How is the population in UO?

WraithmireWraithmire Member Posts: 328
I'm gonna give UO another try once Kingdom Reborn is released next month or whenever it is supposed to be released. Was wondering, is the population still healthy or is it slowly shrinking?

Also, if you are already gone, will you come back when the expansion is released? I assume it will come with a free trial?

    Depends on the shards.

There is still an ongoing exodus of players and on all shards you can easily get house spots in Trammel even, though not big ones.

Atlantis is rumored to be the biggest shard and europa is quite busy too, though on both house spots are available.

Educated guess is that UO has 120.000 accounts and on average each player has 2 accounts. So that makes 60.000 players and half of them on asian servers, mostly japanese.

So you have about 30.000 more or less active western players on the shards, though with KR I guess the number will rise a bit.

On smaller shards like Lake Austin and Origin you can easily place large houses.

KR is a free download and will have a free trial as far as I guess - rumored to be a 2 GB download though.

Still as one put it nicely "A pig with lipstick is still a pig" and many core parts of UO still remain broken and unfixed.

Many shards/servers still have a fair amount of players. Lake Superior, Pacific, Atlantic, Austin. It is not in the 10,000 range but I would say it is a healthy community.

Lake Superior has a very nice community, always a auction going on weekly, organized events going on from guilds, people pretty friendly.

Hope that helps answer your question.

Be cool to people, and try and stay cool that way you never have to regret making someone feel bad. Don't take what ya got granted because some people never get to feel happy. We get to play these great MMOs and surf a good site. Be thankful for what ya got and next time ya feel down imagine a fat sea otter waddling with a pillow and a night cap. Bam! smiles!

I will be returning with KR as well. If EA sees the population rise, they will likely be more willing to continue modernizing the game and adding new content. Ultima Online is not a hugely populated game like World of Warcraft but it is certainly not as bad off as Planetside, Horizons, or The Matrix Online, for example. The real danger for this game is being owned by EA. They have probably the worst reputation when it comes to online gaming with quite a few cancelled projects such as Ultima Online 2 and Ultima: Odessey(sp?) and closed games such as Majestic, Motor City Online, and Earth and Beyond. Some guy on mmorpg.com called SOE the nursing home of MMO's. If that is the case, then surely EA is the executioner of MMO's.

    I'd say Europa.

If you playing from Europe play on Europa.....its deffinetly the bigger of the two shards. Atlantic is probably the biggest Americain one from what ive witnessed. Although ping isnt an issue on a good connection usualy...you drop about 40-50 playing over the oceans. :o

That said, EA Mythic is now the official MMO division of EA and they are now in charge of UO... I think we will be seeing a lot of good things to come for UO.

    Optimist.

They have a decent development team so far, still KR seems to be a long way from ready yet.

I hope they take their time to finish KR and newbie experience and not chase people away with half finished systems.
