    LOL

    Try silkroad.

Its L2 with a "scarf" system.

Buy a certain colors scarf, kill others with different color scarfs.

I would advice playing guild wars. But the real fun and good pvp is pretty hardcore.

I'm in a similar situation as the original poster.  Wow has lost much of its luster.  It has a great backstory and solid foundation, but  I'm looking something with an edge as far as pvp is concerned.  I'm sure most of you are atleast familar with the game shadow bane.  SB had some really cool ideas for massive pvp(too bad the game has so many other faults).  Player build cities that can be razed to the ground.  I'm looking for a game that has more player driven content and consequense for dieing in pvp(in many mmos someone kills you. Oh boy you run to your corpse).  When there are some consequenses like loss of currency or items it adds an element of danger to the game.  I'm getting sick of these carebear MMOs  or ones that hide pvp in small corners of their game.  I'm at a loss right now there just doesn't seem to be much out there.  EVE seems appealing for its cut throat capitalism, stab your buddy in the back to get ahead style of game play, but i'm not sure.  If anyone has any ideas I'd gladly like to hear them.

AOC....may be for you (Oct) ...   Darkfall... if it ever came out really sounds like its for you.... Lineage 3..... a ways away I'm afraid.... perhaps WAR next year.....

Thanks Kyleran.  I've been tracking AoC and War, but I hadn't really read much on Darkfall up until this point.  So I did a little research and it looks to be really interesting even if it is a ways from release.  I'll keep an eye on it as it develops.  Thanks again.

For a free game that has overall good quality try rappelz. Its basically L2 f2p (though somewhat different) but its worth a shot.

Something more standard, id suppose you can try guildwars, or DAoC

For somethign unorthodox try EvE or Auto Assault. Both of them are pretty good though as ie said very unorthodox. OFC thats what makes these 2 games fun.

Atm i am waiting for AoC, thats game spells the kind of pvp ive been waiting for. For the reconrd iplayed L2 for 2 yrs so pvp is my kind of thing.

If you want to wait till you have grandchildren theres darkfall and a bit sooner L2/AION. (see the trend of sweet NCSOFT games? those punks know how to satisfy my pvp needs, though while doing so i have to suffer the pain and horror of wasting away my days in front of the PC lol)

    Anyway hope that helps.

I would definately advise you not to play rappelz... If you like 1v1 pvp in an arena then go ahead, but the siege events are completely rigged. The rules for sieges state that your guild has to kill two extremely high level bosses in a time attack mode. The guild with the lowest time gets to attempt to siege the holding guild's dungeon..... but the game has a huge flaw.. the largest and most powerful guilds hold the dungeon and make a fake guild with thier strongest players and beat the bosses at an insane time(and all return to thier guild except 1 dummy character), so that no other guild can attempt to even take a dungeon.... but if you dont mind a completely rigged gvg system, be my guest.... just my two cents... as for a good pvp mmo.... gl man, there are very few games that have decent pvp...

Shadowbane had definite potential as a PVP game, but the community is abysmal and really drags it down.

RYL is alright, but nothing uber or anything. I'd suggest giving it a try.

I'd say Lineage 2 but then again you have played it allready

WoW is kinda broken when it comes to pvp.

SWG - Once it used to hold good pvp potential but kinda dead now.

CoH / CoV - You can't pvp from the start you need a certain lvl before you can enter any pvp really ( lvl 15 i think it was ) , but when it comes to that point the game is sweet, ofc some classes is more powerfull than others, f.x a Necro that chews up pretty much anything in L2 and here its a Corrupter with Fire/Radiation spec.

Other than that im kinda out of solutions since im waiting for Warhammer , AoC , Darkfall my self.

Unfortunatly, you might have to do what some of us are doing. Just playing random crap MMORPG's until Warhammer. I re-activated my CoH/CoV just until I get word on WH. As of right now, that game should make any PvP fanatics' pants wet.

as far as PvP and MMOs go....umm...Guild Wars has alright PvP...it's all done in arenas, on randomly chosen teams...not my style...EvE is alright, too...that game's just not my style though...Rappelz...i wouldn't play it like one of the others said...yeah, SHadowbane had amazing PvP abilities but the bugs were too much (eg monsters warped to different sides of you and made hunting difficult... :P)...WoW has lost its interest in PvP imo, but Blizz was never really big on it in the first place :P...I haven't really looked into Anarchy, so i couldn't tell ya...Meridian 59 had pretty good PvP but the game's, as some would call "outdated", the world's small, you have a penalty of losing everything when you die (no matter how death happens) and you have 1 chance to go find your stuff before someone else gets it...basically what you wanted, just older...also, PvP might be hard cuz everyone else has been there a while...despite having no lvls...overall...stay AWAY...Planetside has good PvP if you're into the Sci-fi mmo type with guns instead of swords...but to get to the point, until the upcoming, all hyped-up mmos come out, i'd go with a light game, such as GunZ, Gunbound or Rakion to pass time (i'm addicted to GunZ, lol, i got it 2 days ago and already played for like 10 hrs...just not through Xfire :P) I'm waitin too, as i enjoy PvP much more than RPing

Welcome to the club!  If a developer could release a good pvp mmo right now they would stand to make a lot of money. There are a lot of us sitting around waiting for the next mmo saviour to come out.
  • Silkroad Online.   Check it Out

    Darkfall would be the game......

But.... no idea when it will be released.... in the meantime, AOC/WAR are two best hoped for titles.....and AOC should be released this year....

once again, just to make sure, a good idea would be to find high-rated non-mmo online games such as GunZ, Gunbound, Rakion, Soldier Front or even play multiplayer on old games like Star Wars Battlefront, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale (awesome but hard) or go to http://www.digipen.edu/ yes, i know they're student games but some are good AND have multiplayer...

last but not least, if you're absolutely desperate, just play World War II Online, it has awesome PvP (only players are real people :P) and is widely considered an MMO

guys seriously, MMORPGs aren't the only good games out there...i've held off on crazy fanboyism by playing some of the games stated above...try it...that or go see a movie, maybe...

I know this game has been out for a while now, but why not try Ghost Online? It's a 2D platformer MMO like maple story, but much more fast paced. It also introduces the most fun PvP I've ever seen. Then there's tons of quests, partying, guilds, team and guild PvP, and all that other fun stuff. Plus this game relies on teamwork because partying get's you more exp, kind of like in Trickster.

If you're interested and want to check it out here's the link. I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

I've played many games, and the ones that I play change weekly. Currently I am very interested in Gunbound, Poker, and Kwon Ho once more. I am thinking of returning to Maple Story and Ghost Online.

    From Darkfall Online Dev Journal

"We've specified that our internal target date is this summer and we can't get more specific yet, but we will when we're ready to make an announcement. We have recent negative examples of games with good potential being rushed out having been improperly tested and we don't want that for Darkfall. "

We can only hope I guess not getting my hopes up too much but still you never know.
