Dead is a relative term. If there were no expectations, and the "game" wasn't hyped beyond all reason by not just the fans but th edimwits making it...it wouldn't be described as dead. But, after spending millions, bragging about how great it was, and general stuff like this:

A lot of people who have researched and looked into the features and aspects of Vanguard will know that it will be one of the best MMORPGs out there for its genre, the amount of content is unbelievably large. What i want to know is if you all really think this game will get up there with WoW, EQ2 and the other top games. Personally i hope the success of Vanguard never stops until it is #1.

honestly it will probably surpass either of the games mentioned in quality but it is hard to see any game in the near future surpassing the "popularity" of WoW

i agree with the above two posters combined, vanguard should easily surpass eq2 and beat it into submission.

im guessing VG will have around 300k-400k subs to start..

Bet it has more like a quarter million (or more) at release.

I think Vanguard will be an elixir for the entire genre and capture a very large audience. Topping WoW? I say yes! And just remember, if I had told you WoW would have 4 million subscribers worldwide before it launched you would have called me crazy too!

If in fact this game has no problems and runs smoothly with all the features its presenting, it'll shoot straight to the top in no time.

If it doesn't surpass EQ2 I'll be amazed...

Vanguard will be a great game and it won't be like wow where all you can do is raid at max lvl

Vanguard Will surely be the best

All I want is a awesome kick ass game, and i know that Sigil is going to bring us that

And so on and so on and so on..... all that drivel is from ONE THREAD here a while back. After hearing this over and over, yes. Vanguard is dead, 30K subs or not. McQuaid suckered everyone, and hard.

VG is mostly dead (Princess Bride) and I dont see anyone in their mind jumping for a chance to give it financial/creative mouth-to-mouth

if the game dies it will not be the end of the world but I am hoping that this game can be saved.  It has potential.  I like the combat system and I like the crafting and the diplomacy systems.  What I do not like:

Rogue is one of the weakest classes, cannot find vendors who will buy your surplus items and the fact that there are not enough players to group.

I will play the game till it dies, I die or they make it better.  I can think of other games that are worse.  If the game does die, my credit card will be thankful.  I am presently playing DDO, LOTR and Vanguard.  I like all three.  I hope Vanguard can get its act together.

Once again a thread about VG dying lol

Well I have played VG since launch. I have seen huge improvements and above all massive potential.  I have not played EVE-Online since VG came out and that is saying something! As long as the dev team keeps adding content and performance improvements it will be fine.  They do need to get rid of about 4-5 servers and merge them with others.  The only problem I have with the game is that I love doing lots of stuff solo but I do need a group for most missions.  At low times its hard to find a group. However this is probably my fault since I am on GMT and I go on a USA server. So I guess its not a VG problem but pretty much mine for being daft!

Even if the dev team add absolutely nothing there is so much content it would take you a good 6 months to get through it all. Unless you are a 24/7 game addict.

Even after Horizons shut it's servers down it's fans did not admit that the game was dead.  Check out this thread  --> http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/97610.  It is great to read and very similar to the VG situation with the exception that SOE will keep at least 1 server up and running to train their new Developers.

Here is an example of the great posts.  Seem familiar to the VG posts?  Yes, it does:

Game dead?  It's hard to say.  It really seemed that when Taluga(sp?) ran it...the game seemed to be coming around.  There seemed to be genuine effort to do new things gamewize.

I always loved Horizons and thought the game had a nice "style" to it.  The community was great in the beginning, but when the servers were merged years ago, it seemed that there was nothing but a lot of fighting and bickering.  Horizons was the first mmo that I ever played and no game has ever matched that feeling of the first few months of playing it.  However, many other games have come along that hold a closer spot in my heart.  It saddens me to see Horizon's suffer like this because I felt the game had real potential but was never really given a chance due to the people running it.  Things seem even more grim now...=*(

The only possible way Vanguard has potential.. is that it would be possible to completely gut the thing and rewrite it.   But it just doesn't make financial sense to do it.   If you're going to put that kind of time and money into something, you might as well just write a new game that doesn't have the horrible reputation that Vanguard has earned.

    I'm not seeing a connection.

Could you explain it for me?

    Wish Darkfall would release.
