An MMO that is Healthy for the body

LiddokunLiddokun Member UncommonPosts: 1,665

I am thinking how come nobody has ever made an MMO yet that is actually healthy for you if you play it. I mean I love playing mmo games and for the past 12 years or so I have played several dozens of games big and small. However one thing in common with MMO is that they require that you plant your ass in front of the computer for several hours every day and these all adds up to a bad bad habit. I think an MMO that requires you to exercise (via motion sensors) or at least move your ass/body would be great... it would keep America in shape and lowers the risk of obesity in american society.

Actually there are little exorcise bike type things that you can hook up to your computer and use them instead of the arrow or WASD keys.

I do cardio, stretches, a set here-and-there while playing.

I jog and swim (I have a pool, luckily) as well.

    I like your concept, though.

While it's a laudable idea, the reason no one has done it is the cost and the convienience. Having some kind of sensor suite would be an expensive start up cost as well as something that would be a security vulnerability for hackers. Plus, do you want to lug around a sensor suite if you are going to a friends house or staying in a hotel?

Sadly, I think this idea is a long way in coming.

the Wii mote is compatiable with IR devices on computers.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

most gamers dont like to work out or do anything other than game.  sucks but sometimes you just need to break a day or two at least for an hour each to do some sort of activity

I mean honestly, if there was a 'dance-dance- revolution MMO' would you play it?

Yes!  Locked up in a room all by myself, of course.  I couldn't handle the mocking.

Maybe you can convince nintendo to make a legend of zelda MMO for the nintendo wii.

Hmm, not true, been snowboarding and mountain biking and hiking my entire life, and I am also a dedicated mmo player.

I think I've known like one fat MMO player in my life, the rest are pretty skinny.

I used to be really skinny like 4 years ago and run marathons like weekly, tennis, football etc. Now since MMORPG's took me over, I have put on a little extra weight, bearly noticeable... I have known people to totally mess up their life with it though, fat, spots, never washing etc...From being really skinny my old housemate put on like 5 stone and got really bad spots.

I still play football every 1/2 days but if I didn't do that, I think I would be huge lol because when I'm not working or sleeping I'm on an MMORPG.

    Your right RayxOr.

Diet alone only counts for calories coming in.  Activity is mostly responsible for calories being expended.  You can have a bad diet, and eat tonnes of food and maintain a normal weight, you just need to work like a horse (and the work would be hard with bad food but could still be done).  So you can have a bad diet and not be obese.  But you can't really have a good diet and be obese, unless you are currently trying to lose weight, because a good diet not only deals with nutrients but total caloric intake as well (in most cases, there are some medical syndromes that significantly alter metabolism, but that doesn't hold up well either, slower metabolism means eat less).

So really caloric balance is both food and activity, calories in and calories out.  Not just diet.

    Venge Sunsoar

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

There is a big difference between healthy and skinny. I would rather have a healthy body rather than a skinny body.

Be cool to people, and try and stay cool that way you never have to regret making someone feel bad. Don't take what ya got granted because some people never get to feel happy. We get to play these great MMOs and surf a good site. Be thankful for what ya got and next time ya feel down imagine a fat sea otter waddling with a pillow and a night cap. Bam! smiles!

Dance Online <-- There's your answer.

EDIT: I play with the Red Octane Ignition Pad's they mention on their site. Great pads, just pricey. But I play PS2 DDR with them as well.

I think motions sensors (wii nunchucks, sixaxis, eye toy) will be the future for gaming where you use your full body to play instead with just your hands and fingers. If i were to develop an MMO (if I have 100 million dollars) it would incorporate motion sensing devices to it and you move your game avatar around using your whole body (traditional controllers are of course available too) using game devices like Wii's nunchucks.

Well then don't plant your arse in front of the game so long.   You can be a gamer and still get out and do things on a regular basis.  I make it a point to ride my bike or go for a jog atleast 5 times a week - rest on the wekends.   Add that to good eating habits (lots of fruits, berries, nuts and veggies and a wee bit of meat now and then) and you'll stay thin.

This topic makes me sad. I've actually GAINED weight since I stopped playing MMORPGs so much. Note to Myself: Food is not entertainment.

I can't stand being indoors when the weather is warm and I can't sit still for too long either, so the last few weeks, I've been going to the park to play basketball with my kids, so there's still hope for me. I just need to find something to do in cold or rainy weather and at night that doesn't involve chocolate, red meat, or tequila.

Nah... You just need to understand that chocolate, red meat, and tequila are only accessories to sex. hehehe. Lots of sex, big orgasms... the huge caloric intake from the liquor and chocolate won't mean squat. ;)

Seriously though... For me, the problem isn't that I don't want to exercise... Its that when I do have time to game I EITHER have time to game or work out... And just to put that in perspective, I haven't been to the gym in 5 weeks, but I also haven't had time to play my game(s) of choice either... When I can, I do both... When I can't... well...

In the winter or on a rainy day  jump rope; it's a great way to build cardio/burn calories. Also, for anyone who doesn't like to exercise for a long period of time but wants a good challenge try out crossfit at Crossfit.com
