My favorite tuff female character would be Uma Therman from Kill BIll.  The only thing I think is unrealistic about these movies is that the women that play the parts are usually models.  They are very skinny/small and don't really portray a tuff woman in reality.  On the otherhand I don't really care as there are guys like Jackie Chan that I've always loved to watch and I know he can't really take on all these people at once.  These are fantasy movies after all.

Perhaps it's just more apparent because it feels like a recent invention. Back in the day women were all bystanders or damsels in distress.

I get so irritated because it's the same character, the same personality, the same motivation, all the time. We've done this femme fetale thing since Xena, it's time to find a new motivation. Women can lust after power, can be greedy for gold, can be diehard professionals, can be hardbitten cop types, but we never see these in films, at least not very often.

On that note, I liked Jack Sparrow way better in the first movie. He was certifiably nuts, we need more complete nut jobs. He seems to have gotten saner, and thus less interesting over the trilogy. He's still wacky and bizarre, but not so completely psychotic.

That is true.  I'm very tired of the damsil in distress myself.  I've seen it in movies all my life and it's a lot more common then the recent trend of woman who can fight.

As for Jack I didn't notice a lot of differnce.  I've always been a Johnny Depp fan and I think he is very good in both movies.  Orlando Bloom has only been good in one movie in his career and that is Kingdom of Heaven IMO.  He was improved over the first movie though.  Kerra has been to sissy in these movies.  They should have made her character a little tuffer and more speratic from the start.  Thats one of the reasons I didn't enjoy the first movie much.  Kerra's and Orlando's characters were so very sterotypical.  Jacks was sorta sterotypical of the rogueish womaniser that has a good streak, but it was still better then the other two.

exactly...Kierra Knightly in a fight? HAH

Throw in Laila (sp?) Ali and maybe you'll have a believable character.  I'm not suggesting that all female actresses be relegated to meak and mild roles...but at least make the characters believable.  Sorry I just don't buy Kierra Knightly as a pirate of any type.  Jack is excusable because the character is so damn quirky, but I just can't get into her character.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

It was a mafia movie targeted towards the male demographic that wanted to be the bad mafia guy.

one is a very fun flick that is enjoyable to watch. One is a flick that just copied rumors and tall tales from the mafia world and got praise. We all know deep down that 90% of guys want to be the tough guy. They would not target that demographic if it was not true.

How was it along the lines of Scarface, when the first Godfather movie came out in 1972, and Scarface came out eleven years later.

Godfather trilogy is way more profound then the single Scarface film.

QFT scarface is a shit action movie. Godfather was a great drama. The kung fu of your theories is severly weak.

I was a bit let down by the third, didn't like the ending much.  I think the only bit i actually did like was the final battle at sea scene which lasted a decent amount of time.

And that monkey cracks me up, he should have his own spin off.
