I don't make it a practice to criticize the recently deceased.

I just hope that he is in a better place, as I wish that for everyone.  A place where things make sense for him.

Wasnt he as far away from a good christian as you can possibly get?

From what I heard and read, ( wich may not be much ), if there is a heaven and hell he is very unlikley to be in the former?

I would like to wish his version of the afterlife was just 1 huge, neverending, male orgy......but I have a feeling he would have wanted it that way.

Being a conservative christian myself, Rev Jerry Falwell gave Christianity a bad name (just as Rev Al Sharpton gives Civil Rights a bad name).

That man was very condemning. Even against other christians. He once compared Billy Graham (the most respected Christian in America) as  the Chief Servant of Satan in America. Said the purple Telli tubbie was gay, said that a Jew will more than likely be the Anti Christ, called Jimmy Baker a cancerous tumour on the body of christ and then proceeded to beat a down man even harder.

Matter of fact here are a few quotes by him:

The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country”

    If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being”

    Textbooks are Soviet propaganda”

..throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools, the abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked and when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad...I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who try to secularize America...I point the thing in their face and say you helped this happen."”

“[homosexuals are] brute beasts...part of a vile and satanic system [that] will be utterly annihilated, and there will be a celebration in heaven

Grown men should not be having sex with prostitutes unless they are married to them”

I respect the man due to his death. Im sorry for his family but he, in my opinion, was a modern day Pharasie. He condemned everyone. Including fellow christians. The man didnt wear a bullet proof vest everyday folks for the heck of it. There's a reason why he did...and many people just dont go out and shoot Pastors.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

  • I'm glad he's dead. Back when I was a devout Christian his antics disgusted and distressed me. I wondered how such a lunatic, who was never any better than a crazed street preacher, managed to get such power, and such wealth. Nothing about him was Christian or Christ-like. The Christianity I knew taught me to love, taught me to tolerate differences, taught me to love my fellow humans even as they hurt me. Christ taught me compassion, forbearance, forgiveness, mercy, and love. None of these things can be applied to this man.

Now that I am no longer a Christian, I feel fine in saying that I hate this man, and will gleefully dance on his grave if given the chance. I hope he suffered as he died, and I hope he felt fear. Fear that his life had really been spent in service to evil and not good, and fear that the God who's name he tarnished was perhaps as inflexible and unforgiving as he had always preached. I'm glad the old bastard is dead, and feel confident his crew of maggots will be busy feasting on the corpse he left for a generation. This was one of the creators of the 'religious-right' and the slew of travesties spawned in God's name. This was the man who stepped on the idea of seperate church and state for selfishness and greed, only to gain further power. This was a man who looked at the teachings of Jesus Christ, the teachings of compassion and love, and threw them away to preach the word of intolerance and hatred and condemnation.

I hate Falwell, and I suspect that this hatred is a far more familiar emotion to Falwell than love ever was. Perhaps that's sad for me, but I no longer care. Which gives me a leg up on this man. Falwell never cared.

Man...You need help. I've had contempt for some politicians and those I disagreed with, but hoping they suffered and were afraid as they died...

It really makes you no better than him.

Well I do have one thing going for me, I'm honest. I don't come to you claiming to be holier or better. I'm a mean-spirited, bitter, hateful person and a sadist to boot. So was Jerry Falwell, but he claimed to have some kind of direct line to heaven. He was ever the hypocrite.

Besides, my faith tells me it's okay to hate people and enjoy their deaths, Falwell's did not. At least I'm honest.

    It doesn't matter, I don't tell because I don't want any converts.

The point is, whatever you might think of me, Jerry Falwell was not in any way a decent human being. He was a nut, a nut who should have been ranting on a street corner somewhere instead of heading a massive religious coalition. Do you know why people even gave him the time of day? Because he appealed to the basest level of humanity, he appealed to people's hatred and fear and dislike of things that were different. His followers were so damn afraid of everything he preached against that they forgot what they were worshipping.

Is Christ not the Prince of Peace? Is the Christian God not the God of love and forgiveness? This man built an empire from hate and the obsession with one way of life, the one true correct way according to his eyes.

Christians like that seem like satanists to me.  Christ taught of unconditional love, acceptance, and forgiveness.  These modern day preachers are intolerant, judgemental, and offensive.  They seem to be doing satans work not christs work.

You're asking the wrong question. It's not about faith, but rather a overwhelming lack thereof. In humans, rather than the big G, that is.

Watch enough of human waste like Jerry Falwell or Fred Phelps spreading their message of intolerance under the guise of Christianity, or any other religion, for that matter.

Watch enough of your own species behaving like thorns, digging into each other, trying to draw blood for no reason other than to draw blood.

Watch enough people walk on the bent backs of others to further themselves, or their own agendas.

At some point you will reach a special place. A place where it dawns on you that the human race just isn't worth the effort. At that point you come to the realization that, yes, you really would push the button if given the chance to erase humankind from the Earth.

Not, mind you, that I presume to know what Sawtooth is trying to say, or how he feels, or whatever. But I got a pretty damned good idea.

Its too bad falwell cant rest in peace. I was hoping with his passing that his ideas would slowly disappear with his memory. I guess we can thank his enemies for kicking the dead horse around so his followers will never forget and seek to carry on his fight. ugh..

    Now there's some assbackwards logic.

Just because Falwell bought the farm, you think those that agreed with his ideas would just go back to standing about chewing their cud, like idle little sheep, if only those dirty heathen, unbelieving, jew and faggot lovers would shut the hell up???

Good news, folks! If you don't fight back against bigoted, cowardly fascists, they'll go away of their own accord! I bet if we all just went back into our sexual, and/or intellectual closet(s), why the US would turn into a totally secular state overnight.

Right, just like if a bully is beating you up you shouldn't fight back, because that would just make him hit you harder?

Falwell was frequent and blaring with his denouncements in life, the least we can do is give him like treatment in death.

The real tragedy is I can only light half of my fireworks tonight. The other half I'm saving for Pat Robertson's death, which I assure you all I will celebrate just as gleefully.

Incidently, when Pope John Paul II passed, a man whose policies I frequently and vehemently disagreed with, I mourned. Because, whatever his policies, I believed he was a good man. Just to show you that I'm not a raving anti-Christian lunatic. Understand that Falwell was a shadow of a Christian. He gave lip service to the Bible and the deity, but he didn't follow the principles. Whether or not he had faith is irrelevant to me, he was an evil man and I'm glad he's dead.

I'm sure he can rest easy knowing that the Christian voice of the moral majority will carry on the fight for equality... just as long as certain people stay more equal than others.

I guess I need to be more clear. I ment that the man is gone. The fight against the ideas continue but why give wait to a man that brought power to them. Dont fuel the fire or whatever. Hate the sin not the sinner if you believe such.

Two reasons. First, so that his followers can't turn him into a martyr. Second, because I am not a Christian anymore and no longer care about forgiveness. I don't want to forgive that man, he's done horrific damage to Christianity and the United States. I do not need to respect him, either, just because he led a religious organization. He was a scumbag, and that's how I'll remember him....that and him telling the country that it was gays, feminists, and the ACLU that caused 9/11.

    Again, I'm glad he's dead.
