New games and localization.

I just posted this in the AOC forums but then quickly realized I was curious about more games.

Tabula Rasa

Warhammer

Age of Conan

Are they going to seperate servers and game versions for Europe, N. America etc?

This is a horrible trend in recent MMOs and goes a long way to my next choice in a game.

A worldwide community was one of the many things I loved. I do miss it.

Its hard when you travel a lot and have to choose a certain version and not be able to play with all of your friends.

With the current broadband penetration in the world, especially the US and Europe.  There is no way Age of Conan and Tabula Rasa wouldn't be localized.  Twitch combat is just too dependant on latency, if the servers were located on West Coast USA for example; no one in Europe would be able to play these games because they're attacks are registering 2 seconds late.  I am pretty certain they will even go further into splitting the servers within large countries, like West Coast/East Coast US servers just to deal with the latency issue of twitch based games.

Warhammer might.  Infact it probably would be best they did since the main audience for WAR is from US and England.  But they probably also gonna seperate.

I could see your point on AOC and its combat but Tabula Rasa is a dice roll game still.

I am currently living in europe and all my games I play on US servers. I may be a lucky one but my latency is usually equal to the people in the US(I even have an avg connection). Someone else might like to chime in on thier experience with latency.

Since Ive been in Europe Ive played SWG, WOW and LOTRO on US servers. Im currently playing nothing, waiting on the 3 I mentioned in my OP.

I would at least like the option to choose without the companies making it hard on the ones of us that choose otherwise(Blizzard makes it very hard). Id love to play with friends back home and new friends in my area.

The days seem to be gone where I could log into AO, EQ,AC etc and play with people from Austrailia, Europe, Asia as well as people just down the street from me in Los Angeles. I should prolly just deal with it but it makes me sad, the community used to  be just as much fun as the game itself.

Edit: International servers where anyone around the world would be able to create chars. would make me happy. Its been many years but I seem to remember SWG having thier Euro servers and N. America servers listed side by side and it was up to you to choose.

    Plenty of FPS aren`t localized.

It`s all in how they build it.

Actually most older MMOs arent as well. Its just the recent bigger releases. Like the 3 Im curious about now.

Ive never played an FPS online, so its not my place to question how well they play over long distances.

Most big games (ones being made by major developers) are localized, im sure those 3 games you mention will be localized.

This method of dividing servers can be good and bad, It reduces lag but cuts the community in half, I'm wondering if new mmos will have servers meant for certain locations but not actually have any restrictions.

I guess I should have titled the post as "Server Restrictions". Thats mainly what Im on about here. Localized servers are great but restrictions are not.
