Frets on Fire... Guitar Hero on the PC

The topic title says it all, it's Guitar Hero on your computer, for free. The initial download comes with a few songs I think, but if you can import songs into the game if you got a Guitar Hero (1 or 2) game through your DVD drive or download them if you know where to look. The game also let's you create and download custom songs.

You'd think using the keyboard would be pretty lame but using this style of holding the keyboard works surprisingly well and makes the game much more entertaining.

I'm pretty sure the xbox 360's guitar for Guitar Hero 2 is compatible with this game as well.

I recommend everyone give this a shot, it plays a lot better than it looks.

I could check to see if the 360 guitar controller is compatible, but I'm not sure I really want to download this thing on my computer...

Extremely old (I remember people posting this back when GH1 just came out). Its decent for a free game, but the fact is its extremely poor compared to Guitar Hero. Songs are made by regular people, so the quality of them really suffers, and they're really annoying to play (ie, note progression doesn't make sense, and timing can be off).

I don't believe it's superior to Guitar Hero and no one should, but it's free and I'm sure there are songs out there that were made by other players that play fine, although I agree that most are poorly done. If all else fails, you can still play the regular Guitar Hero songs that you can import from the game which play just fine.

Ok, I have to ask this. What is the deal with Guitar Hero? Does anyone here that actually plays the guitar, play this game? I'll be the first to admit that I'm no Jimmy Page, but I can strum some rhythm, and I just don't get it. All you do is hit like 4 buttons on your "fret" right? It's not nearly as complicated as real guitar is it? Does this improve your practice somehow, or is it just for people that don't know how to play and want to feel cool?

Normally I'd just buy it and try it myself, but it's like ~$100 for the bundle. TIA.

Noooo Thanks, I might break my weak compaq keyboard on that thing. Also I hear that is pretty old.

Do people who play Dance Dance Revolution really dance? Do people who play light gun shooters in the arcade think they know how to handle a gun now?

This game isn't as old as people make it out to be, I don't believe this game is even a year old yet. I'm just posting it because I didn't think it was well voiced. And unless you got butterfingers or a greasy keyboard, handling the keyboard shouldn't be a problem unless you are on a laptop.

My sister's fiance plays guitar and plays guitar hero...obviously playing a real guitar is more complex, but for those of us who don't have the time or money to afford a guitar and lessons....guitar hero does just fine when we want to feel like we know how to play Sweet Child of Mine by Guns N Roses

Yeah, cool thanks. I appreciate the reply. I guess I just wondered why, if people were interested in playing guitar, why they didn't spend the $100 on an actual guitar? Lol, I dunno, as long as people are having fun. I honestly did not understand it though, so again, thanks for the response.
