Player from Pre-T2A ... how is the game now?

Greetings!  I bought UO when it first went live and played up until T2A.  This recent update announcement has me interested.  How different is the game now?  How hard would it be for a new player to get on their feet in this game?

If you are referring to Ultima Online Kingdom Reborn, it's good to know that it is still undergoing beta testing and the old graphics are still there.

The game is VERY different from T2A, Felucca is all but empty, and everyone is playing in Trammel instead. They have added a lot of new features, and quite a lot of silly things. It might be a bit weird once you step in but not extremly hard to learn again. The game is still fun (depending on what you enjoy doing.)

I still have fun doing what I do best (role play). If you need help with anything, feel free to contact me on ICQ (203911891) or MSN (dell-j@hotmail.com) and I'll answer any questions you might have or thoughts about things. I play on the Europa shard and play in GMT +1.

If  you quit just before T2A then it is a whole new game for you.

Most likely your characters are gone.  I do not recall the exact time that they did a character wipe, but it was done one time.

The new player quests are quite helpful.  It has made it easier to start a new character.  Although the complete new player experience (all the quests and hints) have not been put in yet.  They are working on it.

If your in the States and you still want to try the game try your local wal-mart, for the 9th anniversary edition.  It will give you access to all lands since you quit.  Just ignore the special offers on the box (ie the pre-order specials as these have been turned off) but since you will be starting a new account your going to get I think 30 days free (you will have to give them some type of payment info cause if you forget to unsubscribe by that 31st day  they gonna charge you for the next month).  Or if wal-mart is not carrying it anymore try amazon or ebgames, I know you can order right off the net to your door.  Cause I was just checking (as of 5-23) if either of those sites have release dates for the new expansion, and both popped up with the 9th anniversary edition still being available.

It also depneds on what you enjoyed when you played before.  If you played just a pvper/pker then you might not want to come back in.

If you were into crafting or monster fighting, roleplaying, community stuff, it is still here.  Some parts have gotten better, some parts have gotten worse.  Me, I just gone with the flow since 1998.  Was it better back in the day? Yes but I think that it was because there were more people and I had more time to play.  I still have fun today, if I did not, I would not have given EAMythic my money all these years.

Yep, you won't recognize the game. UO is trying to replicate other success from games, such as the artifacts which are similar to D2's "Uniques", along with no longer have a fear of dying since you can insure all your stuff. Stealing no longer working properly, and all around pretty much worthless.

Powerscrolls making characters able to get up to 120 skill naturally with other modifiers from items boosting other stuff just as high.

It was a once proud game that didn't require items to one of the most item dependent games on the market.

Well...since you last played.  They have removed anything great about the game.  They have redone the combat system.  They have practically turned it into a player run server that you pay for.  They have stolen a lot of content from the free shards.  If you want a taste of what its like... Install the client and check out UO Gateway.  Origin does have  a lot of new content, but with the direction they are going...  The items will have to keep getting better and better...they have killed player crafting because of the drops.  I was a dedicated 5 yr vet...  LBR was the start of this games downfall.  Elves?!  Seriously...elves?
