New Graphic card for my Dell

GodliestGodliest Member Posts: 3,486

It's my birthday soon and I need to something that I want to have. One of the things I want is a new graphic card however, my parents are no pros at graphic cards and neither am I. I simply gave up with trying to figure out the difference or what's better.

I got a Dell 9150 with a Radeon X600 Series. Directly copied from DxDiag.txt:

Machine name: DIMENSION9150
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.061219-0316)
Language: Swedish (Regional Setting: Swedish)
System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
System Model: Dell DXP051
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A02
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)

Card name: RADEON X600 Series
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: RADEON X600 (0x5B62)
DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
Device Key: EnumPCIVEN_1002&DEV_5B62&SUBSYS_06021002&REV_00
Display Memory: 256.0 MB
Current Mode: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (60Hz)

I'm looking for a new graphic card. I'm not sure of price yet, but I suppose my parents could lay down some money, after my grades in school... Would be nice if you could suggest some different cards in different price classes. All help appreciated, thanks in advance.

    Hi,

The problem with Dell PC's is they can be rigged or made in way that forces you to buy upgrades from themselves. From what I can see from this system it has a PCI-Express slot you could fit a graphic card into, however some Dell motherboards are a back to front and a conventional PCI graphic card won't fit. I would recommend checking before you purchase. With the power supply you have I would most likely go for a X1650 for around $80 - $100 depending on model,

I recommend you get a 7600gt, very light on power. I got an emachine last year (known for their crappy power supplies) and the card runs like a dream. Look one up on newegg, you can probably get one for under $100.

I would go for sumthing light cuz not sure if your power supply can support some high end graphics cards.
