscribers and SWG only has a few 100k.  You guys obviously screwed up.  You have 2 months to make this game like WoW or you're all fired.

I'm talking about the CU too, not the NGE, I didn't stick around to see how far down the crapper they took the game after that.

    Mission accomplished!

SWG has easily doubled it's population since the NGE went in and it looks like it will pass the million player mark by years end ( at the very least ) and is seems upstoppable now.

I fully expect it to exceed WoW's population in a year or two, given the massive buzz regarding the NGE.

That must be why everyone complains of empty servers and why mmorpgchart.com shows the population nose diving since 05.

Mmorpgchart has never been accurate at all.

And it's the haters always complaining about empty servers - you'll note that several posters have reported full, busy servers.
