Asheron's Call was my first MMORPG. I was for most of my time a carebear playing on Thistledown - I later switched to Darktide before quitting at about the 60th level. I know this might not seem like a great feat by todays standards but back then Paragod was the most feared player. The average players were at my level. I never considered myself a PVP type of player until I ruined myself on Darktide - for the better.
I used to get so frustrated to the point of screaming in my room - I only now realize how valuable that was. I played WoW for some 2 years and at first I may have attained the same high from PVP. With the introduction of Battlegrounds however that was all killed. The fun of being a "known" badass in Yanshi was gone. The fun of looting corpses, being able to get 50K robes as death items; gone. The way you could as a melee class take on multiple magic casters if you knew how to move. That constant danger when you ran in to strike knowing at any moment you could be blasted with a huge blast of acid if you weren't quick to get out. I like the sort of PVP where it's your skill that depends on the outcome - not how many hours you have invested into farming Molten Core loot. Ah the memories!
I don't believe that just because AC was my first MMORPG that I will never attain that level of satisfaction; I believe no game has achieved the same level of balance between questing and PVP. This is why I remain dissatisfied. I haven't read a whole lot on the upcoming games, but are there any on the horizon which could potentially match AC in these categories; vaporware titles do not count!

I am playing daoc now but ia also enjoyed AC's system mainly because i have a background in muds and AC's system is much more like theirs.
