To the OP. WoW doesnt appear on this site because the people who frequent this site and vote on the rankings dont think its good enough.
The reasons are many and vary from person to person, for myself the main problem is the low res graphics engine and art that makes me think the 90s have returned and they threw up all over my monitor. I suspect, however, that given the type of MMO player who visits this site is more focused on the rapid change from casual solo fast leveling to an endgame of grinding and raiding. There is also a large and growing contingent who feel TBC destroyed the games raid content.
If you are seeking validation of your opinions on which games are good and which games are no I suggest you stick to Blizzard or WoW fan site fan sites they will probably provide you with opinions that are of more use to you. If you want diverse opinions from veterans of multiple MMOs then the rankings on this site are worth paying attention to. Contrary to what some validation hungry fanbois will try and tell you there are valid reasons why the games are ranked the way they are, they may not turn out to be reasons that are important to you, but you will never find out if you buy into the standard fanboi self deception that its simply because people hate WoW because its successful
So how is it that CoV and guild wars are better games than WoW according the the users of this site? You do realize, that the difference between the number 2 game and WOW is less than 2/10ths of a % point? I'm more amazed that 18 games or so rate between 8.0 and 8.2.
Granted WoW is full of kids and morons who are annoying as heck, it really is the best mmo out there. Best is such a subjective unit of measure. Best at what? FFA PVP? Certainly not. Best graphics? Hardly. Best character customization? Nonsense. WOW is basically "pretty good" across a lot of areas, which makes it a fun game. It certainly is the number one seller ....so it wins that category.....
Cov is better then WoW maybe during character creation and the first 2 missions *maybe*. As I mentioned, the spread is about 1/10th of a point between them..nothing to get strung out about. WOW's big negative for many people is the end game....its what eventually drove me away from the game, and many of the people on these forums are like me in their thinking. (although for entirely different reasons in many cases)
Guild Wars may be a free game, but that doesn't make a game good. No, but is sure helps for those with a tight budget, and it is a revolutionary idea....an MMO w/o monthly fees. What makes it good is its balanced PVP system, lack of hard core grinding and a few other nice features.
WoW has depth and is just plain fun, furthermore it is the most played mmo. I agree, WOW was quite fun...until I grew tired of it, especially the long hours I spent in end game raiding, which ended up to really serve no useful purpose with the expansion. And I agree...it is the most played MMO..... Lineage 1 and 2 are also very highly played MMO's...does that make the numbers 2 and 3? Most played is only one category of the term "best"...though I do think most developers want to win this title more than any other.
So is it that people are ashamed that they enjoy this much flamed game, and thus vote it down? No, of course not. They genuinely hate it. Or is there something deeper Im missing? Yes, you are missing something major.
That is...why in the world do you care? Do you work for Blizzard? What does it matter how WOW is rated on this or any other forum? You're right, Blizzard doesn't care.... they laugh all the way to the bank every day. But their reaction is completely understandable.....
The real question is...why does it bother you so much? These games don't need you to defend them...they speak for themselves.....

In fact you cant just sign up for this site and vote, you need to meet some requirements first. While there can still be people putting in the time on different accounts in order to vote multiple times you will end up with about the same percentage doing it for each game which means the final results are the same.
When I look back to my WoW days I look back with joy. Played a bit too much in that time but nothing serious.
For me WoW is a great game. Not 'OMG! I want to play it!' but more 'I played it and have to say it was good'. I don't play it anymore, why? It was done. I didn't enjoy raiding or end-game PvP so I quit. As simple as that. I didn't whine on forums and continued playing even though I didn't enjoy it anymore.
That's why IMHO WoW is so low on the list. Lots of people kept playing it even though they no longer liked it. Don't ask my why they did that. All I know is that they did.
And ofcourse you'll hate WoW after that. If you spent hours upon hours devouring the greatest candies ever you'll get sick. If you continue after that you'll undoubtly claim those candies sucked.
For me WoW is done. While I played it it was a huge amount of fun. Now it's no longer fun so I don't play it anymore. Very simple.

I like how previous posts states that ppl who dislike certain games shouldnt post and should take a look in the mirror and change themselves. Unfortunately this person must not relize that they are in a forum where ppl express their opinions... I expressed my opinion about WoW and ppl like Martie try to insult me with my lack of experience with other games, well Im basing my comments on the experiences I have off WoW, and have not STATED that WoW is the all time crap MMO game, only my view of what I think they are trying to do for gamers. I also wanted ppl like Martie to explain what THEY see in WoW from THEIR experience, not throwing back insults and stating how many ppl play the game, I could care less if 5 or 5 billion ppl play I WANT YOUR VIEW!!!

Wow lots of posts while i was at work today lol! Hey I wasnt trying to stir anything up, I was just asking how a game that owns 60% of the market is rated lower then other games, even if it is only a percentage. Obviously people who are playing the game are not voting or rating it down. Dont get me wrong Im not saying WoW is the game to end all games or that its perfect in anyway, Im just saying its the best right now (i know this is an opinion blah blah when you say crap about wow and how some other game is superior it not an opinion blah blah). Oh and for the guy saying stuff about not comparing GW and WoW: why not they are both mmorpgs and are rated in the same categories on this site. So what does GW get like a handicap for being a gimp game or something? And the multiple people saying "i vote wow down/quit/whatever because the end game is boring": all mmorpgs are like that, end game always comes to farming, except coh, which just becomes nothing at end game lol. WoW has more subscribers because of advertising and timing. It was released at a good time for an MMO. When WoW was released it attracted players from the old UO, EQ, and the disenchanted SWG players with no better game to go to.
There are lots of better games than WoW now. WoW just has more subscribers who got addicted and won't quit because they don't want to let go of their uber characters.
An enormous player base does not equal a great game. In fact, sometimes it is a detractor, as the OP indicates (immature gamers, saturation of max-level players, etc.)

(On a side note, I think having a 'skill decay' like the old UO days would make the game better. If you don't use an ability for a long time, your skill in that ability will decrease. This would put an emphasis on, and empower active players over 'veteran' players.)
