Any word on localization or servers?

Are they going to seperate servers and game versions for Europe, N. America etc?

This is a horrible trend in recent MMOs and goes a long way to my next choice in a game.

A worldwide community was one of the many things I loved. I do miss it.

Its hard when you travel a lot and have to choose a certain version and not be able to play with all of your friends.

They probably won't officially  make you separate. However in a fps every millisecond counts.so a player in austria most likely will ping at 200ms,the UK 125ms,a US player 50ms.

I recall in one of the Developer Interview Videos where the interviewer asked Gaute if the servers will be localized, and he responded "Yes, they will be, but people always find away around that".

Actually, I thought the devs would not force localization. That may have only been in regards to certain countries though. And whatever they have said before may change considering we have another 5 months to go!

This is an old quote from about December of 2006, but I don't belive Funcom is going to force people to play on certain servers. When I was playing Vanguard for a week there was a friend of mine that was playing in Norway on the same US server as me and he didn't experience anymore lag then I did.

The Anarchy Online servers are based in New York, however that doesnt mean that the Age of Conan ones will be there. For Age of Conan we plan on having multiple datacenters around the world.

The game will most likely be playable on any, but we will probably recommend that you play on the servers closest to your location to ensure the best online experience. Whilst we will be striving to make the game as playable as possible from 'anywhere' it is pretty safe to assume that you will get better performance from the servers closest to your geographical location. We also havent finalised our plans in regard of the different territories in terms of questions like 'can europeans play on american servers?'. There are several factors in that kind of decision that havent all come together yet and will be made closer to launch."

its not the lag that is the issue, its the ping time or latency of the connection.I can play Daoc just fine with people in austria, but thats becasue daoc isnt a fps type engine.Dreamworld will be and if you  ever played an fps ,1/10  to 2/10 of a second slower, its pretty lame.but if they wanna have high pings thats there perogative. Im hoping as in other fps games you will be able to see ping times in your group and just send the ones with a bad ping packing.

Norway isnt the best example for bad pings(im guessing norway can hit chicago in 105ms)Its the richest and most advanced country in europe per capita.Norway could hit a US server pretty good, since its not really the distance so much, since electrons travel at 316k miles per second. It's more the telecom infrastructure of the country.A good example is france they have bad pings yet are relatively close.Theres alot that goes into that, state run phone companies, union protection, poor routing, massive regulatory controls, ect.

There is a big move in europe in which the isp's want to monopolize service and content.I don't know the details but im sure a Euro poster

    would

another issue will be the devs have talked about  time windows for siege/resource attacks. These will obviously be based on geographic region.

so im not so sure  if say a Czek player wants to play 1am-7am gmt+1,with a 150ms+  ping times.

I made the mistake of of using the term Localization without being more specific.

I guess Im wondering more about restrictions to overseas players and server choices.

WoW is very hard on people if they want to play on a server not native to thier region. Im an american living in Norway with the majority of friends living in the US and Australia. When I was playing WoW it was a nightmare to play with friends on thier servers. The situations I came into there are ones I never expected in an MMO and would never like to experience again.

Localized servers are great, restrictions are bad.

Yeah I ping like 100-200 (to the US) depending on the day in Norway, it depends a lot on the quality of the server I am logging into. I have more issues in some games and less in others.

Oh and you can call Norway rich but please dont call them advanced. Itll go to thier heads...I wish I was kidding...*mumbles something about being stuck up*....

P.S. I posted the same topic but included other upcoming games in the general MMO forum. As I was curious about them as well

These will have to be good servers.so you got the ping.worst case you need a us version/key.so as far as your concerned you should be fine.only issue will be the resourse/keep attack window  which they will most likey have. Why do euros want on us servers so much,I can only imagine you want to kill us lazy americans.

As far as where the servers are, they'll be in Amsterdam and New York.

    • Managed hosting and infrastructure management

agreement for Age of Conan signed with IPsoft

    • IPsoft is a world class outsourced network- and

    systems infrastructure support company

    • IPsoft will host and operate the server parks in

    New York and Amsterdam

This was announed their Q1 Financial Report: http://www.newsweb.no/atmnt/070516-Q1-presentation.pdf?id=43522

I'm sure west coast players, and aussies are thrilled over that.Anyways that should get good pings thru most of western europe, based on that location.

I cant speak for all "euros" but Im an american living in europe and like to play with firends back in my old home.

From what I gather from a few recent games is that distrobution rights and server rights being sold to other companies like Codemasters. This  has lead to poor server performance and customer service. I was always aware of Euroe being the red headed step child when it game to gaming, but not til living here for the last 4 years have I seen the reality if it.

US servers being located in New York would give me a good ping :) Now as long as they dont make it next to impossible to pay and create a US acct Im cool and they dont ban overseasa IPs (WoW).

isnt there a cottage industry that redirects/changes ips for a fee.sending money to a relative to pay in the US would always work.Im sure a us credit card would.worst case get a western union prepaid cc. I truly believe that the subscription fees are gonna be gobbled to hard by royalties and high end server deals. Most of thier local barriers will be latency/ping,and siege windows based on timezones.
