Solareus, listen, I'm trying to be nice here. Farlan has ripped off thousands of people by over charging, double and triple charging. Heck, if you look far enough back in their own forums, you'll see thread upon thread about. This is public knowledge and if you don't believe that, try their forum search.
Now, I have no idea where you are from Solareus, but the whole lawsuit between VWorld and Farlan is taking place in France. France has a notoriously slow court system, even _Pix_, who lives there, acknowledges this. Of course Farlan is going to blame _Pix_ and say he's lying. Farlan also blamed the company handling the subscriptions, Click & Buy. Come ot find out, Farlan was telling Click & Buy to charge people, even though they didn't have current subscriptions to the game and had cancelled. Heck, they even charged the players who were playing double if not triple. I know one person who was charged six, THAT's 6 times!
I'm sorry to inform you, Farlan are a bunch of crooks. You will not win any support here. Take the time to read, then make a decision on your own, but all of us here have felt the sting of Farlan's lies and will not be swayed, nor should anyone else.

So does SOe, but I don't see you guys running around hooting and hollering about them ... Vanguard was the biggest rip off in mmo history with players paying 100-300 dollars for collector editions. Also , just because you got ripped off , doesn't mean Farlan is to blame. Here you go, spouting more nonsense. First, SOE wasn't responsible for Vanguards problems, sigil was. SOE bought 'em out AFTER the game was already a failure. Also, show me where SOE has done more harm to it's customers than Farlan/NPcube. A change in gameplay sucks, but it is NOT a harm to it's customers. Stealing from them IS harmful, and that is what Farlan/NPcube did. Farlan was telling Click & Buy to charge people, even though they didn't have current subscriptions to the game and had cancelled. Heck, they even charged the players who were playing double if not triple. I know one person who was charged six, THAT's 6 times! This statement is slander. Sorry, verifiable FACTS are not slander. Again, go read before making statements. All you're doing is continuing to show your ignorance of what Farlan/NPcube has done. Edit: Oh, and that's ignorance, as in "lack of knowledge about a topic", not as in calling you personally ignorant. So, get your hand off the report button, before you look silly again. I'm sorry to inform you, Farlan are a bunch of crooks. You will not win any support here. Take the time to read, then make a decision on your own, but all of us here have felt the sting of Farlan's lies and will not be swayed, nor should anyone else. Game is completely free, and if it ever goes pay to play it will die, no doubt, but as a f2p game I find it very enriching and entertaining, maybe something a lot people couldn't see, since there minds where enraged with anger and resent . Why would anyone care how a game is after all of this? And who would honestly want to try and improve a game that won't be around in a year? Far as I'm concerned, playing the game is direct support of Farlan/NPcube's acts, and says it's perfectly fine for "devs" to do this to their customers.
I am not picking at anyone who doesn't like the game, I am just seeing this whole mess at an entirely different angle
Like I said before, you enjoy the "game", by all means, go and enjoy it. But give up on trying to promote or defend ANY part of that game or it's "devs" here, as you will not succeed.

You're trolling and trying to start arguements, reported for trolling.
solareus I stopped reading your post when you compared SoE to Farlan/NCube. I played Vanguard and while I agree the game wasn't very good, certainly SoE did not go around billing people who quit or bill anyone multiple times in a single month.
I personally feel like this case is bust, the VWORLd people werent even around when the the engine was created, came in during the creation process , paid by the NP3 then they left, claiming the created somethig that was already being developed ? It doesnt jell , sorry.
Then they come to forums like these to drum up the army of haters who "got ripped off" (cause they didn't read the precise cancellation process carefully enough) to be there main source for some kind of lawsuit ? Is that summoning up this whole topic , or no ?
Come back when you have read and managed to comprehend the DnL forums here from beginning to end. If you still don't get it, don't know what to tell you, except that I have some swampland in the Sahara I'm willing to sell you real cheap.
In answer to you question "Is that summoning up this whole topic , or no ?", the answer is: No, not even close.
As I remember it, there was no "Cancel" button at first. The only way to completely cancel your account was to either cancel your credit card, or close your Click & Buy account. But of course, that's not Farlan's fault, it's everyone else's.
Oh, and just for the record, I never got over charged, or double charged. I played the game until two months after release, and when they still hadn't bothered to patch any of the problems that were still prevelant in SoG, I quit.
Click and Buy is a german ran company. Being some in the U.S. I personally don't trust German websites with money ttransactions because i large bit of fraud happens . I've received over 40 e-mails this year alond stating "My bank account" "Please sign in your PayPal" notices and when I hover my mouse over the link it shows a flat IP and .DE . Germanany along with South Africa is the biggest in internet fraud, and you must be very , very careful with your transaction. I'm not saying that people from DnL got scammed , but you will be surprising how cionvincing the e-mails can be ......
Well, I guess you can say Alchemic Dream was untrustworthy as well then, right? 'Cause Farlan blamed them when the same exact thing was happening with them, too.
Funny, Click & Buy has offices in New York, which, if I remember my geography, is inside the United States of America. Lots of companies are not based in the United States due to taxes.
Ever hear of a BP gas station? They are pretty common throughout the US. Well, BP = British Petroleum. I could go on and on about how many companies that you might think are based in the Untied States, but actually aren't.
The same can be said of some companies you think are from another country and are not. We'll take Sony for instance. Did you know Sony stands for Standard Oil of New York. It's true, the orginal Sony was one of the compaines started by US companies as part of the reconstruction effort of Japan after World War 2.
I personally feel like this case is bust, the VWORLd people werent even around when the the engine was created, came in during the creation process , paid by the NP3 then they left, claiming the created somethig that was already being developed ? It doesnt jell , sorry.

Solareus,
I would suggest you really do some research before spouting your campaign against the man who developed VWORLD Tech. Much of what was already published (and again, the written word you shouldve used is libel, not slander, but then again, it wasnt libel either) can be evidenced or has facts to support VWORLD. Farlan has nothing but lies. Always has.
You obviously havent a clue how to comprehend even a calender or any of the old articles Farlan/NPC put out. Seems the jokers even forgot themselves what they had stated, in writing and released to the press, in writing many years ago. They contradict each other in so many of them, its a joke!
People here at these forums are people who have been here long before DNL. Their sole purpose is not to bash DNL but because of their OWN EXPERIENCE WITH FARLAN ENTERTAINMENT have made informed posts regarding the shenanigans of Farlan Entertainment. And again, I suggest you read up on some things, comprehend them and you may just find a few jewels in the garbage. Such as ...Farlan admitting the overcharges and wrongful billings....Farlan admitting there is no "cancellation process"....Farlan finally admitting it cost money to cancel.....Farlan blaming C&B for the overcharges,......Farlan even admitted it was the fans fault for the state of the game at release!!!
Let me first preface this by saying that I too enjoy DnL, and am currently playing. There are many aspects of the game that I find interesting, and I find that the character/armor/weapons models, though outdated, are as tolerable as DAoC for instance, and superior to EQLive.
There are many aspects of the actual game play that are in dire need of attention, such as combat animations, but I can work around the limitations.
However, I must tell you in all candor that the abysmal reputation of Farlan regarding their customer service and billing has not been misrepresented here. I suppose if you wished to be gracious, one might say they were merely incompetent and indifferent. Many though see something a bit more sinister, and make the accusation that they were callous, calculating and fraudulent. As in most things, I suspect that the answer lies in the middle somewhere.
The game's terrible performance, patching, account creation, and stability all serve to put off potential players. Your experiences are really more the exception rather than the rule. It runs fine on my older system too, (even with an ATI card), but that is only because through trial and error and extensive reading of the forums, that I have been able to tweak my system or to find ways around the barriers that seem to be hard coded into the game.
As for Pix,
I believe that Pix IS Vincent Pourieux, who posts on these forums from time to time, and who has some very dedicated defenders here. In my discussions with him via these boards I have found him to be forthwith, patient, and informative.
I cannot say whether or not his legal claim has merit, since I only know what I have read here, and on the web. I am sure that during the legal proceedings, (that are ongoing), that each side will make their case, and that the courts will be able to decide which claim has validity.
Based on my experiences with Farlan, and my conversations with Pix here, I will admit that I am silently rooting for him.
It is not a popularity contest though, and sadly, these types of cases are often very difficult to prove. One need only look at the copywrite infingement case which Richard Leigh and Michael Baigent brought against Dan Brown over the Da Vinci Code, and Holy Blood, Holy Grail. What *appeared* to be an open and shut case did not come out as expected.
I secretly suspect that it was a simple case of "money talks, and bullsh*t walks" Such may also be the case here as well, though I doubt seriously that Farlan has anywhere near the deep pockets that Brown does. Perhaps Pix might be able to give you a more informed assessment.
Never the less those posters here are strident in their hatred for Farlan, and their support for Pix, and arguing the point here will only serve to stir up enmity. There is enough 'sturm und drang' here as it is.
If Pix wins his case, then it is likely that DnL will be shut down in short order. If not, well, it may ultimately shut down anyhow. Either way, I do not see that happening for a year or so yet, so you might as well enjoy playing the game for as long as you can.
On the DnL forums I post under the name Finnigan, and my characters in-game are Veon, Triffyn, and Einion.
Trying to convice those here to diregard their own experiences with Farlan though is truly an exercise in futility.

I'm saying that it is easy to scam those systems if you that is all you do all day .... that all. I completely understand your frustration but it doesn't do anyone any good to blame Farlan either, it IS possible this game had all the bad luck , and it is possible that Farlan is a crook. Either or , you guys carry a grudge to long, and now that game is f2p , why not try it and see how far you go with it , then lay a verdict, you can't pvp or lay seige by killing 1 badger ....
I recommend if anyone comes to this game, make it clear on there forums , you will never pay to play this, Item shop purchase:"maybe" (not hehe) but make it clear, that you will never pay for this game ..... that should dillute any attempt by the Developer to try and milk it , so when the tiem comes and he decides to go p2p , guess what, no one is buying ... you all actr like I don't get it, or don't understand you views, I do clearly. I just play the game differently ,
Dude, C&B personnel at the time of the mess even stated to several customers the actions of Farlan in trying to explain why they had been billed. Farlan then even tried to halt, or stall true cancellation requests by their procedures with C&B. Several times Farlan came on the boards and said it was a glitch in their billing system and is being worked out. Finally, Farlan admitted that it was indeed their own billing system yet it still took several MONTHS for Farlan to "fix" it,
Bad luck isnt the word for this company nor this game. Bad incompetence, bad lying, bad inexperience, bad lying, bad pr, bad lying, everything involved with these companies Farlan Entertainment and NP3 is bad,
And by the by, bad posts by their "fans" continue to this day.

When it comes to game community forums, I start at the game, I no all to well how mmorpg.com forums work and I will very rarely give any "hate " threads" a second look, the game has problems, right now, i am looking at the game, as i do so i take time and read about this lawsuit, for right now from what I gathered, VWORLD would need a time machine to win . That is the simple facts. You can't go into a job get paid for some work , then go home and claim the work hyou already got paid for was your soul idea, The Engine was already in development before the "plaintiff" arrived to work at the "said " comapny, the Company gave a salary for the plaintiff to do a specific tast, the plaintiff agreed, did the task and left the company to start his own company. Once he recieved a salary payment for work he no longer can lay claim to anything created in that time frame. If he wins, then I invented everything i ever touched .
You realllllly think you have it all figured out doncha? Again, do some REAL reading, find out the FACTS. You dont even have a clue whats really going! There are PAGES of info regarding the REAL idea behind the lawsuit. Take a gander at _Pix_'s site for one. There you will see other links to just what he is claiming and just how far-fetched and full of bull Farlan is. LMAO Dear Gawd boy, you sound like a Snow! LOL
Trying to convice those here to diregard their own experiences with Farlan though is truly an exercise in futility.
It is like there is only one perspective to this, sorry folks the world doesnt work that way .
Just think it is a lot more refreshing to read 2 sides to ever storym and unless you are willing to post credit card transaction to support your claims, then any statements regarding billing is void from my perspective.
As far as the billing issue have anything to do with this court case is beyond me, tell how this has anything to do with the case. It is like you would rather see Indepedent developers shut down faster then trying to bring someone like SOE into the courts for the same billing practices ....
As far as this person _tix_ is concerned he is just another internet name, with grudge , and with a grudge like he has it will blow up in his face, he won't win , he was salaried to a job, he did the job and left, he has no rights to the work rendered in that studio. The gaame engine was registered before VWorld was, null and void. Why would he need to come a forum to talk about a lawsuit. Makes 0 sense to me but to try and work up support from the foaming of the mouths of haters. And it is working, towards what purpose, is yet to be seen. That is my perspective.
LMAO ummm...there are SEVERAL Credit card transaction examples from REAL PEOPLE on the DNL boards themselves!!! LMAO. There are also copies of emails from several HUNDRED at last count. C&B themselves stated directly to SEVERAL PEOPLE that they were in fact overbilled. GET A GRIP DUDE!! LMAO
The billing practices were brought up as an overall picture of the type of company _Pix_ is dealing with as well as the type of issues involved. Farlan has been discredited from their total abysmal lack of integrity on their own part.
and the name is _Pix_. R u drunk or sumpin?
Ya know too? Spelling is unfortunately a direct reflection of your intelligence.
Ya know too Sol? SOE or Sigil if you will, at least had a game that worked, had 90% of promises done, somewhat stable servers and lotsa content. Umm...a PLAYABLE game.
Makes quite a bit of difference to the mmorpg players ya know what I mean?
I have to totally agree about the superiority of DnL's terrain rendering engine compared with Vanguard's.
I read somewhere that Sigil initially used a graphics engine from a console game and tried to adapt it to Vanguard, but it simply could not deal with the expanded load that an MMO demanded (/shrugs--it's really beyond my ken though).
I DO know that the 'stutter' phenomenon at each chunk line in Vanguard was almost unbearable at times, especially for computers at the minimum specs. They claimed a 'seemless' world with no zones, but in reality it was if there were a myriad of little 'mini' zones laid out every few hundred yards, each one recquiring up to several seconds to load in (depending on your rig).
90% complete for Vanguard is overly generous I would say. It would be more like 66%, but still there is more content in Vanguard (even at 66%) than there is in DnL.
However that comparison is a bit misleading. DnL was envisioned to be a massive PvP world along the DAoC model, and it was the players themselves rather than the designers that would be the primary providers of the game's content. However with only 100-150 active players in a world as vast as Ganareth, the design thrust breaks down, and there is only a limited amount of game provided content to fall back on. That is not necessarily a valid criticism of the game, but rather, a lack of foresight as to.... "What would happen if we don't get enough players to generate the needed content?" I am not convinved that that question was asked at even the earliest design stages.
I would assume that even those haters of Farlan acknowledge the superiority of DnL's engine, (even when it is misfiring). After all, they are making the claim that it is Pix' engine in reality (albeit operated at 'half-speed' so to speak)
The real issues here are just whose intellectual property does the terrain engine legally belong to. That, and the business practices of DnL's parent company, Farlan.
Essentially, those two issues are the only substanative isses that are being debated.
All other issues, from lag, to character models, to spawn rates, to which quests are broken, to class balancing, are the mundane issues that all MMOs debate endlessly. It's not that those issues are unimportant, it's just that they are not unique to DnL.
My fondest wish is that someday, a company with the resources and commitment will release an online, and graphically updated, version of DaggerFall as an MMO; and if you know what DaggerFall was, then you're dating yourself---although I do remember these choice lines from another classic:
'You are standing in an open field west of a white house with a picket fence. There is a mailbox here'

LOL
LMAOThe billing practices were brought up as an overall picture of the type of company _Pix_ is dealing with as well as the type of issues involved.
