We were talking about this over in Open Beta part of the forum.

If you had passable dxdiag you could get in.  You have to tamper with some other files too, though.

I tried a while back, someone had given me a pass to the game since they didn't meet min.  Problem was, since I didn't have a legit dxdiag to switch some of the values up; I couldn't get in either.  I even opened the launcher in hex editor to see what values were required to pass the test.  Problem is there is more than one place in dxdiag that needs fixing, plus you have to have the return strings to the launcher exactly right.

The only thing of mine that wouldn't pass was the CPU, which is a AMD 64 3000+.  I do have it OC'd to around 3500+, but dxdiag has real CPU name(so it doesn't matter if it is OC'd).  It will still say it is AMD 3000+, but under the performance and frequency it will be different(which shows it is OC'd).

If someone would post a compatible dxdiag then it wouldn't be hard to pick and choose what you needed out of it to pass the compatibility test.   Just remember if you do this, you have to mess around with a couple other files too.  Pretty much the way the launcher works is first time you run it, it checks to see if you have a file.  If that file is there and you pass the test and your dxdiag is legit then it lets you in.  Otherwise you are screwed.

Talking about this will probably make them change the way the patcher detects your hardware though.  So if anyone who does have a rip of the correct files may end up getting screwed in the future(so I might better quit talking about it).

    ***Edited***

It would have been nice if they went by the performance benchmark in the dxdiag instead of singling out processors.  It would have also been easier for them to code.  On the other hand, it would have been easier for someone to hack the dxdiag and other files to make it work.  The thing that really sucks about the whole thing is if you have a CPU that beats their min but is AMD based, you are out of luck.  The way it was setup last time I checked, you had to have an FX based AMD chip.

    ***Edited #2***

Hmm, guess I was wrong on the performance thing being easier.  Looks as if dxdiag doesn't actually save that in the log file.  Guess I was thinking of SiSoft Sandra having the performance rating.  They could still have it rip the clocked frequency at the end of the CPU value returned along with the real CPU name.  That way they would have a better idea of the performance of the CPU.

    ***Edit 3***

Heh, another one.  Actually when I went back and checked the folder there is a file that tells the performance of the CPU.  You can check the hwLog.log file.  It gives true performance rating under "Performance Frequency"(which mine is :   3.57955e+006, so around 3.5GHz).

Yea, I was kind of worried about that from the gameplay videos.  Looked like it is auto-target or some kind of hybrid of it.  Would be much nicer if you had to aim.

I couldn't tell much about the melee types, didn't know if they could block and so forth(active blocking).

It's not worth tampering with anything.  I would just uninstall and forget this piece of junk game.

yea, the fact that they are restricting it to specific videos cards and processors just shows how much work they have left to do in this game.  Otherwise, why woulld there be restrictions.  Worst case scenario for a unworthly computer would be that the user just uninstalls the game after trying the gameplay but atleast they would get to try it.  This is bogus.

How do you gain access to the open beta forums?

I tried using my account name and password used to log into the game and that doesn't work. Also tried the beta signup thing on the website a few days ago and never got anything back.

From these very forums a while back, regarding the single biggest joke flop in the history of online gaming:

Also, as other people have mentioned, we've held back on releasing a lot of information that I think will really make Vanguard stand out and truly be a third generation game.  But the time for holding back, now that EQ 2 and WoW are out and people have played them both quite a bit, is coming to an end.  Look for a LOT of information about Vanguard to come out at E3 and around the E3 period, both on the official site and on major games oriented web pages and in print magazines.  I think many of you, if you're not already excited about the game, will become extremely excited once the floodgates are open.

    Yup. heard it all before.

K, so you are comparing an alpha version to Vanguard which was in retail as a buggy beta?

No, I'm comparing it to every other overhyped and half-baked game out there ;) Every time a game comes out, there's a battalion of people screaming about how great it's going to be. And I would be amazed if Fury ends up anything other than ridiculous from my experience so far.

I had fun in Fury. You didn't have fun in Fury. I think they usually refer to that as an "opinion". Just so you know -- hype generally doesn't affect how popular the game actually is when it is out of alpha. Case in point: people said WoW would be awful because of the hype, and it's currently the most played MMO. (disclaimer: not an opinion in any direction toward WoW)

That being said, I hate fanboys. I just happen to hate both sides of the fence -- that's why I'm on it. You should join me, it's comfy.

What part of "alpha" dont ppl get about a beta? Havent you guys ever been in a beta before?

Alpha to release things change so drastically some might even say its not even the same game, from performance to requirements and even UI might get a complete overhaul. At least on most games i beta tested on the early stages of beta have been like that.

P.S. Please respect the NDA guys.

Awesome Game to beat the boredom blues at work
