Let's talk about some roleplay ideas. People always say that MMORPGs aren't RPGs in the true sense of the word, but does that HAVE to be the case? Take D&D, the quintessential pen-and-paper RPG.All it really gives you are a set of rules to resolve conflicts, mostly combative ones. An MMORPG is the same really. They create a world and a set of rules that determine the success or failure of combat actions, and leave the rest to the players.

What are some roleplaying storylines that could work in an MMORPG environment, specifically in City of Heroes? Arguments between team members create their own sort of drama, and are common enough. When PvP comes along, can a hero turn villainous and become his old teammates' arch foe?

I admit, I'm kind of at a loss myself, but I thought some experienced DMs and roleplayers might have some ideas they'd be willing to share.

    Well, our supergroup is going evil...all of them and right now we have over 40 members under the control of our glorious master, ...well, the name cannot be spoken here.

    Well, what I would really like to see is some disputed territory in the game, so that different villain groups could fight for it, and also the supergroups could fight to free it.   That could make for some great RP with the different personality conflicts (as long as everyone remembered it was a game....)  Other people have mentioned various supergroups taking on villain groups as nemeses which could be fun too.

    My main character at the moment is going evil once it is allowed (there is no final word on whether that is possible but the current rumour is that there will be some sort of turn evil quest/storyline) and I am already playing her as a girl with her own agenda fighting within the system while it suits her.

    There is a great scope for RP just in your character at the moment, but I hope the villain expansion will let alot more people embrace it.

    Villains if implemented right, with a great pvp system, Would be the ultimate high end game. Personally though, not trying to sound negative, The option to play a villain should have shipped at the first. I read somewhere its going to be shipped around November, thats kinda far off.

    Anyone on Liberty doing any roleplaying?

    I'm not heavy into the creation of storylines and such, but I like to stay in character at least. I'd like to group with some other players who feel the same way.

    ...though I wouldn't mind participating in storylines. I never was a very good DM. ::::35::
