Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

I go in school... So I surf mmorgp.com and every other boring site on the internet while telling my teacher I'm doing what I'm supposed to.
I get to play so many different roles in one class period that it would make your head spin. And it's not like I get to just repeat first period 7 times a day. No, each class has its own dynamic, so it's not like I get to apply the same rules to each one. And then there's the individual learning styles of each kid in there that I have to identify and then develop a strategy for. You ever try to discover the individual mechanics of just one kid? Now imagine doing that with 148 of them when you see them for 52 minutes (but not alone), 5 times a week.
But I take my job very serious. Maybe too serious. But no child in my class is ever going to leave not having learned something and every one of them is going to leave having had their perspective about their role in society changed.
I don't get paid much for that though. And I get to put up with a lot of b.s. from people who like to take their frustrations out on teachers. You wouldn't even begin to believe some of the crap I have heard from people who think they understand everything there is to know about education but in reality couldn't stand doing my job for a week or less. And the little stabs you have to take from people who feel it's such a safe activity to poke fun at teachers. Yet they still send their kids to public schools (go figure). Ever listen to talk radio in the morning? I do, on the way to work. And I get to hear all about the "stupid teachers", the "greedy teachers who want a pay raise", and the "incompetent liberal scum that fills our schools positions".
And on top of all that I get to pay tons of money each year on stuff like maintaining my credentials and liability insurance. Not to mention supplies for kids who's parents don't care enough to give them things like a notebook, mapping pencils, or regular writing utensils. And then when I give them the supplies, I get to watch them treat what I've given them like crap. But I don't get mad at them one bit, because I know it's their parents who have never taught them any form of respect for what they are given.
It's a frustrating job that I wonder about every day. But for some reason I stick with it and I actually try harder than when I first started. I admit that I don't understand that. Maybe I'm crazy because I'm sure 99.9% of the people in the world would never do what I do for the little pay that I get. But something in the back of my head keeps telling me that maybe someday one of those kids will grow up and make a difference using something I taught them. Something that they never would have gotten if they had not been in my class.
I could easily get a higher paying job. Double or even tripled what I'm making right now. Hell, I've even had offers and turned them down. There is a good reason why over 60% of teachers have quit before 5 years. That's a telling statistic. And I've seen the breakdowns. I've seen good folks give up and leave after just 2 years, sometimes less.
But I've been doing this for nearing a decade.
Maybe I am crazy.
I really enjoy my new job and even though its Sunday morning here Im about to risk burning in hell for the Nth time in my life by doing some work I brought home.
Im currently the QA/Risk Management Officer for a company called Pickering Transport Group. We run over 200 prime movers worth around $400,000 each with associated infrastructure in 4 states of Oz. I also handle staff training and goods lost or damaged in transit. To say my job is something different everyday is a gross understatement. Im responsible for the quality system of the 3 branches in 2 states and my counterpart does the others.
Im enjoying it more every day and I feel (to address the topic) I REALLY earn my cash. In fact I think I unsersold myself a bit when I took the job and that Im gonna sting em for a raise once I have been there 12 months.

Officially it's pharmacy tech. I do dispense heart, blood pressure, and antibiotic medications, it's true. But I also get to dispense Oxycodone, Methadone, Morphine, Hydromorphone, and Xanax to an endless stream of drug addicts. While there are some who truly need these medicines, I no longer believe that most of them do.
On the subject of the heart, blood pressure, etc. meds I dispense, it's usually to some unpleasant old man or crazy rude old woman. Generally I hate 95% of the people that come to my pharmacy, because they're scum. I used to think that was odd, but then I realized I hate most of the population of the city I live in, so it stands to reason that a cross section of that population would be equally hated. So the math works out.
Bottom line, I hate my job and am only working there while I go through college. Then I run away screaming and laughing and never look back.
i aam also a part time coach (speed skating) its not like soccer where any one can volunteer to play, it requires endless courses (that the fee comes from my pocket) andendless supplies (again fees from my pocket) and i dont get payed much, not enough to cover my expenses to coahc... it barely covers my gas to get there...
but i do the same thing but not with supplies, but with food. some of the children dont even have enough to eat in the morning, so i always bring a breakfast and a snack every saturday morning... i know its not as much as you but i dont have that much to start with either. im a graduating college student and will be off to start my universtiy that will most probably cost me an arm and possibly a leg...
P.S. i have to give credit to my parents who have supported me all the way and are helping me with what they can aford, i pay them VERY CHEAP rent and pay for my share of food... which is considerably less than if i would live on my own. i cant thank them enough for that... (and those who say to be a man and be independent and go live on your own, STFU, i dont have to worry of IF im going to eat tonight or that i have a final exam but i also need to work a double shift to pay appartment and concentrate 100% on studies and do well in them)
THANKS MOM/DAD
So your a teacher? Lovely job ain't it? What age are your students?
As I go on school, I'll have to say that you do a terrible job if the students are half as annoying as those in my school. In school you do everything except what the teacher tells you, if we are going to watch movie A, someone starts up movie B, and the otherway round.
I'm a serious student, but some other persons just do everything they can to piss off the teachers. One person has never handed in any homework. Isn't teenagers lovely?
ATM, I am at the front desk of an hotel.
I take call, I answer clients, I charge room, I sell rooms...it is a job that requires constant attention, but little efforts. Yeah I kinda work significantly, but nothing to get sick or exhausted. It is a smooth job, not that thrilling, but I can do that for years without much stress, in fact, it calm me and help me be more balanced in life.
I was a Game Designer not long ago...and that was stressfull. I took 50 lbs in a year (20 gone in a year since30 more to remove), the company, Sarbakan, is great and the folks there are great. They want me to stay with them and all; but I am not sure I did understand what they want me to change and since my health was going downhill, I just take my responsability and move on. Did lot of fun things, games and all...eh, they made like 130 games a year...not big, but you get to see tons of stuff there, and you get to be involved directly in soooo many project...and still get a glimpse on almost every game they made. Not even addressing all the beta testing offer on week-end they keep doing for the game. Great souvenirs and memories, but was too stressfull. Go visit Nick.com and guess which games where made there if you want to see for yourself.
I was a HighSchool teacher *poke Reavo*, but I went rogue on the system after working 2 years in remote areas and all the changes they bring to the system. When they say that every kid have to succeed, no failure...I just quit (as a teacher you want them all to succeed, but you can't succeed for them, only help them). As a kid, the risk of failing was a driving goal...removing that risk is destroying everything, I didn't see how I could handle it with these changes, so I just move on. Having kids who "fails" but succeed and go to the next year cripple the whole system, I dunno what drugs the administrator of the public schools are on, but it is a rather potent and good one. I wish them luck, because these changes will cripple the whole system for 12 years AFTER they remove them (the time for a full cicle from grade 1 to college).
Back when I was a teen, I almost never did an homework at home, almost always complete them on lunch time or in other classes. If I was to "waste my time", might as well be productive about it and be done with it...all the maths homework I did during Arts, Moral and other such classes.

I don't earn much - but considering I get paid to learn and still live at home, it's more than enough.
