Its funny you say that as my charachters where a MM mentalist and a AUG healer.

Single target long duration mez was good for our group as we opened with root insted of  ae mez.  I guess its your playstyle.

Aug healer was very successful. But no there was no uber melee for the endgame, but I was able to solo oranges in pve with no downtime :)
the 2 classes played very similar however. Stun single target mez and heal, spread heal was nice, but single target was much better for rvr once you knew what you where doing. They where both fun and had similar things they brought to the table but still had options to do other things.... seperate powers but equal over all.. I feel like i said that before

I guess in a  way this is a testoment of how the classes are different depending on play style people view different ones similar or not so similar.

I'm a huge fan of DAOC, but I think this one could go either way.

Mythic learned more and more about balancing their classes as time went on, because as you mentioned, the corresponding classes in each realm were QUITE different (besides satisfying the designated archtype for the realm). While a Bard in Hibernia was not only the "singer" for the realm, they were also competent healers; Skalds in Midgard were the "singer" with light tank capabilities; Minstel in Albion was a "singer" with enhanced Crowd Control abilities. All three played completely different, while offering some mirroring abilities and roles. Healing classes were even worse ("StunGard") of a disparity....

WAR seems to be going somewhat the same route, except some archtypes aren't even mirrored (which is odd given the small number of classes per faction). Maybe instead of balancing by faction (Human, Elf, Dwarf), they are balancing by "Good vs Evil" (or however the Warhammer Universe classifies them). I'm just afraid that while trying to offer distinct playing experiences from each side, we may find tremendous balance issues in the first few months of playing.

Either way, I'll be playing on launch day :)

Btw, I looked at some of the preliminary guides... a great start, and I can't wait for more info!

EVERYONE , with perhaps the exception of the dwarves..... are evil. High elves and dark elves you would think at first glance that the high elves are good and fair, but the back story goes that they betrayed their overly aggressive king and then backstabed him and all of his followers. They then cast them all out and they have been roaming ever since, their anger over the betrayal has led them to become scorned and filled with wrath and turn to a life of drugs slavery and hate.

Kraiden, this is not an accurate portrayal of the High elves at all. As well as being the biggest of insults to any true High Elf. What you describe is closer to a Dark Elf than a High Elf, but the history is completely off. Time to break out my Army book and go over a history lesson. This is paraphrased from the current High Elves army book.

Aenarion was the current Phoenix King. He rescused an Elven woman named Morathi from a band of Slannesh cultists. She had been tainted by the forces of Chaos while held prisoner. To complete her dark trickeries, she bedded Aenarion and bore him a child named Malekith. I mention this because of it's importance, but I will come back to Malekith later.

Daemons were rampaging everywhere and the Elves (Dark Elves don't exist at this point in time so all Elves are High Elves) are slowing losing the battle to Chaos. So Caledor with the sages of Asur came up with a brilliant plan to forever seal off the forces of Chaos in the world. The sages would travel to the Isle of the Dead to seal off the ancient circles to send the daemons back to the eternal abyss. Aenarion was at the forefront of the fight against Chaos to give the sages enough time to seal off Chaos. The 4 greater daemons knew their very livelyhood was at stake here and fought with an unrelenting fury. However, they did not count on the sheer power of Aenarion and his dragon Indraugnir. They both sacrificed their lives so the Asur could live on. The 4 greater daemons called Aenarion brother, and were right to do so. He was a being without measure in the world.

Ulthuan had found peace at last, but they had no ruler. This peace was to be short lived. All of Aenarion's Children were found to be safe following the war. Treeman Oakheart who still slumbers to this day in Avelorn, Yvrainne became the new Everqueen and the spirit of Astarielle lived on in her body. Morelion had been sent east with an elite bodyguard but no one knew of his fate. Many ships were sent out to try and find him, but none had succeeded. And of course Malekith.

Many Elves believed Malekith had enough of his father's blood running through his veins, and as such believed he should be named the next Phoenix King. However, true High Elves are not a rash people. The elders met and debated for many months on who should become the next Phoenix King. The Elves had been through centuries of war and longed for a time of peace. Overshadowed by his father and with the influenced clearly left on him by his mother (who at this point in time was a secret worshipper of Slannesh), the elders felt Malekith was unfit to rule Ulthuan. The council elected Bel-shanaar to rule instead. He was a wise and just ruler that had proven his bravery many times over during the war.

It was a time of great growth and prosperity for the Elves. Trade happened freely, the Elves shared their knowledge openly and freely with the other races. Dwarves and Elves fought side by side willingly to drive back the forces of Chaos from the lands that would soon be known as the Empire. During this time, Malekith was on a voyage of personal discovery. It was a time of invincible harmony for the Elves. As time passed though, we became complacent and forgot the spirit of harmony with our lands that bound us together and made us strong. Elven cultists returned, Elves that grew rich through trade lost their way, surrendering to greed. Chaos found a root again the Elves in the form of Slannesh, god of pleasure. And the leader of this cult was none other than Morathi.

Malekith had returned from his voyage just after this had began and started a crusade to purge the cult of Slannesh from the Elven lands. He fought with a righteous vigor. Nobles that were true to the cause were executed swiftly by Malekith. The people of Nagarythe were truly persecuted. The families that lost loved ones began to rise up against the Phoenix King and civil war was brewing. The Phoenix King had unknowingly become a puppet of Malekith as he killed off Elves true to Ulthuan. Bel-shanaar called his council to try and solve this growing problem and prevent a civil war. It was during this time that Malekith's true nature divulged itself when he pointed the finger of accusation at Bel-shanaar himself that the council became known to Malekith's ploy. To this day, we are unsure if it was during his purging that his exposure to the forces of Chaos turned him into what he became or if it was his nature all along. He poisoned Bel-shanaar and murdered the council. He sought to take the Phoenix Throne and traveled to the Shrine of Asuryan. You can hide your heart from the people, but you cannot hide it from the eternal flames of the gods. He tried to prove himself worthy to assume the Phoenix Crown, but instead when he entered the flames, they burned his body and threw him out. His followers carried his broken body to Nagarythe where his mother healed his wounds with bitter tears. Fearing the wrath that would come upon the both of them by her son's actions, she fled with her son west and the Elves thought the evil had been purged.

Imrik had been declared to take the Phoenix throne, and changed his name to Caledor. He was a warrior at heart, something the Elves badly needed at this time. On the eve of his wedding, it had been announced that Malekith had returned and taken the throne of Anlec. Within days, the people of Ulthuan had become divided. This was the start of the Dark Elves. Morathi's agents quickly spread lies and deceptions that Caledor was a false king. Very few had seen Caledor pass through the sacred flame, so many didn't know who was the true Phoenix King. Malekith converted many elves to his side with his sly tongue. He built up an army and civil war broke out.

There is a whole lot more history, but to put it all here would end up as just a Great Wall of China block of text. This should give you a feel for what exactly did happen and to shed much more light on exactly who the High Elves and Dark Elves are. As for the statement, only Dwarves are truly good is not accurate. If any race is "truly" good, it would be the Lizardmen of Lustria. High Elves have not been completely good, but the true High Elves cannot be called evil. It was only those affected by the taint of Slannesh that were evil, such as Morathi and Malekith.

Its all in playstyle and how you use it.
for months I was told that "you cant heal your a nuker" but I stuck with the spec because we had to have someone be a healer for leveling. After I got a better grasp of the game I couldnt see liking any class more than a part time nuker part time healer. I infact still play the same role in wow as a 31shadow 30 holy priest.

Some people view lack of 1v1 power as weakness, while others view lack of grouping power as a setback. As long as the total power of the class is equal over all, and not just when matched up 1 v 1 to another class is all that matters.
I could care less if a class in war was hands down weaker than another, as long as overall the realm was balanced.
Runepriest, it was horrid. I mean HORRID class. By far the worst I played.  while Ironbreaker was the best class I played. I felt the shaman was more effective overall than the runie, but the Ironbreaker was more effective than the Blackorck.... thats equal to me!
Im dying to play elves/elves. I just want to know what classes are going to be there already. hope they will have it at games day in baltimore since I plan on covering the event. its only a 3 hour drive for me.
