Well as many of you know or might not know,Pirates Of The Burning Sea is based on 1700's Caribbean..You can choose to a few things as well as 3 factions...This is a breed of MMO genre that i think the MMORPG community will welcome with open arms..But will it succeed? Well nobody knows that, but it's fun to speculate..I think it will do great being that the company is self-funded no need to push out an un-finished game out the door like many MMO's have been (not going to mention)....Do you like the idea of this MMO and do you think it will succeed? post you're opinion i'd like to hear it..Also use the poll

But I’m defiantly going to try it, how well it will do, I have no idea.
I does look like it might have some potential but I honestly stopped paying any attention to the game when I read that all ships were going to be single person control and you really couldn't have a live crew playing and living on the same ship. Right up to the point I was way into it but after I just lost all interest.
If I want and almost single player pirate game there's lots of good choices out there.
Otherwise, I hope for those waiting for the game and looking forward to it that it works out for them, there's lots of good people working on the project and they deserve a success.

It seems to be a different flavor of MMO and it looks interesting. I hope it's fun and it succeeds but is there even a solid release date? Last I heard it was coming out this month. Would a summer release be a good idea? I don't know but the next MMO I will probbaly try is Warhammer or AoC.
But I think PotBS is going to be great! I've been following it for 4 years now, and they are finally rolling close to the release. Two of the things I found to be unique about the PotBS development is, firstly, during the development they actually ADDED more features and EXPANDED their plans for the game, unlike most mmorpgs that usually start off praising themselves for being something amazing then remove a bunch of features so they can push the game into release sooner. Secondly, the developers have communicated their triumphs, their failures, and what they had for lunch better than any mmo developer I've seen so far. They post constantly on the PotBS forums, and this may be part of the cause for the PotBS forums being so mature compared to most mmorpgs. Thirdly, they allow players to submit their own flag and sail design, and even their own ships if they know how to do 3D modeling. PotBS already has 40 ships submitted by players, with a total of 60 or so ships, and the game hasnt even released yet.

I agree with Wormywyrm on all points. I am very impressed with the amount of communication and interaction by the devs. Im eager to raise sails!
I am probably going to try it, hopefully I can get into beta first, but there are a couple of things that already piss me off.
1. They are going to have some limited porting of your character between ships that you own, so if you have a ship docked on one side of the Caribbean and another docked on the other side, you can just port over. This is obviously a dummy down shortcut for the instant gratification type player and has no business in a sailing game based in the 1600-1800 Caribbean.
2. Like many newer games they will have unrealistic immersion killing dummy down shortcut inspired icons floating over quest NPC heads. I really wish developers would abandon this gimmick that WoW popularized and go back to a key word response system that EQ1 utilized. The key word system is realsitic and based on game knowledge and investigation which makes it fun. Floating icons is just plain stupid and insults the intelligence of any veteran gamer.
Personally I would not play PotBS if the ships were multi controlled. I like to solo.
Yeah, it sounds worse than trying to find a regular type group depending on how efficient it would be to run a ship solo or with a smaller crew. That also brings up the whole notion about wether a crew is more powerful than a solo controlled ship. I think it's something that would alienate soloers and soloers are the largest segment of the MMOG market. As long as they realize they may be limiting their subscriber numbers then more power to them. Just don't lie and try and market the game for everyone under those conditions.
This game is going to be pay to play, all decent mmos are pay to play theres no way they can afford the servers and reguler updates with a buy the game and its free for here on out scheme.
the only reason guild wars can is 1 they release a expansion pack at least once a year, and 2 they have multiple pay to play mmos already generating alot of revenue.
The whole 'why cant other players be my crew members' thing has been covered time and time again, with the same results. There are two options for multiple player ships... Either you give the players mini games to play that have nothing to do with the actual ship to ship combat, a la puzzle pirates, or you make the game a first person shooter so that gunners can actually aim at enemy ships and fire, like in planetside. Otherwise the crew members who arent the captain have absolutely nothing to do.
Dont worry though, you will still be able to group with other players, you will sail the sea in great fleets, leading into epic multiple ship battles.
Heres some threads going into more detail on why having players aboard your ship wont work:

nah, enough to do in cities, too.
What amazes me in this game, is less the things a todays mmo should have, like player-driven economy, nice pvp (fights last 10+ minutes?) etc.
It´s gimmicks like a "spawn-manager", that sound like it will be a well thought game.
I hope, it won´t end up like Roma Victor.
PS: PotBS is not PotC
In all other mmorpgs all you do is stand around on land all day, but in PotBS you can stand around on land OR stand around on a ship! I mean the possibilities!

Been waiting and waiting to play. I'm a fan of the concept, the design, and the company.
That said, I worry GREATLY that a delay into AoC's marketing wake will cause the amount of subs to start, and stay, average.
