From my experience, WoW is anything but broken. I think the game mechanics are well done. They are just too simple. After BC came out and revealed itself as nothing more than a reset button on the hamster wheel, Many of the players who had been there and done that found it boring.
BC had the potential to captivate the imaginations of so many players for several more years to come. Instead, it was nothing more than a bunch of new instances and grinding for epics that were marginally better than the blues you could get from 5 mans. Oh yea, they added 2 new boring pvp instances. IMO, it was BC that killed WoW. IMO its more of a patch than an expansion.
