Something that would help Lotro

Lotro seems like a good game. But the one thing it lacks is a free 7-10 day downloadable trial. I would have atleast played the game for a few days and possibly got hooked if i could download it. But I don't know if i like the game enough to spend 50 bucks. What do you guys think. Do you think a free trial that is downloadable helps promote sales or do you think they'll make just as many sales regardless.

Free trials have a good side and a bad side.. good side is they can get new players into the game.... bad side is they are abused by gold seller sites that spams players with their ads.

QFT, also, for a game like LOTRO free trials would only damage it. All the LOTRO haters would make trial accounts just to screw with everyones enjoyment of the game.

    LOTRO doesnt need help.

I agree with the poster above me, LOTRO is way too popular and new to be anywhere the point of needing a free trial.   Maybe in a year or so, but right now the last thing they need to do is load the servers with a bunch of freebie players.

dunno about us servers but the eu servers are so overloaded as it is that peak time= lag time.

Now add the free trial factor and i am certain the servers will buckle for sure .So it might mean new servers which codemasters are so reluctant to add as it is.

Maybe when the game is 1 year old then yeah a free trial but not now.

The last few nights I've logged on I've been queued.  Not too bad though, I'm usually like number 10-15 in line.  By the time I get my browser open to pass some time I'm already in game.

I agree with the other posters though, if you put up a free trial all you're going to get are the WoW people who come in to make an ass of themselves in another game.

Disclaimer-Not that all WoW players are asses.  Just a considerable amount of them.

Games usually give away a free trial after the initial hype wares oft and the numbers are not growing anymore. You will see that almost every game that has been out on the market for a while will have a free trial and some (SWG, EVE) seem to be increasing their numbers because of it.

LOTRO is large enough now and seams to be going through a similar (if a lot less) growing pain to WoW; server queue to get in. This game will eventually give away trial accounts but the inital buzz was good enough that Turbine figured that they wern't  needed.

Hmm, a .22 pistol to the head would probably help more, get it over with quickly.

Oh, whoops, I'm sorry, I was thinking of Vanguard.
