Join a Corp.

Yesterday I bumped into a group of people, in the noob corp, adamantly saying that corps were a waste of time and it was perfectly fine to stay in the noob corp for several years. "Corps aren't for everyone".

This strikes me as immensely shortsighted in a game such as Eve.

In Eve, a corporaiton is more than just a list of your buddies (though it often is comprised of people you grow to be friends with and even meet in RL), it is a collective unit that can work towards group goals. Its not like in WoW or wherever when if you work together its to achieve individual goals faster (eg new armor), about 2/3 the content in Eve is aimed at corporate or larger groups, particularly PvP, where it is possible to solo all game, but much more difficult/ arguably pointless to do so.

Don't get me wrong, most people like to play solo a lot of the time, but being in a corporation isnt an instant 'tell me what to do' card being played; its more like a support network that allows you to develop as a player more rapidly.

Furthermore, in Eve, at least at the higher levels (the 'powergame' if you will), individual personal skill is far more important than skillpoints or even shiptypes. Its difficult to develop these skills without a corp of experienced people to help you.

Anyway, my overall point is JOIN A CORPORATION. Preferably a reasonably large (30+) people one, with an experienced (year old or more) leader. Not doing so automatically rules out a large chunk of the game, and massively slows your development in the remaining chunk.

Flame away.

I've joined a corp.  It has two people in it: myself, and my alt.

Maybe its because I want to work to make my own game fun, and not someone else's.  Don't want to spend all my time making the game better for internet strangers, just so they can steal all my ISK and modules whenever they feel like it.

Have you had some bad corp in the past or something? I havent met any corp that uses people like that yet. most of the corps i know don't take anything from their members but mabe like a 5-10% tax on rat bounties but then again you can usually get the corp to insure battleships for you, borrow from the corp wallet if your short and acually need or really want something. lets nto forget the making more friends, the backup a good corp provides its members if they find themselves in a hot spot. asfar as modules go most corps dont force you to give them anything if your willing to donate thats fine but if not thats fine aswell... in my expirience corps arnt people feeding of their lowend rather people working together to better the game expirience for all its members not just its upper ranks.

also Everyones friends were at some point strangers to them (not including yourself ofcourse) so whats the point in being antisocial.

anyway you are entitled to your opinion im just thinking its a very pessimistic one

This is a reason I often hear from people who are saying that joining a corp ain´t worth it. There are probably thousands corps in EVE I´m pretty sure there is corp that fit´s everyone´s play style so you don´t need to work for their goals but you can work for the corp´s common goals. Not that I think there´s necessarily anything wrong with not wanting to join a corp but making them sound like labor camps is more than a bit misleading.
