Best Feature of AO?

KrebulKrebul Member Posts: 46
For me, it was the tower battles.   That, and Tarasque.  Without those two elements, I wouldn't have played it for 3 years.  With those two elements, its probably the best MMO I've played to date.

For me AO is one of those games that is hard to not like ...That is until Shadow Lands....and after everyone went to the Shadow Lands

I ended up just hanging around talking to people ,which is fine since alot of great people played AO at that time .

So I'll have to say that the best feature was the people

For me the best part was the tower battles, ai raids and player owned cities.

It's one of the worst mmog's I played in my life But there was few nice ideas in that game that should be installed in new games.

Futher more the new games should not be upkept by funcom. Thats worst (absent) customer service ever.

For me it was the ability to twink the snot out of your characters.   Tho I never really had a twink I was completely happy with. I did have a Pre LE  lowbie tower twink that was raher competetive and decently put together.   LvL 11 with ql 70+ implants.  I just lacked the funds or rare items   to ladder implants much higher,   ( like that pioneer backpack that gives +1 to all Attributes) .

Tara was seriously alot of fun. but like the best feature was just a tiny one. Treatment Packs and Nano Rechargers...i really hate it in every mmorpg when i have to sit there and wait to recharge. quick sit/fix and you were good to go again. What i also hated about shadowlands with those coils.

Today I was down at my local EB, getting LOTR and I chatted with the shopkeeper. Turns out he also played AO back in the day on the clan-side (I played Omni) We had a great time remenising about the game that popped our MMO-cherry. Turns out we have some mutual freinds and enemies :P

AO was far from perfect but it was a game you lived more than something you played. I got to know some of the people I to this day call my best freinds. No other game had me getting up in the middle of the night to organize an attack on some low lvl tower in EFP

no other game had  me hateing and admiring the other side  like AO.

Notum War is the best implimentation of PVP with a purpose in any MMO I have seen. no coincidence that they are using almost the same system i AOC.

Twinking, was a gameplay stroke of genious. While unrealistic, it was always a challenge and you could spend hours and hours on it. It beat the hell out of raid content and everyone could do it since it was more reliant on player "skill" than time invested.

Blitzing was a game in it self. Getting the right mission and running then door to door before buffs ran out was hella fun and always a challenge -again a skilled blitzer could make a pretty penny if he was good at his game.

But the very best thing about AO has to be the memories

I played AO for a couple years as well. While I eventually grew weary of the endgame content and making endless alts, it is certainly one of the best games ever. For me twinking toons was the best, I loath the simplistic equiping of every other game. AO was great in other ways too... it was the first game to really implement instancing in a useful way. PVP was also extremely well done with the addition of the Tower Wars. The best part of AO however was the community.

    AO2?

The best part about it is deffinetly the unmatched stats system. No other game offers the character customisation that AO does.

ANd can anyone explain how good it is when you twink your character, after hours and hours of working out numbers and planning what u will do, then looking for the items... it reli is orgasmic in the end.

AO was great a few years back.  But now it has turned into an elitist game.  If you dont have a 220 belonging in a guild having a city you are completly left out.  Everything moderatly good in the game is insanely expensive.  They made all the stuff from RK completly obsolete.  I remember when i was playing my Engi, the great feeling i had finally reaching 200, took me hell of a lot of time (40+ played days), back then, the only things we could do was missions.  I remember that characters reaching 5k tokens, getting the Pain of  Patricia pistol, i was so happy, but all this is gone now.

Now today peoples can powerlevel to 200 in 2-3 weeks, buy tokens, RK is a dead town :(  For me AO went downhill with the release of AI and it only got worst with LE.  Shadowlands was a hell of a great expansion, the best one FC release, Notum Wars, the first expansion was awesome too, even tought i was not a pvp fan, i loved it.

Yes AO was great, but now it's not even worth playing... too bad.

Some expansions help the game.  I think AO was really good up to notum wars and then with AI came out as well.  Yes shadow lands was a fantasy step for AO and it was bad but it did step up the pace of leveling.  I could make it to level 50 in a single day of like 3 or 4 hours of playing while in the release of AO i was barely able to make level 10 in a week (some due to the fact that it was slightly buggy and my computer couldnt handle walking into Rome districts).

I gave up on the game early after release.  I was an Asherons Call fan atm.  AO does have some very distinct characteristics that make a great AO game.  The freebie accounts are cool but make you feel very left out because everyone else is doing the SL and AI thing and you dont even get to do notum wars either =/.

I still think about playing AO as a froob.  Hell I had two accounts, one a fixer and the other a trader =P.  That was lots of fun haha.

RK over SL anyday, i love my nodrop unique stuff and encounters, but SL is good if u want a few qk lvls

The community in AO is gr8, but for me its the amount of customization available to ur toons, its mind boggling
