The part i really hate about the game is the strong requirement of teamwork...its impossible to build your character without a team after lvl 40 solo without taking 20 times as much time as it would take in a party (which is still a lengthy time). My fav class was monk and i did solo my second account to lvl 43 in 92 days but my main i got to 47 in 3 and a half weeks worth of lvl grinding
And here we have the prime determinate about whether or not you'll like FFXI. This is my FAVORITE part of FFXI, and I expect the team-based emphasis the favorite part of it for a lot of other people who are hooked on it.

Absolutely true. I actually loved getting in a good party to gain my levels, I met a lot of nice people and it formed a really sweet community. FF11 is a game where you WANT to feel 'needed', and quite frankly you are never going to feel needed solo. It's a very boring game to not partake in the community

So true. I couldn't agree more.
Part of FFXI's brilliance is in its battle dynamics and in how each class works in a party. In no other MMO have I seen solid strategy and skill so well-rewarded as it is in FFXI.
Unfortunately, some never get to experience this, really, as they're more focused on finding a single-player experience in it and are walking away disappointed to not really find one.
