I remember lot of doom and gloom when Ryzom was sold but I still see people play this game...has it went for better or worse since to change of owners?
Most of the doom and gloom came about a month after the change of ownership, I think, when the service and servers contract shifted rather suddenly and we lost the CSRs we were used to and familiar with, causing quite a lot of resentment. The new owners, GameForge, have been gradually building up a new team of CSRs, though, and the dust has long since settled. We've seen a gradual flow of measured little developments, mostly to make things a little easier for newcomers to get started, none of which could tip the game balance, and all of which are reassuring because it's obvious that GameForge are developing the game. Not without problems, though, as you can see by the threads here and on the Ryzom technical forum concerning difficulties with downloading and installing the game client. They have also merged the two English language shards, partly to change the one with the lower population into a Portuguese language shard, in time.
So, since the change of ownership, I have to say that things have improved overall. Naturally, opinions may be divided over each development, and we all cry out for things we each would prefer to see implemented, but it's good to see things moving forward. I think the population on the English language shard was on the up even before the two shards were merged (that's only my own impression), and the atmosphere ingame is very good, and broadly expectant once again.
I went to Fileplanet and grabbed the free trial client. It took three hours to get but I was on the crappiest downloader. Hey, it is free to use and I am patient. After you do that, you have to edit one line (StartupHost must read "rslogin.juk.shards.nevrax.com:40916") in one of the program files (CFG file called"client_default") because I guess the server destination is different now. You launch and get some patching for about half hour.

I've tried absolutely everything I can think of. Unblocked ports, removed firewall...even tried a new internet connection. It doesn't work. Besides, it shouldn't be me who has to go out of my way to download the game. It should be the devs going out of their way to fix the downloader. I would like to try the game but I'm not wasting my time anymore.

The game is going fine, with some nice bug fixes in the works and also some upgrades to ranged fighting planned. Rumors of the demise of Ryzom are exaggerated
Would be nice to know the status of the Saga, however... that seems to be AWOL at the moment
About the linked to petition in the post above, as far as I can tell this is just a player trying to get back at the GMs for being banned. I would not put much credit into what is said in the petition.
This is also not the way to report a GM to the Devs, there is an e-mail you can use to report any problems you have with a GM. They take all the reports sent in seriouly and look into them. Bringing your problem into the public is not the right way to deal with this.

The intentions of that petition is not to discredit ryzom as a great game or to get a certain players ban revoked, there is no denying that what he did warranted a serious action.
The petition is designed ONLY to get certain events and CSR looked into, your an old player and you should know tyd CSRed for jolt and got himself into trouble, not going into details on here its not fair. I dont want ryzom to go anywhere or its reputation as a great game to be effected, but these things need to be looked into.
Yes there is a way of reporting GMs to gameforge and devs which will be done along with the result of the petition, do you really think the people responcible for the petition do not have significant proof for these allegations.
I would also like to add that personally i am not responcible for the petition, but i have spoken with them, and i considered the points raised very serious.

If fired you mean let go/discharged and thusly not allowed back, he was well present all the way up to the last hour with Turenkarn, Sengosha, and a few others. I remember attending that r2 thingiy they had and then a handful stayed in Yrk waving everyone bye bye. The only gm I knew who left or was fired was Tiggs.

Not really the place for this, but feel free to talk to me ingame, you seem to know alot about what happened so you'll know that he got himself into trouble on a few occasions. I ONLY wants things investigated, i dont want people shouting around rumors, my aim to make sure its done in the best way so people take it seriously, without damaging the reputation of a game i love, i only want to improve it by making sure there is no unfair or bias in the CSRing in ryzom.

If you dont agree then fair enough, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, the thing is its a petition not a forum it's for people to vote saying they agree, and add a comment if they like. (thats what i was told)

Posting proof does not help as it is up to gameforge to any actions they see fit, i like playing ryzom and anything posted to discredit csr would not put me in a good position.
The way of stopping this "whining" is simple, vote we get gameforge to look into it, as well as proof sent to them and they take action as they see fit, that way people can truly be left feeling happy, if they dont then you can say all you like that they are just a whiner
I honestly want this to be taken seriously and do it the "propper" way, posting on forums moaning is not the solution, and i regret being dragged into it, i just wanted to point out that altho some people are clearly using this as a personal vendetta ALOT of us consider it as serious and just want closure on it, one way or another, this can only be achieved by gameforge looking into it and posting their findings and actions.

So, since the change of ownership, I have to say that things have improved overall. - They have introduced casinos in capital cities that work as a money sink for the ricjh and help tostabilize the economy
- They have looked into a number of bugs and fixed them
- they have drastically improved the crafting system, making it only a little bit easier but a hell of a lot more logical
- They are now working on 1h melee and even new options for melee crafters
The way they treatthe game we are starting to see that they are serious people and respect the initial design + listen to the players.
All in all I think the change was for the better.
try a bit harder,If you havent (turn off your firewall, antivirus or wathever...check the forums to) i had the same problem and now it work just fine.
