Well, my older brother completely despises WoW after it almost sucking out his social life like it did for me the few years I played it. He is anticipating this game, and i'm not so sure why considering all the media i've seen for it BUT.. I wll try it out since i'll usually try a game no matter how much I don't like the way it looks. As of right now, i'm juggling Rakion - CoV/CoH trial - Flyff - and a few other games that i'm previewing for their available features.
You're going to try those games? Hah. If you think WoW sucks, I can guarantee you will log off most of these games you named in about 15 seconds:
Rakion - Ok, if you like a game where it's full of Cheaters/Hackers, and if you like to Grind in an Asian-style MMORPG, then YES, play this game.
CoV/CoH - You might be into this style of game-play. The character customization is awesome, I used to spent alot of time just creating how my character would look. The gameplay is decent, it's attractive at first, but gets boring, especially if you play by yourself. No real sense of "accomplishment" since there's no items.
Flyff - Again, very similar to Rakion. These free-to-buy and no-monthly-fee games are all the same. Full of 10 year-olds who cannot play p2p games and there's tons of Hackers. Not to mention the huge population running around, taking your mobs all the time. And if you take their mob, you'll get a response that's something along the lines of: "ks fcking boy"
Depending on what type of game you are into, you can try Guildwars. No subscription required, so you're not really losing anything except for the money you spent on the retail box. I was into that game for a while and it ate up lots of time; that's assuming you are just playing these games until the newer releases come out.
If you aren't into Guildwars or you've already played it, then....there's nothing really for you to play, sadly. You can try LoTRO or Vanguard, but don't count on liking them too much, unless you're a fan of LoTRO.
Im not playing any MMO's currently, the market is flooded with games that I have played and become bored with. Currently Im playing Warhammer 40k Dawn of War+ Expansions and NWN2. Im waiting for WAR obviously and also Richard Garriots Tabula Rasa!
I probably won't be playing anything either. I thought LOTRO would be a game I liked, and I did until about 20ish.... when i got 26 i just quit. I get so tired of doing forced quest, which was the same reason i quit WoW. Age of Conan looks good though, I will probably try that out at release.
There is only one viable choice right now in terms of quality and a WAR like game - DAOC. Prior to WAR we there will be AOC which might be a good offering.

quick note- CoH/CoV now has random item drops which can be traded. I actually thought lack of items made the game kinda interesting since pvp was less bout gear then other MMOs. not sure how much that will change.
guild wars is a good game I highly recommend that and had fun with CoX for a good while
DAoC is an excellent option. I've been there, done that, and would recommend it to anyone looking for solid PvP.
Currently, however, I've found myself wanting to get away from the whole "fantasy" thing for a bit. So until WAR arrives, I've got myself hooked on a small population MMO called Auto Assault.
It certainly is NOT for everyone, I admit, but I've found it to be a nice diversion from the "big-market" games.
14-day trial is available on FilePlanet or directly from the Auto Assault.com site (although I've found the FilePlanet one to be little more user-friendly).
The other great thing is you find out you like the game you can pick it up for a couple dollars on Amazon.com. Whatever you do, try and avoid all of the year-old reviews of the game...it's had 4 free updates (fifth coming soon) and the game is actually "ready for release" now!
I play DAoC and will propably continue playing it after WAR comes out since I'm not really interested about WAR anymore. I just don't have high hopes towards WAR although I might try it just to see what it's like
If you like DAOC so much, then WAR should be just what your looking for, IMO it will be DAoC 2, just new graphics. Unless you're gonna be playing AoC or PotBS then i would recommend WAR.

RTS: CC3 and Warcraft III: Frozen Throne. Note: Rarely Civ IV.
To be honest, if Vanguard continues to improve, I might not subscribe to WAR. I am intrigued by the Quest cooperative dynamic. I am not exactly crazy about PvP, and this seems like a PvP game. I am more of a PvE player but cherish the option to PvP. When PvP is the game's central focus, not sure that is for ME.
I'm not into PVP either but I think WAR will change all that for me. It looks like PVE and PVP are going to be far more integrated than other MMOs. I currently play WOW and I don't particularly like PVP because it seems like a bolted on afterthought.
I'll continue to play WOW until WAR is out although I am tempted by LOTRO.
I'm going to play Pirates of the Burning Sea until WAR comes out, and then probably continue playing it unless WAR consumes my life. I also plan on trying out Age of Conan and Gods and Heroes. Both seem to have a nice plan on how to spice up the MMO game world, but not as much as WAR, in my eyes.
My older brother is trying to get me into "gothador" but i detest that game. (not a fan of web-based MMORPG's) even if as he tells me "there's no level cap" ... still no.
I'll probably play Single Player games, maybe some EQ2 and LOTRO until WAR..... or until i hold mythic staff at gunpoint, whatever comes first.
EVE online is where I will be. I hope that this will be a sandbox style game with open PvP in a fantasy setting. There is truly a niche market for such a thing going unsatisfied.
I can guarantee this won't be a sandbox game. The latest Quest Podcast says there is an underlying story to the entire game that you go through in chapters. That alone says this isn't a sandbox.
It's definetly not a sandbox game.. that was known from the beginning. Also, PvP is alot different from RvR so i think, even though people may not like PvP, they may like the RvR in this game.

Good luck in your search!
i didn't enjoy:
City of Heroes/City of Villians
Lineage2
Vanguard--good game, but too many bugs for me, since i only plan to play till something better comes along
i'm currently playing:
Everquest2--just started playing, really enjoying it
Guildwars--not much, but i still log in from time to time
Flyff--some friends play it, not too impressive, but it's different than WOW, lol
Games i'm looking forward to:
Pirates of the Burning Sea
Sword of the New World
Age of Conan
Warhammer Online
i'll probably play both Age of Conan and Warhammer once they come out and drop any other games, lol
Man its a tough choice and might even be tougher on my wallet .

Lord of the Rings
Counter Strike
Call of Duty II
I remember I kind of like CoH for awhile, so I re-bought the CoH/CoV combo today and started playing again.
I guess it's just the customization that gets me the most.
I am playing City of Villains until a game wins my interest and hold it.
I will give WAR a try, but I am not into PvP at all...soo...we will see.
